Why didn't you tell me about this kino?
>>220749304You didnt ask anon
>>220749362I'm asking all the time about kinos
I told you constantly.
>>220749386No you did not
>>220749304I said it all the time. Just yesterday I said out loud unprompted "The film Manhunter from 1986 is kino".
>>220749304/tv/ has always been a certified Manhunter board. You need to lurk more.
>>220749386>I'm asking all the time about kinosIn capeshit threads, I'm sure.
>>220749304but this place is the only place in the web that likes this more than Silence
>>220749454This shot alone completely outclasses Fiennes' performance.
>>220749531And rightfully so. Silence is good, but overrated. Manhunter is phenomenal.
>>220749560As strong as I am, there's something about this scene that scares me.
>>220749546I remember watching Doug Walker's video where he compares Red Dragon to Manhunter, and he said he preferred Red Dragon for being more visually interesting. A truly baffling opinion.
Mann is one of the good ones
>>220749520Just tell me about the damn kinos it's not that hard
Fun Fact: The original title of the movie was "Killer Finder."
>>220749612>Red Dragon for being more visually interestingBrett Ratner, more visually interesting than Michael Mann. Fucking Brett Ratner.
>>220749304Well, zip that little pointer right on down to the letter F. For faggot.
>>220749546brilliant>>220749612Doug is a brainlet. He's perfect to watch for background noise, and he seems like a decent guy. But you shouldn't take his opinions too seriously.
watch the 35mm cut it's on archive, vastly superior visually to standard version
>>220749690And the protagonist was originally called Bill Cracker
Dream much, Will?
>>220749560William Petersen is so good in this film. Incredible kinetic energy.
>>220749867>But you shouldn't take his opinions too seriously. The man is an enigma. Sometimes his observations are actually really astute, other times he struggles to understand the plot of Disney movies. I will always cherish the very early Nostalgia Critic episodes though.
>>220749560his increasingly more unhinged behavior in to live and die in la is even better although it's a weaker movie
>>220750060I don't think he pays attention to popular movies that he's already seen. He misses basic details or is confused by simple things so often that I can only conclude that he's phoning it in when he writes some of these review scripts. But he's good comedy and I'm glad he's still around. I laughed pretty heartily when he reviewed the Great Mouse Detective and he got to the stripdance scene. "Do I like mice?"
the music ruins the movie
>>220750207I'm having a frustratingly hard time finding this movie on streaming or second-hand sales.I'm mildly mentally disabled, so pirating or paying full price on Amazon are out of the question for me.
>>220750207to live and to die in LA is weaker but it's still a great 80s movieanother fantastic performance by petersen
>>220750286I'm glad someone said it lmao
STRONG AS I AM
I CAN HEAR YOUR HEARTBEAT
IN A GADDA DA VIDA BABY
>>220749304You've seen this film, haven't you my man?
I prefer the sequel.
>>220749923Just marathoned it. That shot of a relaxed Hanny and equally casual Will on the phone, with inverted black/white colour schemes and horizonal mirroring is absolute kino.
>>220750288Manhunter & To Live and Die in LA are both currently streaming for free on Pluto TV.
>>220750942Thank you, bot.
>>220750941my favorite shot is when the elevator in the dark skyscraper in the background lights up and starts going down, they had a crew there to time it and go in
>>220751032And right at Will's epiphany moment where Lecktor implies killing makes one God-like, like a light bulb going off as he stares into the middle distance and ignores the phone. Kino
>>220749304Check this one out, mann, it's even better.
>>220749304Watch all the Mannkinos anon
>>220749304ok OP, so don't tell us you never got recommended The Thief and To Live and Die in LA>>220749566Silence is just a regular popcorn flick, Manhunter is cinema
>>220749304Unpopular Opinion AlertMann's top 3 movies:1. Thief2. Collateral 3. Miami Vice
>>220751448>Silence is just a regular popcorn flickI don't know why people rave so much about it. It's alright, but it's nowhere near as deep or vivid as Manhunter. Maybe people just really like that it has Bach in it.
Finished reading red dragon a couple of weeks ago. I wouldn't have guessed it deserved two adaptations. It was just fine. I hope Silence of the Lambs is better because he sucks at writing characters. Lector was only sort of interesting in Red Dragon
Manhunter was my favorite for a while but I think it's Miami Vice now. I'm not saying it's Mann's best, but it's my favorite at this point https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIOymozaiPg
>>220750391>>220750464>>220750490All kino
>>220751822Airport novels used to be very bankable for film adaptations.
>>220750367And then he basically disappeared until CSI.
I've mentioned it at least 10 times and so have many others
>>220750367He should have been more famous, was he not good looking?
*strong as i am starts playing*https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHLeuVUzQIk
I CAN FEEL IT COMIN IN THE AIR TONIGHT
If you liked that, OP, you're gonna love this.
>>220749304Mann will never surpass it.
>>220749992He's the only Will Graham that seems really unhinged, like he really might flip to the other side one day
>>220750207>>220750581I was just thinking about thisPeterson is so good in these movies. I have no idea how he wasn't a bigger star in the 80s.Fortunately he ended up with a steady paycheck in CSI in the 2000's but he deserved to be a movie star
>>220752128I don't think he would've done it.
>>220751905People act like these books are peak thriller fiction. Maybe a serial killer was more compelling back in the day.
>>220749304I've told you at least once
>>220752085he turned down a lot of roles/auditions and was a theater actor first and foremost. Friedkin plucked him from obscurity after seeing him on stage.
>>220752293
>>220752128Why did she cheat on a living God? All women are the same.
>>220749612>there are no objectively wrong opinio-
>>220749454Tom Noonan is the most underrated actor.
>>220749560Him talking to himself is cheesy as fuck, but it's still an excellent movie.
I can't find a version of Tom with tattoos. The original cut of the film had them, but then all the subsequent versions used reshot footage without them.
I am the protagonist of a Michael Mann film and I need to stare forlornly at a body of water as I wrestle quietly with my inner turmoil.
>>220750286Ludicrous opinion.
>>220752017David good name
>>220751502Collateral is awful. It's just terribly written.
Just you and me now, sport.
DO YOU SEE?
Manhunter is a sad movie more than anything. That blind woman was a slut.
>>220751502You are exactly 38 years old.
>>220753016Mann has such a fetish for depicting relationships in his films that he shoehorned in the Jamie foxx/smith subplot even though it didn't make sense. All of Mann's films are about cops and criminals and their women primarily. I mean, I know that character driven storytelling is good writing but he has an odd focus on it.
>>220752955Mann decided during filming that the tattoos trivialised his internal struggle and reshot the bits he’d done featuring them. They’ve only been shown in behind the scenes photography and promotional stills
>>220753016Yo homie, is that my shitpost?
>>220752960Ah, just the way I like it.
>>220753110off by 7
>>220753042He's talking to himself, right?
>>220753016The writing is fine, it's certainly better written than Heat. Mann's best at cinematography, atmosphere, and action and Collateral has all 3 in spades.
Well here...I...am.

Fuck you guys, every time there's a Manhunter thread I gotta go watch it.
>>220752960same
graham, dollarhyde, and lecktor are all gay. when you think about it that way, the film makes a lot more sense. even explains the weird gay lisp graham does when talking to his reflection in the window

Michael
>>220749454I wish Dolarhyde got as much screentime in Manhunter as he does in Red Dragon
>>220755977That's not a bad thing though anon.
>>220749756
>>220751502Miami Vice has aged like absolute milk, that's precisely the point where he fell off.

>>220749304Mann's best movie and only faggots disagree.
>>220749992So is Brian Cox, he is completely overshadowed by Hopkins performance but he could give him a run for his money.
>>220752085The original CSI is also a great show up until S5 or 6 and its criminal that its kind of forgotten.
>>220753318Fck :)

>>220760177>>220760210funny, I was going to say Tony Scott
>>220749304Superior to Red Dragon. Red Dragon attempts to go into generic thriller. Plus the demise of the antagonist had In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida playing.

>>220750367the tiny penis in the sex scene was a massive aura loss. But overall it was a great film imo. >>220751962why do you need to ask, you can't see with your own eyes? He's average looking at best.
The precise perfect balance between dreamlike and highly realistic. The investigation is actually very detailed with forensics and reconstructions, but the tone of scenes, the lighting and color palette, the soundtrack, etc feels more abstract.
I told you two days ago specifically
>>220749304Probably the most overrated of all the so-called "underrated" movies
>>220749304Love this movie
>>220753238>Guy on the right pretending he can't get his gun out.Dogshit scene.
>>220749304It's a Michael Mann movie, of course it would be kino

>>220750581Overrated as fuck film. The money printing scene was the only good part.>b-but muh real life special effectsThe chase made no sense, the plot is ass, and the pacing is terrible
