What do you mean? He still does RLM.
>>
>>220746473
Most directors do. More to the point would be why do you think he shouldn't have?
>>
>>220746473
Missing out on the Disney paycheck with Ant-Man made him bitter.

Shaun of the Dead, arguably still his most liked film, has a running time of 1 hour and 39 minutes. The Running Man, Wright's most recent movie, has a running time of 2 hours and 13 minutes. It's also his longest film to date. Like Tarantino, I'm convinced he's incapable of delivering a story under 100 minutes now. They've both grown too precious of their own work and can't bear to part with a single frame of their masterworks in the name of economy. The irony is that they frequently crow their admiration for movies with 80 minute runtimes, yet it never occurs to them make the same.

He’s a nice guy but he’s never been elevated past mediocre.

all of these trash films from "World's End"
> Julia Cumming
lmao

This is interesting to mention. Wright particularly has always been fond of Jackie Chan's early movies which are super short and mentioned Run Lola Run and Evil Dead 2 as his inspirations to become a filmmaker. Both movies are not even 90 minutes long

making a documentary about Sparks was pretty based tho
>>
>>220747756
Baby Driver and the Sparks documentary are pretty good.
Last Night in Soho too, if you can get past the interracial stuff.
The Running Man is his only dud, but it's far from being terrible.
>>
Hasn’t made a good film in what, 20 years?
>>
>>220746473
>watch Running Man
>the ending is a 2 minute explanation by a narrator
what the FUCK happened to him?!
>>
>>220747201
as much as I love Hot Fuzz it's a bit too long for its own good

The Sparks doc sucked, it was just two hours of celebrities going "THIS SHITTY 80S POP DUO ARE ACTUALLY THE GREATEST BAND EVER"
>>
>>220746473
He sucks without Simon Pegg
>>
>>220747290
What was he thinking when he paired a soft looking white angel with the blackiest of black negros I've ever seen in my life
>>
>>220746473
Baby driver sucked, One night in Soho was really bad and didn't even bother watching Running Man and I never will

It's a nice contrast.
Cinematic even, don't you think so?

He directs juvenile material in a juvenile style, which worked well for his early movies when he was playing to that audience, but he just doesn't have the range to endure

He will never make a serious film

Has the Orson Welles Issue of peaking way too early in his career. I watched The World's End the other day and i cannot understate the perfect ribbon it puts on the package of the cornetto trilogy. I couldn't imagine following up that trifecta with anything better.
I feel he had something to say and said it, now there's nothing for him but adding his style to whatever comes his way.

>Like Tarantino, I'm convinced he's incapable of delivering a story under 100 minutes now
That's because Tarantino's longtime editor "Sally Menke" died in 2010. After her death, Tarantino struggled with making his films flow well. That's why Tarantino started doing the awkward narration in his films starting in 2012 with Django. People give Tarantino a ton of credit for making solid films but often forget that people like him succeed because of a collaborative effort. I'm pretty sure a similar situation applies to Edgar Wright and his drop off.

>I'm pretty sure a similar situation applies to Edgar Wright and his drop off
all of his best work was cowritten by Simon Pegg
>>
>>220748713
Simon Pegg's work without Edgar Wright is arguably even worse though.
>>
good director, can't write for shit without Simon Pegg and Nick Frost to bounce on.
>>
>>220748713
But then when you look at all Wright films you see how stunted he is. It's about guys and beer. People who can't grow up. His non Pegg work is like that.
>>
>>220746473
He was never good.
It was Simon Pegg that was the talent.
The cornetto trilogy was good despite Edgar, not because of him.
