>2026>Hollywood still hasn't made a movie with this level of fight choreography.
>>220724133The difference between old martial arts movies and modern ones is that in the past they just took skilled martial artists and put them in movies. Now they take actors and lazily teach them a few tricks in a week.
>>220724133https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ssRATP-iiUthis is the better fight, doe
>>220724172>they just took skilled martial artistsNo, they took Chinese acrobats. People specializing in “martial arts” barely exist anymore.
Why put that much effort when OP and the masses will still consoom for less?
>>220724133I could never get into these movies and the choreographies of the fights since it's clearly>punch>slight pause>punch>slight pause>combo>slight pauseetcno matter how complicated it gets they never went beyond that plus all the "kung fu" fighting has the actual hits be so light and lack power it's clearly play fighting
>>220724133There literally isn't anyone alive who could do this any more. Chan is too old and broken from doing this kind of thing his entire life.
Havent watched a Jackie Chan film in a long time. Rec me the best so I can watch them later.
What are the better most recent fight kinos? I feel like watching something good after a friend made me watch fucking mk2.
>>220724133Looked cool when I was a kid, but it's just impractical dumb stuff if you know anything about fighting.
>>220724254>rumble in the bronx>police story 1-3>drunken master 1 and 2>dragons forever
>>220724211Semantics, "martial arts" is the term for fight acting specialists and there are plenty, they just rarely get hired.
>>220724294This guy gets it. An actual fight doesn't last more than 10 seconds
Professional Wrestling mogs
>>220724312thanks, skippy
Why wasn't the dude in thw white more famous? Hes jobbs the fuck out of Jackie
NO ONE CARESNo one is paying to watch cartwheeling men. You are old and out of your element.
>>220724429True
>>220724294>Looked cool when I was a kid, but it's just impractical dumb stuff if you know anything about fighting.
>>220724133Already mogged my friend many years ago
>>220724957I look like this and say this btw.
>2 weeks in a room, just rehearsing and filming, for about 5 minutes of footageNobody in Hollywood OR China today could pull off the fighting like this. Jackie and the other Seven Little Fortunes were really a one time combo of stage acting and Chinese Acrobatic phenomenons. Even in China now their actors don't have that rigorous physical training from youth to do this sort of stuff.
>>220724312Police Story 4 is great for the ladder fight too
>>220725020>2 attacks>11 cuts
>>220725165I counted 12. one cut was really really short
>>220724133Got mogged again 2026 my friend
>>220724236Came here to say this.
>>220725158My favorite fight.
>>220724957Ok, but why post a self-portrait? Anyways I could heem your fatass and I know 14 year old boys who could kick your fatass as well.
>>220724133That's becuase in 2026 most of Hollywood is run by women and homosexuals
yup... they don't make em like this anymore
>>220724211Jackie Chan is an acrobat, Benny Urquidez is a kickboxer who has never lost a fight. Also trained John Cusack!https://youtu.be/u63lA_daetU?
>>220724133/tv/ tricked me in watching that movie, I had to swallow a weird 80s chink movie only to get to that fight. I won't say it was worth it because it wasn't.
>>220725230burgers making kino? incredible...
>>220726964This. Chan had his acrobatic/stage wushu background, then he went and studied kickboxing, karate, hapkido and judo, all from the perspective of learning how to make his choreography look more “modern” than the old shaw brothers kung fu period piece style. It’s a little dated now, but back then, it was groundbreaking, and for a while, everyone wanted to imitate Jackie. In his own career, Jackie would also go on to become one of the greatest stuntmen to ever live. No one’s claiming he was a professional fighter. But Urquidez was, and he was an exceptional example.Put them together and you get fight scenes that literally could not be made today. It’s like how some elements of practical effects have died out or are dying out.
>>220727389Jackie Chan’s movies usually aren’t very good as films. Usually a compilation of the stunts and the fights gets you most of the value out of the film. Sometimes there’s some impressive prop work in a comedic scene, sometimes the comedic scenes translate for a western audience, and very rarely is the plot compelling. But usually, you can skip that stuff.
They had the budget and pull to be allowed to just keep at a scene, a fight or a stunt until they got it right. Hollywood movies are stricter with money, unions, insurance for injuries etc.
>>220727723Is hard to believe that now that everyone had an mma phase they just can't film good fight scenes
>>220727723tbf fight scenes like in Meals On Wheels are unusually good even for their time
>>220724133For being relatively cheap films these fight scenes took days to make
>>220724504is this one of those "bad on purpose" things?hilarious
>>220724236The rhythm is on purpose because 1) all this shit comes from chinese opera which is all tied to music, and 2) it helps the fighters remember their moves and actually perform and 3) when the rhythm isn't there, it looks like shit, like in modern martial arts movies. Which is exactly what this thread is about. In the infamous video by "every frame a painting" they specifically cover this characteristic of Sammo/Jackie's style.
>>220724294>>220724320Jeez you guys would make amazing martial arts movies."ok guys we're going to do this ultra realistic fight. It's going to be over in 10 seconds, then the movie is over......aaaaaand ACTION!"Bravo dick heads.
>>220724452You're being trolled with those recs.
>>220724133When was the last time Hollywood even made a martial arts movie?
>>220724254Operation CondorDrunken Master 1 and 2Mr. Nice GuyPolice Story
>>220729142The jewish products you consoom aren't congruent with real life. You need that reality check
>>220724133And unfortunately, Hong Kong also never will again with the commie boot on their neck
The state of Hollywood action is so abysmally bad that we may be heading towards a Hollywood that doesn't make action movies at all.
>>220724254Who am I?
