It is stupid but i was always partial to the Treasure Planet idea that you could just breath in space, rather than just believing what I'm told about it being suffocation deep freeze vacuum insta death

when did normies get this idea you magically shed all your heat into a non existing medium

You don't suffocate, all the nitrogen on your blood instantly boils before you have the chance to suffocate.

The only 'people' who say Nu Star Wars was good are jews and trannies and their opinions don't count anyway.

>It is stupid but i was always partial to the Treasure Planet idea that you could just breath in space, rather than just believing what I'm told about it being suffocation deep freeze vacuum insta death
I always assumed there was an airbubble specifically around the ships. Not that space was literally breathable.

Yeah and your eyes pop outta their sockets & head explodes it's all sorta brutal

>>
>>220721513
there was actually a jedi power where they could like hibernate in space that is from the EU books. Luke himself did it. This scene was lame but it was in execution, not idea.
>>
>>220721806
Very funny.
>>
Using the Force on all the individual atoms of air in your body to keep it from explosively decompressing your bodyin vacuum is a 9th level Jedi technique that Leia learned from a video on Space Youtube
>>
>>220721982
>it was in execution, not idea.
When Luke did it he was literally in a ship with atmosphere. He hibernated to slow his breathing to make the oxygen he had last longer.
>>
>>220721513
>we have a woman that died from decades of coke abuse
>we can just kill her off in movie and rewrite so luke, the living actor, survives
>no, we'll cgi her dead body and use her in the next movie too because our propaganda about feminism and force is female matters more than anything else
>>
>>220722295
iirc it forms some kind of cocoon around him after it failed completely and he was in space for months, it didnt just slow oxygen consumption. It has been over 20 years since I read the book so I could be wrong.

Just saying it wasnt some shit round head Rian just pulled out his ass
>>
>>220722364
No, he pulled it completely out of his ass. In the book, he uses it because his ship is heavily damaged and he wants to use as little resources as possible while R2 fixes it. It doesn't do anything to protect him from space.
>>
>>220721513
What's the fucking problem, you realise that it's a space fairy tale with magic and shit? Are you also gonna question why Obi-Wan and Anakin didn't get burned while next to the fucking lava? The force, motherfucker!

The water on/in your skin evaporates due to the lack of pressure, this process still “costs” heat so it leaches heat from your skin, flash freezing it.

Space in Star Wars has never really behaved like space as we know it or played by any of the same rules. Including in the OT.
>let's go out and explore this small asteroid, all we need are little oxygen masks and no other protection
Which is part of why it's not sci-fi and maybe not even space opera either. It's fantasy set in something that *resembles* space

like most of the sequel things, they simply wanted WOW MOMENTS and didn't care to justify them or even think beyond the fart-sniffing-poof

I'm going to say it, this was such a blown opportunity. I liked that Leia survived. it could have included a montage daydream of her "caring for others so much" she willed-herself to survive.

but the "damage" should have been permanent and require her to be in a Darth Vader-esque suit.

where Vader was burned, Leia was frozen. Evil vs Good pottery. it would have "saved" the character literally as the actress passed away. They could have even done a female version of James Earl Jones voice (some modern celeb) in the suit. She could have been so much more IN the next movie

Kylo Ren could be secret-happy his Mom survived but humiliated for what he did to her (yeah it was the other guy who fired, but still, he didn't stop it) the reunion would have been Kylo vs Mom duel topped with "I... honestly you could just have people walk on top of the ship and briefly mention you extended the force field and no one would bat an eye. Heck even star trek fans would tolerate this, but you'd have to be very upfront about it and explain why it makes more sense than a space suit.
>>
>>220721779
My favorite use of it is in picrel. The explanation for the storms instantly freezing things is that they are pulling down air from the top of the atmosphere where it touches space. It would be extremely cold, right?
No, the top layer gets heated by the sun the same as the rest of it

>"NO NOT LIKE THAT!!! YOU'RE ONLY SUPPOSED TO DO, LIKE, THE SAME SIX BORING SUPERPOWERS WITH THE FORCE! Well, technically four, the two really cool ones are evil, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!"

Why are Star Wars fans like this? The Force SHOULD be ridiculous with bullshit abilities that only extremely powerful Force users can pull off.
>>
>>220723283
>okay so a "real" artist would have done a cooler-looking suit.

Anon... AI imagery isn't art. I gen images, too. It's fun, but nothing else. Don't call artists "'real' artists" like AI is art.
>>
>>220723906
I meant it only as an easy clarification.
like when someone says Legos and the other guy is like "um... it's Lego BRICKS, not Legos... gosh!!"

a real person would have the sense to make white-armor-Leia look awesome, but also if you gen's 1000 AI images, the computer might have eventually done an awesome one, too. you still need the real person to pick that 1 out of the 1000 tho, it's a tool. even "picking the image to use" counts as a real-person thing, the machine is technically NOT the artist at any step
>>
>>220721513
>Only connection to the force is empathy in the OT.
>JK she can perform never before seen feats out of the blue now.
>>
>>220721779
It's not "normies". It's braindead directors that have no idea how anything real works and don't give a shit. Such as JJ Abrams literally doesn't understand how space works. He thinks things are up there, they're all right next to each other, you can see everything easily, fly to it in minutes. A laser shooting across the galaxy will get there in a few seconds, spread in mid-air and destroy half a dozen planets easily, then be watched by the entire galaxy in their sky at the same time with the naked eye. That's genuinely what JJ believes. And the things in Last Jedi are genuinely what Rian believes. These are the moronic uneducated babies that get chosen to make billion dollar movies.
>>
I don't really see the problem with this scene.
>>
>>220723823
The force should be a justification for a cool special effect technique or an action scene, nothing more.

>>
>>220724421

It would be boring, otherwise.

The nu wars trilogy honestly serves as a great case study on how not to make movies. Like this specific scene alone is incredible in that sense. Not only did they either "just make shit up" or specifically choose one of the stinkiest pieces of SW "lore" out of a giant pile of books, but they did so while the lead actress had just died and they could have scored massive points by sending her off with style and pathos.

It's a fascinating mix of hybris, incompetence and arrogance rolled into a trilogy that in my opinion is the most accurate representation of modern Hollywood.

The guy should have been able to fly in heavy gravity. Certainly be able to tell his men to turn off the gravity. Or have some droids rescue him. Or not have a shaft to the reactor in his throne room. Leia is way smarter and more powerful than Sheev.

Maybe Star Wars as a fictional universe just isn't that interesting.
A small group of mismatched rebels destroying an evil empire + laser swords + space ninjas is pretty much it
they never added much more than that.
Sure it worked for the first trilogy (and even then Return of the Jedi had to reuse the Death Star)
Nothing else matched the first two films and none of them added a new angle to the franchise

And yet, if Darth Vader was ejected into space, and we got a close up on his life support systems readings (in aurubesh, you freaks would love that wouldn’t you?) going critical, and then he said
“No”,
In James Earl Jone’s basso profondo register. Then he survived the vacuum of space through sheer hatred, reciting the Sith Code from KOTOR, while “Padme’s Ruminations” played in the background. There is not one single chucklefuck ITT who wouldn’t have had a premature hands free ejaculation in his pants at how “gigakino” that was.

You would all run straight to your “battle stations” without cleaning up your mess, sign in (this is red 5, standing by), and immediately rave post here about how they “finally depicted Vader’s power level properly”, even though Disney tries to do that every single chance they get and you all lap it up each and every single time.

I think the argument is just that it is OP and breaks the rules of the world building. Jedi are humans with some supernatural abilities like kung fu monks and shit, they arent super heroes. They can do some super human feats due to exhaustive training and occult knowledge that allows to wield the aether to benefit them in creative, but LIMITED ways. The entire point of their orders is to learn more about the force and use it in more inventive ways. They know the aether is the life and creation force of the entire reality (just like ours) and so its power is limitless (as vader is constantly reminding people of) but though its power is limitless, their ability to wield it does have limits. If you remove those limits it becomes real stupid real fast as you can just do whatever with the force and you are basically superman with no weaknesses. That makes for very boring and lame characters

As well as dishonest. Just like ninja or samurai or king fu monks etc. The appeal os their abilities are exaggerated but still within the realm of possibility. If you make characters like the hulk or superman who can punch planets in half the force loses its appeal because it is no longer an honest allegorical reflection of the occult knowledge they are trying to pass onto you in the story such as:
