How often does a big budget movie NOT get released for years?
I think the deal is that Kevin has some sort of guarantee of a theatrical release of some kind, but the studio has no intention of throwing that sort of money at it when it's not even worth selling to a streamer.Either it will get a very small limited release or it'll be straight to streaming some time this year.
>>220743567Shelving a movie happens from time to time
>>220743638At one point, it could have sold well to a streamer. The first movie did well on streaming, and I have inside info that Netflix would have paid decent coin for part 2. Costner insisted it be in theaters though, so the whole thing is dead now. I empathize with wanting to go the theater route, but Costner should have realized the position he was in, and he didn't.
Loved reading about this Costner implosion.
>>220743567kevin costner is a terrible actor (robin hood) and terrible director (waterworld)
Open Range was his only good movie.
>not shooting all movies at the same timeRookie mistake.
They'll never forgive him for Waterworld
>>220744677He would have needed like $500 million
I tried to watch ch1 and I don't get why a large part of the side character material wasn't cut to bring it down to like a 2 part movie series instead of 4. Then he could've finished it.
>>220743567kevin costner is a C-list supporting actor that is under the delusion that he has the authority of an A-list lead.
>>220743567The movie is finished why don't they just dump it on Amazon prime or something
>>220744948Everyone forgets about Dances With Wolves
>>220743567Horizon was literally the only good movie in 2024
>>220744540He's a good actor and director (open range)
>>220744975that movie is the primary source of his delusion.
>>220744977Cowboy Bebop: The Movie had a re-release in 2024.
>>220744966Boomer autism. He wasn't it to be in cinemas, not tv.
I primarily watched this because of Open Range but didn't like it sadly.
>>220744912I refuse to believe this. I doubt he went full Cimine with building entire towns and having armies.
>>220743638>>220743567Costner put a shit ton of money into the project so he owns some significant part of it and has major leverage. I suspect you're right because boomer man is so convinced not just a western movie, but a western quadrilogy could be profitable in theaters. >>220744224>first movie did well on streamingThat's the second point for me, Horizon was so fucking bloated and slow paced it was perfect for a miniseries or two parter streaming movie. >>220744555Dances With Wolves is fantastic.>>220744540I actually agree, he's a terrible actor unless you put him in the exact autistic role he can play. DWW plays exactly into these strengths. The Untouchables does as well. The Postman and Waterworld were both flops but featured the exact autistic if not outright unlikable and hostile character he can play well. The real mystery to his career is how the hell he managed to charm women with that blank affective void. In the 90s he was one of the hottest leads and had already starred in many womanslop movies, most famously The Bodyguard. I guess it goes to show it doesn't matter how much tism you have if you're conventionally attractive?
