robocops up there
>they actually made a PG Conan reboot
>>220745675It sucked so much it made Conan The Deatroyer look good in comparison
>>220745695ive always loved the destroyer, best partof the soundtrack was stolen from barbarian though
>>220745695Conan the Destroyer was always good.
>>220745858So good it stopped the series dead in it's tracks.
>>220745875Oh no, it wasn't milked to death with progressively cheaper shitty sequels! What a tragedy!
>>220746005It was instantly milked to death with a single shitty sequel instead.
>>220746005theres a ton of great stories and comics that could theoretically have decent adaptations somewhere far far away from hollywood
Poledouris is such an underrated composer. Most people know him for his collaborations with Milius and Verhoeven, but he worked on kids films and comedies as well.
>>220746081I’m sad they never took the opportunity to do Hour of the Dragon before Arnold got too old.
>>220745858Good is a stretch, but it's better than modern day slop. It's a perfect example of a subpar 80s movie I'd rather watch than a critically acclaimed modern offering.
>>220746166Old man Arnold as King Conan would have been great
>>220746192So, good.
>>220745230The soundtrack is much better than this movie deserves
>>220746860retarded zoomer nigger faggot
Sometimes OP is simply correct. Conan is one of the platonic ideals of a good film. The soundtrack is indeed perfect. Theology/Civilization is my favorite but it's all amazing. Destroyer (for all its many flaws) also did have a really solid soundtrack. I was fortunate enough to see Conan in cinemas for an anniversary showing a few months ago. What a fucking experience. But a few fat boomers in t shirts showed up and kept chuckling loud at the dialogue like it was cheesy to them, kind of made me mad that they can't enjoy it earnestly. For me that's the most admirable part of the movie - that's it's not trying to be a joke. It's true, earnest admiration for Mythology, Archetype, just a pure hero's journey. That's why I love Milius.
>>220747151This anon gets it.
>>220747151The performance by Arnold was really solid We never got King Conan and it's a fucking travesty
making pure cinema like this is a lost art
>>220745230>doesnt post the best onehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt3d8aq4Mus
>>220745230>The greatest soundtrack of all time, bar none
>>220747752Pot n' kettlehttps://youtu.be/dLJ2hurTJKo?si=ca3cnxW93eV3NhlR
>>220746860thisthe more I watch Conan years after years, the more I see its flaws, the cheap production etc. Objectively, >>220747771 is right, Leone/Morricone reached a superior excellence
>>220747794fucking four winds faggot
>>220747803dumb zoomer
>>220747794>The Children of Doom... Doom's Children. They told my lord the way to the Mountain of Power. They told him to throw down his sword and return to the Earth... Ha! Time enough for the Earth in the grave.last time i watched conan i cried literal chud tears over how good this film is
>>220747752in no reality is that the best one
>He is Conan, Cimmerian. He won't cry, so I cry for him.
Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you!
BIG
>>220746152He really was. Unique style too, you could always tell when it's him too. Robocop, Conan, Starship Troopers...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoljYKfTx5M
>>220745858Agreed. I watch it more than Barbarian.
>>220747771the studio originally wanted morricone to do the score for barbarian but milius had already decided on poledouris. who knows how it would have turned out.
>>220749642The correct choice was made. Poledouris brought just the right amount of operatic and mythic energy to it, elevating the movie.Morricone operates more on the carnivalesque side of things and would almost certainly make a more overwrought and jokey soundtrack. That works well with spaghetti western grit and grime, making icons of the west feel more grounded and base, but the opposite was needed with Conan, to elevate the material instead of "lower" it.
>>220749642>Conan what is best in life?>wah wah waah
>>220745858>>220745695Destroyer was good but it had production meddling in ways similar to today. The comic relief character that was added detracts from the film and the strong female negress character (genderswapped from the books, too, I think) almost does.Despite this, it still was great, but its obvious it became more formulaic and if there had been a third movie back then it would've been even worse, look at the Red Sonja movie from that era co-starring Arnold. Enjoyable but only as a B movie.
>>220750065B movie from the 80s is high art by today's standards.
>>220750065What the gritty loner hero needs is a diverse >adventuring party, and a lighter tone, less nudity..No, Fuck Destroyer.
>>220745230Fun fact - huge chunks of the OST for Baldur's Gate 1 is just ripped off from the two Conan movies.
>>220750170Miura was killed for this by God.
>>220750202I knew he was done once he made that gigantomakhia one-shot and the focal point is the main guy being peed on for nourishment
My sequel to Conan the Barbarian would have had so much nudity, violence, sex and gore that your parental guardian would need a parental guardian.Destroyer is a piece of shit made for children.
>>220750170>less nudityDid you actually watch the movie? The princess' tits are practically always visible through her gauzy dress.
>>220745230Cheap copy of Miklos Rozsa works. Have some human dignity.
>>220750355stupid fagoot
>>220750337>It's a sheer cloth! How provocative!I would have adapted the stories on the Pictish frontier, where Conan gets captured and escapes, and have the second half be the Zingaran noble who's built a fort along the Pictish coast and gets rolled up on by pirates and a stalking Thing From Elsewhere. The Picts would make the natives in Bone Tomahawk look like Pocahantas. Plenty of painted ladypict tittays, just merciless amounts of forest action and mayhem, badass Pirate captain from Vanaheim, a great A lister for the Count...
>>220750404Yeah no argument, figures. For future reference everyone copied his music. From Star Wars to westerns. He defined epic music between the 60-80s
>>220750443I'll humor you. Link to your favorite work of his.
>>220750443And who did he copy from? Because he didn't invent music, as much as you'd like to believe.
>>220750443Star Wars copies Holst and Stravinsky, and a whole bunch of other classical stuff, stupid fagoot.
>>220745230>>220745230Pretty damn good, but tank girl is better. Also conan was the last film to use a mono recording of the orchestra or something.
