Hearst was a shit villain and he ruined the town dynamic. The last season and a half are markedly worse than what preceded them. The show was carried by Ian McShane, Carradine and Powers Boothe despite Olyphant and his Jew sidekick dragging the proceedings down into a soap opera every time they were on the screen, happy-go-lucky or glowering. Despite its short runtime, Deadwood managed to completely change the concept of its key characters, turning villains into antiheros and even making that nonsensical geriatric movie.
