BLEH!
>>220726435>black horror anthology>3 out of 4 of the stories are about white people being racist>one of them is about a black killer who learns that killing other black people is wrong and he should really be targeting whitesI wish we held these people to the same standards we're held to
>>220726586someone should just make the most racist film imaginable about white people and get it over with at this point. It'd prove a point by how barely different from a bunch of mainstream films.

>>220726664Leprechaun In The Hood
>>220726761I felt the same, but was able to narrow what I need down enough that I can just run it through bottles/wine on Linux. Working so far for me. Already ditched one video player because it couldn't tonemap HDR to SDR and would stutter hard when seeking.
>>220726828Even HDR is buggy on windows and I'm always puzzling over if what I'm seeing is what I'm supposed to be seeing.
>>220726940My TV has an option for HDR, but I disable it because it can't get bright enough for it to actually matter. So I just play everything in SDR instead. I'll try it once just to see how Linux works with it, though.

>>220726415Anyone else getting tied of audiospam in modern horror? It's like every film now just has the most annoying fucking jumpscares and people act like it's award-winning shit. Case examples: Smile and Obsession
>>220727447I don't mind jumpscares but I agree around the sound design. I thought Nosferatu was one of the worst recent examples, it was fatiguing.
>>220727503I think my main beef with what they're doing now, is alot of the jumpscares aren't even that memorable or earned. Weapons had two that were just super loud and irritating.
>>220727601Jump scares are based. Sit down.
>>220727447Smile had awesome jumpscares.

>>220726415Hi, /hor/s. I'm looking for some recommendations for a very specific subgenre that I don't know the name for if there even is one, but I'll try to describe it. Basically, any movies/shows about a small group of people trapped in an isolated location being besieged by a malevolent force of some sort, and they have to formulate some sort of plan to escape/survive, and it usually ends in failure. Some examples that I know of and that I've seen. >Night of the Living Dead/Dawn of the Dead/Day of the Dead>Return of the Living Dead>Tales from the Crypt Demon Knight>Critters >Splinter>From Dusk til Dawn>Basically the entire Alien franchise>Predator>Tremors >The Descent>Pandorum>Pitch Black >Evil Dead 1 and 2>Deep Blue Sea>Jaws 1 and 2>Friday the 13th (kind of)>The Thing>Demons 1 and 2>Spookies>Demon Wind>Night of the Demons
>>220732017>>220731379And Maximum Overdrive, of course. I forgot that one.
Kino time
>>220732017Overall what you're describing what's called a chamber piece but narrowed down to the horror genre. I wish I knew of more myself. I can recommend Panic Room and Enter Nowhere.
>>220732060Where can I watch this cursed film?
>>220732017>Feast trilogy>Vermines>Dog Soldiers>Outpost>Altered>Reeker>Deep Rising
>>220732062Hey, that's a start. I guess some non-horror examples that I can think of (and I'm fine with non-horror in that genre too) are maybe Die Hard, or Poseidon Adventure, or any of those bank heist/hostage movies. Maybe Escape from New York, if you really stretch it.
>>220732017>Saw>Squid Game
>>220731948kek
>>220732017SHAKMAAAAAAA
>>220732062I think what they're looking for specifically has been described as siege horror.
>>220732210
>>220729605>story about a black gangster who realizes he's helping racist white people if he kills other blacks instead of white peoplelol that wasn't the moral of the story at all, anon.Tales from the Hood is good. Now the sequels are absolute dog shit.
>>220731379I really think that if any movie could stand for a remake, it would be Maximum Overdrive. It would make perfect sense in this age of AI, and everyone's got a computer in their pocket, and spergy chinese dancing robots, and self-driving cars, and drones. I love Pat Hingle in that movie, by the way. It's so funny going from knowing him only as Commissioner Gordon in the 90s Batman movies, and then seeing him as the cigar-chomping, shit-talkin, rocket launcher-firing good ol' boy asshole. "I got eggs on!""I don't give a ladybug, get in here!"
I am so happy I am not racist
>>220732210"And SHAKMA! Shocking audiences EVERYWEAH! SHAKMAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"Love that guy. He gets into it.
>>220732276He meets a skinhead nazi who gives him the whole "we're not so different, you and I" act and tells him he's doing a great job killing all those darkies for him, and then the guy realizes that it's wrong to go against your race, not that it's wrong to kill in general. The moral dillema is about it being his own "brothas" he's killing instead of whitey. It is played straight.

>>220732845Ah yes, The Mist was another one that I forgot. Cujo and The Shining too.
>>220732814> if you're tired of Whites you're free to go back to where you belongWhite countries are ruled by the Jews though.
>>220732897Jews are white.
>>220732867How was it? Did anyone get spooked at the end?
>>220732867I found that movie hard to watch as a kid because I thought it was scary. Now I find it too depressing to watch.
>>220732985Really liked it. It's a good example of a pretty cliche and tropey idea being elevated by really good filmmaking and performances. No one got scared; in fact, the guy next to was laughing at just about everything. Like when Carrie's mom does the cross motion with the knife before she goes to try and kill Carrie he found that hilarious for some reason.
>>220733167Maybe it's because I had a BPD stepmom who was prone to random fits of explosive rage, so I've got some kind of weird hardwired association, but I've always found her mom terrifying. Same with the Mommy Dearest bitch. I read one review calling her performance "overacted," and I was just like "Man, I envy you."
>>220733216I can't relate to Carrie's mom at all and even I found her performance to be pretty terrifying even if it's a bit exaggerated at points. Her, Spacek, and Allen all gave amazing performances. Travolta was bad but in a good way and I had no idea that this was his first main role.
>>220733248I can't even do that scene where she shoves her in the closet. It's too fucking real.
>>220733167I find that people are way too eager to laugh in the theater these days. Whenever I watch (especially an older) horror at the theater, people crack up at every little joke, every trope, every iconic line or slightly awkward delivery. Always laughing, like a bunch of clowns.I'm glad you got to see it and had a good time
>>220732017Dog Soldiers is one of the very, very best of those kinds of moviesalso check out Demon Knight
>>220733285It's very annoying. I saw Possession in a sold out theater at an indie theater near me and people were laughing throughout the entire thing. Not that that movie doesn't have some humorous moments to it, but it's a pretty bleak and demented movie all things considered.I love being able to see classics in an actual theater but I've come to appreciate my modest set up at home a lot too.

I binged watched some movies during this memorial weekend,"Talk to Me" from the RakaRaka guys finally. Was better than I thought it would be. Not as scary as I'd like but I liked the concept and they went about it.I then watched their newest movie,"Bring Her Back"I really vibe with this movie. was ehh for me, but not terribleI wish they focused more on the intro scene(cult stuff) and it went directions I wasn't interested in.I watched "Life" because I heard it was a good cosmic horror but really didn't like the design of the alien and that might just be an autistic complaint but I thought the crew was kind of retarded, didn't like the ending, and no one talks about this movie so I might not be totally alone in this opinion.I wanted something more like either Alien or like Event horizon and "Life" fell flat for me.I also watched Hokum and thought it was pretty fun. Not a whole lot to say. Not ever deep. I wanted more of the bunnyguy. Adam Scott acting like a total asshole was fun.and finally I watched Barbarian and I am surprised how highly rated this movie is. I like the director from his "WKUK" days, I thought weapons was way better in comparison and I still wouldn't really defend "weapons" that hard besides saying at least it's not like a lot of the horror slop of of constant jump scares but eeehhhhoh I and really liked Obsession. Surprised how triggered /tv/ is by it but fun concept, good execution. I guess like an 8/10
>>220735722quite a weekend anon.>Talk to Me>Barbarianboth annoyed the shit out of me. technically decent but hated them spiritually. Favorite horror soundtracks?
>>220736714If you want to go REAL deep, you can't go wrong with Don Dohler. The Alien Factor, Night Beast, and Galaxy Invader are all "alien crashlands in rural Maryland, and kills rednecks for 90 minutes" movies. Alien Factor has a Cinematic Titanic version which is very funny, and Rifftrax did a treatment of Galaxy Invader, which is also likewise pretty funny. Feeders is also another insanely low-budget one where little grey aliens that look like they're made out of paper mache are running around in the woods of Pennsylvania eating people. It might have the most visually unappealing cast that I've ever seen too, and can't act to save their lives. I think there's a Rifftrax of that on youtube as well, or at least there was as of my last check. Galaxy of Terror is legitimately pretty good for being a low-budget Roger Corman flick. James Cameron worked on the visual design for that one, and it honestly does kind of look like a prototype for Aliens in places. Sid Haig, Robert Englund, a chick gets raped by a giant maggot, what's not to love?
>>220736774The Evil Dead for me.Also the newest Halloween films, and The Ugly Stepsister (though that one is more pop)
>>220736866I appreciate the recs. I've seen a couple of them but the rest are going on the list.Tonight it's Inseminoid.
>>220736774Anything Fabio Frizzi (Zombi 2, City of the Living Dead, etc), or Claudio Simonetti (Dawn of the Dead, Demons, Primal Scream). I'm actually pissed that I only found out recently through Whang! that they have toured in the US before, and I completely missed it. I've always liked Harry Manfredini's score for Friday the 13th, particularly part 2. I was watching old Siskel and Ebert episodes recently, I think it might have been a Wes Craven compilation, and they showed a clip of Swamp Thing, and I was like "Wait, a minute...that's fucking Friday the 13th!" Sure enough, he had basically copy/pasted his Friday the 13th score for Swamp Thing. I really liked the stuff they did for the Alien trilogy too. CHUD even has a decently atmospheric soundtrack. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBRzf9SgFL0Also Day of the Dead. Tell me 0:29 to 0:49 of this wouldn't have been a perfect save room theme for an early Resident Evil game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RX9b1oB3Ugw

>>220737712>>220737779I have hopes it won't be woke at all because of the director (same guy who made Muck and Kill Her Goats), but this news is concerning, because it could mean the studio is pushing back against his based vision (i.e. topless women).
Honestly it’s sad that theatres are in such a bad place. I genuinely love watching horror stuff at the cinema. I just love the whole experience, the popcorn alone, (movie theatre popcorn and root beer). Theatres near me are pretty dead. I’m like two hours from a major metro area, there’s some cool independent/arthhouse places there that are usually doing well. What’s the theatre scene like where you guys live?
>>220737197Finished Memorial Valley Massacre a while ago. Pretty solid caveman slasher. Would've liked for the gore to be more gruesome, but at least a lot of characters get killed, even ones you wouldn't expect. It's gone under multiple titles including "Son of Sleepaway Camp", which I think fits, despite having no literal connection to the SC series.
>>220738623The novel is incredibly overrated too anyways.
>>220726435This dude fucking cracked me up. Best casting ever.

>>220738879Something being "not woke" is a pretty low bar bro, I hate that stuff as much as anyone, but if a movie still sucks I won't pretend it's good just for that reason. Everything about this movie sounds like an awful b-movie filled with constant references to the original movie.

>>220739554I agree, I was just referring to that anon who said it would be "very woke". The main thing they need to not fuck up is the special effects, which there's a strong chance will be the case (even with the promise of practical effects).

I don't know how someone can claim to be a movie fan when the last film they saw in theaters was back in 2013 or some shit, assuming you aren't physically disabled. Watching a great horror on the big screen is almost always incomparable to a flat screen at home.
>>220741817>when the last film they saw in theaters was back in 2013 or some shitThat's me. I miss doing it, but I can't deal with crods any more and hate missing parts of the movie when I have to go take a piss. On top of that the prices are almost double what they were back in 2012 when I last went. I much prefer watching movies on my own, being able to pause, rewind and rewatch at will without laying down over $30 for a movie, popcorn and drink. To each their own.

That's fair, 2026 prices are pretty high ($13-18) outside of matinee days and ultra-high-cost cities like NYC/LA can easily run twice that. I wouldn't go nearly as much if I didn't have A-List and a decent theater to use it at, but either way, some re-releases are worth paying out of pocket to see on the big screen.>I much prefer watching movies on my own, being able to pause, rewind and rewatch at will without laying down over $30 for a movie, popcorn and drink. Can't argue with that. I'm not sure who even buys concessions these days other than fatties and boomers kek it's always been very easy to sneak that stuff inside.
