Was it really bad enough to ruin his career?
>>220743023It was the final nail in the coffin. Meyers was already notorious for being difficult to work with and only got worse with age. He also stopped writing clever material and started focusing entirely on kindergarten-level gross out potty humor, most likely as a "fuck you" to the industry for never allowing his Sprockets feature film to get greenlit which was his passion project
>>220743098>Sprockets feature filmHonestly wish it had been made. Might have been shit might not but the sketch was good.

>>220743023It wasn't bad enough to ruin John Oliver's so, no.
>>220743245You can tell he really channeled this character into Dr. Evil in the first AP
>>220743245wayne's world and its immediate sequel being so popular probably prevented sprockets from getting made
After Wayne's World, Austin Powers and Shrek all being hit after hit, the fatigue for Mike's schtick got old and when he did Cat in the Hat, everyone just saw a movie about Mike being an asshole in a cat suit instead of it being a recreation of a Dr. Seuss story. Even he was probably tired after he phoned it in for Austin Powers 3. Laying low for a few years and making a cameo in Inglorious Basterds playing a British army general was him scratching something off his bucket list and was probably the smart thing to do to get people primed for the next Shrek and inevitable Austin Powers sequel.
>>220743810he made cat in the hat for some weird reason. Like some lawsuit forced him into it
>>220743023This and Tropic Thunder were the last times it was acceptable for a white to play a different race.

>>220743023It's REALLY bad.
>>220743098>>220743134>... and filming expected to begin in August 2000, but the project was cancelled in June 2000 after Myers became dissatisfied with his own script.[8][9][10] Less than a week after Myers informed Universal Pictures of his decision, the studio sued Myers for their $3.8 million spent in pre-production costs.[8][11] One month later, Myers was hit with a second lawsuit, this time from Imagine Entertainment, which claimed that "He [Myers] claimed he had not approved the screenplay. Who wrote the screenplay--Myers," Imagine claims Myers backed out after it and Universal agreed to his demands for more pay and millions of dollars were spent in pre-production. "This was not the first time Myers engaged in such conduct," the suit contended. "He has followed a pattern and practice of breaking his promises, betraying the trust of others and causing serious damage to those with whom he deals through selfish, egomaniacal and irresponsible conduct."
>>220743023I was in a movie focus group at the time this was coming out. They showed us 3 new trailers and wanted us to say what we thought about each one. all of us hated love guru and said we wouldnt want to see it. then the movie came out a few months later and bombed horribly, but what did they expect to happen?
