I feel like I'm the only one who rates the Buu saga over Cell saga. Cell saga character assassinates everyone, especially Bejita. The final fight of Gohan vs Cell not only didn't have any real weight since Cell and Gohan didn't have any history but also the fight is at all times one sided for Cell and then Gohan until the final beam struggle. Cell saga has a lot of good stuff thematically and pottery-wise, but otherwise has a lot of issues for me.

For max pottery, Gohan probably should have been a part of the endgame of beating Kid Buu. The story opens with Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan each fucking up in their own ways leading to Buu being unleashed. So wrapping it up with all 3 after each works to right their wrongs makes the most sense to me.

One of the coolest nicest most interesting details of Dragon Ball was how everyone was always getting a new outfit, new hairstyle, new look, etc on every arc, every new appearance. Which is actually pretty crazy in hindsight when changing a character design like that is a "risky business" in this industry

A lot of the Buu stuff is pretty out there but it's at the end of the series so it's less a risk and more of a Toriyama not giving a fuck knowing it was probably the end and doing what amused him. Otherwise everything just kind of flows right and makes for a logical progression/escalation. King Piccolo set the blueprint for everything that came after but at the time represented a major escalation of things. It's one thing to fight for sport in tournaments or beat a human army as part of a quest to retrieve the dragon balls (escalation of the original Pilaf stuff). It's another to transition to facing a demon lord for the fate of humanity.
I think the point that I really dropped off was the Cell Tournament.Can't remember the episode but it was when cell and goku were "warming up".Everyone was just standing around watching it pregnantly. The camera slow panned. The wind blew through gokus hair. The wind blew through Vegeta's hair. The wind blew through Tien's hair. And all that happened were fights so fast that the animators couldn't even be bothered to show it. Then the episode was over. I was so mad that I just gave up on the series entirely after that. I realized after what happened during the Frieza fight that it would be another half a year before I got a THRILLING CONCLUSION and I just couldn't do it anymore
