The references in the early seasons are either timeless aspects of american culture, or sportsball players that are in their 60s and 70s now. It's not like Family Guy where they reference some TV show that was on the air 20 years before that nobody cared about at the time and nobody cares about now.
I'm Gen Z and it was my favorite show by far from ~5-12 years old. I owned 10 seasons on dvd. I haven't seen an episode in a decade however.

I get it, it has 4 pay offs and it's slightly dark or whatever, but it's not funny. It's safe, boring, lame and only one step away from pc comedy like wubalubdubs and behzingas. I don't care if the writers are neil dygrass tyson knowitalls. This show was a hit for reason and it's because it appeals neurotypicals. Neurotypicals don't have emotions and simply fake them from what they've seen from media. So a show that fills in the blanks for them like the simpsons has mass apeall due to that. t.a disillusioned and misanthropic zoomer who proudly wears his schizo hat and thinks the world is lame fake and gay and in need of near fatal calamity.
