how the hell was I supposed to figure out who the mole was on my first watch?
>>220728231This movie has a stupid title so I’m not watching Simple as
>>220728246Filtered
>>220728231You weren't
Toby Esterhase
>>220728486Not an answer to OP I just enjoy the name
>>220728231open and shut case of the actor getting the most screentime out of the suspects
I had no idea what was going on in this, but still enjoyed it. Very comfy!
>>220728231your were supposed to be in awe of Smiley's casual yet considered toughness despite his manner and looks
>>220728486is it pronounced toby "esterhaas" or "esterhasi"?
>>220728231Did you try paying attention you ADHD riddled fool?
>>220728780He wasn't tough at all. That's the whole point. His wife leaves him. He was a meek man that the dynamo Control carried through the ranks because of his talents as an intelligence analyst. Control forces Smiley to follow him out the door. Control knows the circus would eat Smiley alive without his oversight. Smiley's arc is about him understanding his shortcomings, like when he recounts his meeting with Karla, and becoming more confident and assertive by leaning on his talents as a great spy. The end of the movie is his wife coming back and him sitting at the head of the table confidently. People always accuse this movie of "trying to be smart" but it's so fucking straightforward throughout.
>>220728231Two questions: how did Smiley know that the guy he interrogated was Karla and why did Prideaux look so devastated in the end and wait to get his revenge if he knew that it was Haydon all along?
>>220728231You basically cant. Watch the series first then you will enjoy the film
>>220729508Cause they were lovers and Bill betrayed him to get tortured.
>>220729508Because Prideaux and Haydon were butt fucking faggots. It was an additional entire level of betrayal.
>>220728486Jared Harris was cast to play Toby Jones' role
>>220729550>>220729569Yes, but Smiley said Prideaux knew it was him and warned him before the Hungary mission, so why did all the emotions come out only after Haydon was caught?
>>220729662>He also confirms that Prideaux, a long-time friend (and, it is hinted, lover), suspected Haydon was the mole and tipped him off before his Hungary mission. Haydon was able to inform Karla and prevent Prideaux from being killed by the KGB. Prideaux, however, blames Haydon for allowing his torture.
>>220728231you could maybe remember from the one with woody allen playing smiley
>>220728231Finally sat through it and watched it. It was very enjoyable if you're some who appreciates movies of actual espionage.
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy or The Good Shepherd?
>>220728231read the book ahead of time
>>220728246Fpbp
>>220731161good shepherd is bad
>>220728486So odd seeing that preview format for something other than hardcore pornography.
>>220728907unironically whichever you prefer since the tv series and movie chose differently>>220729508because the intelligence services knew who he was, except at the time he was a lower level guy who seemed to be doomed to death before his incredible rise to the top of the Soviet spook machine
>>220728231you can make an educated guess but you can't really know until the reveal side note boy did the movie do esterhase dirty compared to the tv series, same with prideaux and the boy where I genuinely don't understand the reasoning for the difference
>We all had her George!
>>220728246Kingly, and why didn’t the tinker tailor eat the soldier spy’s shit?
Smiley really isn't that deep of a character, idk why actors think it's such a huge role
>>220732312It's called a contact sheet. It's very common when working with film photography. Instead of doing individual prints of the photos, you first put all your film directly contacting a sheer of photo paper, and expose that. That lets you get a general idea of what all your shots look like, so you can then do individual prints of any that you like. Hence "contact sheet", because the film is contacting the sheet of photo paper. These days, when working with film, a lot of people just scan the film, use the digital copies to pick out shots they like, then order photographic prints of the ones they'd like physical copies of.
>>220728231The '79 series is so much better than the movie I don't know why they bothered in the first place.
>>220729628I didn’t know that but can totally see it. Toby Jones is really good in it though
>>220732629>right click>save thumbnails>image created
>>220732695the film is a fun snappy little thriller that's great for vibes, but yes it gets mogged in telling the actual story by the show. between the better casting choices and the longer time to set up the plot it is objectively better. not to mention you get to watch Smiley's People to finish the story
Sounds interesting enough, is the film good?
>original has a gay romance between two principal characters>new one wants to make Guillam gay too
>>220732695finna gonna boutta watch this
>>220728231by putting your phone down and watching the film
>>220728246imagine being this retarded
>>220728231its not a game, you fucking idiot, you were not suposed to figure it, you dumbass
>>220734005Just watched it after seeing op post. I did. It’s obvious from the moment you see the wholesome little black and white photo of the two hugging after playing rugby. Of course archie told mr Darcy he was flying out to do spy shit. Basic murder she wrote stuff
>>220728231Best movie ever made.
