I hate woke more than any of you. I don't think saying Mortal Kombat II is woke is fair at all. It's an earnest action movie where characters die. Even women. And Sonya doesn't do shit all movie so idk what the girlboss stuff you're talking about is.

The first one in this series was kind of lame. I don't remember anything about it but it felt woke. Woker than this one. Shao Kahn was cool in this and so was Kano. The liu Kang / Kung Lao fight was very videogamey, which I liked.

Will never beat the music and practical effects of the original 90s Mortal Kombat film. But mk2 was still better than anything else released in 2026 as far as I'm concerned. And much better than annihilation. So the 2nd best MK film all in all.

So yea I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't very woke. I see what you're all saying, making Kitana a main character and Johnny Cage is mostly a goof. That's the sort of thing typical in woke movies, they make men look stupid etc. but Johnny has a redemption and isn't the main hero, but a fish out of water character for the audience who didn't see the first one to relate to. Kitana is the only heir to ShaoKahn and plays the same role in the story she did in MK9 from way back when, where the girls has massive tits and gaming wasn't woke yet. So how can you say adapting storybeats from a game from 18 years ago is woke?
