I really think that if any movie could stand for a remake, it would be Maximum Overdrive. It would make perfect sense in this age of AI, and everyone's got a computer in their pocket, and spergy chinese dancing robots, and self-driving cars, and drones.

I binged watched some movies during this memorial weekend,
"Talk to Me" from the RakaRaka guys finally.
Was better than I thought it would be. Not as scary as I'd like but I liked the concept and they went about it.

I then watched their newest movie,"Bring Her Back"
I really vibe with this movie. was ehh for me, but not terrible
I wish they focused more on the intro scene(cult stuff) and it went directions I wasn't interested in.

I watched "Life" because I heard it was a good cosmic horror but really didn't like the design of the alien and that might just be an autistic complaint but I thought the crew was kind of retarded, didn't like the ending, and no one talks about this movie so I might not be totally alone in this opinion.

I wanted something more like either Alien or like Event horizon and "Life" fell flat for me.

I also watched Hokum and thought it was pretty fun. Not a whole lot to say. Not ever deep. I wanted more of the bunnyguy. Adam Scott acting like a total asshole was fun.

and finally I watched Barbarian and I am surprised how highly rated this movie is. I like the director from his "WKUK" days, I thought weapons was way better in comparison and I still wouldn't really defend "weapons" that hard besides saying at least it's not like a lot of the horror slop of of constant jump scares but eeehhhh

oh I and really liked Obsession. Surprised how triggered /tv/ is by it but fun concept, good execution. I guess like an 8/10

If you want to go REAL deep, you can't go wrong with Don Dohler. The Alien Factor, Night Beast, and Galaxy Invader are all "alien crashlands in rural Maryland, and kills rednecks for 90 minutes" movies. Alien Factor has a Cinematic Titanic version which is very funny, and Rifftrax did a treatment of Galaxy Invader, which is also likewise pretty funny.

Feeders is also another insanely low-budget one where little grey aliens that look like they're made out of paper mache are running around in the woods of Pennsylvania eating people. It might have the most visually unappealing cast that I've ever seen too, and can't act to save their lives. I think there's a Rifftrax of that on youtube as well, or at least there was as of my last check.

Galaxy of Terror is legitimately pretty good for being a low-budget Roger Corman flick. James Cameron worked on the visual design for that one, and it honestly does kind of look like a prototype for Aliens in places. Sid Haig, Robert Englund, a chick gets raped by a giant maggot, what's not to love?

Anything Fabio Frizzi (Zombi 2, City of the Living Dead, etc), or Claudio Simonetti (Dawn of the Dead, Demons, Primal Scream). I'm actually pissed that I only found out recently through Whang! that they have toured in the US before, and I completely missed it.

I've always liked Harry Manfredini's score for Friday the 13th, particularly part 2. I was watching old Siskel and Ebert episodes recently, I think it might have been a Wes Craven compilation, and they showed a clip of Swamp Thing, and I was like "Wait, a minute...that's fucking Friday the 13th!" Sure enough, he had basically copy/pasted his Friday the 13th score for Swamp Thing.

I really liked the stuff they did for the Alien trilogy too.

Honestly it’s sad that theatres are in such a bad place. I genuinely love watching horror stuff at the cinema. I just love the whole experience, the popcorn alone, (movie theatre popcorn and root beer). Theatres near me are pretty dead. I’m like two hours from a major metro area, there’s some cool independent/arthhouse places there that are usually doing well. What’s the theatre scene like where you guys live?

Finished Memorial Valley Massacre a while ago. Pretty solid caveman slasher. Would've liked for the gore to be more gruesome, but at least a lot of characters get killed, even ones you wouldn't expect. On top of that the prices are almost double what they were back in 2012 when I last went. I much prefer watching movies on my own, being able to pause, rewind and rewatch at will without laying down over $30 for a movie, popcorn and drink.

That's fair, 2026 prices are pretty high ($13-18) outside of matinee days and ultra-high-cost cities like NYC/LA can easily run twice that. I wouldn't go nearly as much if I didn't have A-List and a decent theater to use it at, but either way, some re-releases are worth paying out of pocket to see on the big screen.
