The generation of Gen Xers who were kids in the 80s—not the older ones who grew up on normal live-action stuff, but the little kids—seriously cannot let things go. They refuse to accept that Star Wars was basically just a fad that hit normies maybe twice, and that’s it. To regular people, those movies are just like Avatar or the MCU; they’re quick popcorn flicks that you watch and then move on from. It doesn’t matter how good or bad the new stuff is, it’s never going to be that popular again because normal people move on.But this specific group of 80s kids just can't fucking let go. We’re actually getting a new He-Man movie when nobody under 40 even cares about He-Man. Even the "annoying" Millennials eventually let their 90s-kid obsession go once they hit their 30s, and Zoomers don’t obsess over their media like this either. You don’t see a Zoomer acting like Camp Lazlo is a sacred text. The older crowd doesn't act like this; they aren't going on and on about how great Mork & Mindy was. But the generation that follows RLM and Retroblasting acts like these toy-based shows are the most important thing in the world. They were the ones who grew up on shows that were just 30-minute toy commercials, and they are still ranting about it decades later while the rest of the world has moved the fuck on. We don't get new action figures for Static Shock but we get fucking action figures for niche ass cartoon like SliverHawks. Why do you think these people can't move on from their childhood stuff compared to everyone else?
>>220759491All the movies RLM praises are just popular 80s movies and they act like they are deep cinematic masterpieces.
>>220759491RLM are retards they don’t realize they helped foster the kind of thinking that helped make the sequels as shit as they are. Their prequelbashing helped cause the knee jerk reaction to distance the series from Lucas and the prequels in favor of safe OT pandering and the Star Wars boomers are up TFA. Now Disney ran the series into the ground and these crotchety aged fucks bitch and moan about the death of their favorite franchise when it’s people like them who caused this stupid nostalgia pandering in the first place. Fuck them.
>>220759680>jj abrams should have directed star warsuh not my fault guys that he sucked too
>>220759737
>>220759748They fucking loved the first sequel movie after going to a midnight screening until everyone else posted their reviews and hated it and then they did a 360 and hated it too
>>220759772What losers
>>220759680Star Wars after the prequels should've just stayed lower budget TV shows and comics/books, regular people had their fill and there's not enough hard for fans to make it earn money unless it small budget. I seriously think SW just faded out of popularity with normies like most things.
>>220759782Star Wars was on its way to being a pop cultures sci fi cornerstone with a dedicated cult fan base like Star Trek before they dragged it out to be milked to death. That would have been preferable to the death by a thousand cuts it received.
>>220759748
>>220759748what a fucking retard. The space battle at the start of episode 3 is some of the best visuals in this entire series.
>>220759680>Nostalgia pandering>All the heroes of the OT failed in their endeavours>Han is a deadbeat dad and an old man still working as a smuggler>Lea is a failed politician that created such a fragile state that it immediately imploded from the remnants of the Empire and she never bothered to have a proper army>Luke abandoned all his ideals, tried to kill his nephew and went on a self imposed exile while the galaxy around him burnsI always thought that nostalgia pandering ment that the OT heroes are supposed to be presented in a good light, not as abject failures and losers.
>>220759491Zoomers and millennials are actually pretty lucky their shit isn't being touched really, it's likely because they won't pay the amount of money for the merch like these genders will, I mean millennials will buy retarded Funko pops like a 500 dollar like display toy thing, nah.
>>220759892Gen xers not genders kek.
>>220759878they had this odd mindset to both pander to the OT fans while simultaneously shitting on them to make room for their hip young diverse new cast. In the end they managed to piss everyone off, which is why no one gives a fuck about star wars
>>220759491Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this. Gen Xers have forced internet culture to be about these shitty products like Star Wars, Star Trek, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Nintendo games, etc, because they were the first to use the interne.
>>220759491>Star Wars was just a fadobvious by watching the first movie
My dad in his 50's, it's weird seeing he isn't obsessed with the stuff he grew up with like these guys, I guess because late 70's and early 80's cartoons weren't toy based like the late 80's and he was too old for that stuff when it came out. He has more nostalgia for the regular TV shows like Emergency or Sanford and Son than the cartoons.
once again, star wars fags dont like the prequels because the prequels are what star wars actually issame as dubbed anime hatethere is no longer a grade of separation(low budged or different language)animu fags see that animu is gay and retarded and star wars fags see that its a shitty soap opera for kidsliterally every single positive thing about star wars was stolen from other movies
>Boomer nostalgia: I remember that, it was nice>Gen Xers: THE BEST THING EVER I PAID 300 DOLLARS FOR A LIGHTSABER BUT NOW EVERYTHING WOKE AGH BUT THEY NEED TO KEEP MAKING STUFF FOR ME>Millennials: The 90's was better but all I can afford is a Funko pop>Zoomers: lmfao memes of this thing I watched as a kid.
>>220759931because he's from an age where a household had one tv, and his parents decided what to watchI had to watch bullshit like on the buses, george and mildred, man about the house. I don't like them but they are cystallized nostalgia, untainted because I seldom ever think about them
>>220759944>anon states a truth... only to use it as a tool to yap about animeimagine hiding your arguments behind unrelated shit. lol. couldn't be me
>RLM are such hardcore Star Wars fans, they don't even know who Dave Filoni isAnd Disney took their opinion seriously.
You know as someone who never give a shit about SW besides liking the 03 cartoon and the games, I never heard of RLM till like 2020 and it was just people being negative about them and then I saw their videos where they're just bitter unlikable assholes the whole time and I never bothered watching them. I miss Spill.com those were just regular ass guys no irony or being dicks, Double Toasted exist but not the same, even as shit as Screenwave is with James at least Rental Reviews acted like regular though pretty lame guys. No one will top Spill.com however hell they did the RLM format first.
There was a period from 1987 to 1997 where Star Wars was effectively a thing from the past, it was still referenced in culture obviously, and there was a small contingent of hardcore fans that obsessed about it daily, and people who enjoyed those movies expressed some nostalgia for it every once in a while, but by and large it was in the background of most people's lives and culture. starting in 1997 with the release of the special editions, and perhaps even more so after Disney acquired Lucasfilm, it seems like the movies became enshrined in a permanent present. I swear that in 1995, SW A New Hope felt like a very old movie, something that informed the present but wasn't necessarily part of it. Now it feels like the movie came out yesterday and is permanently culturally relevant.
>>220760152Bitter irony poisoned gen xers who can't let go but also are never happy about anything really sums them up. Pretty sad zoomers are more positive and gentle than gen xers, if a zoomer likes something they just like it no bullshit attached.
Obsessed.
>>220759680You will never convince me that Disney was not taking cues from their Plinkett reviews when making TFA. Which, ho boy, did it backfire.
Liking Andor is a tell.
>>220759491Maybe Grogu being a 50 year old toddler was Disney making fun of them.
>>220760157In 1995 Not only did ANH feel like an old, classic movie, but the pop culture legacy was baked into the film, as in people lining up to see the movie over and over again, how it was the highest grossing movie, how unbelievable the effects were at the time. It was kind of like got "beatlemania" is inherently baked into the Beatles music (even though, realistically, why should anyone think about what made 12 year olds scream 60 some odd years ago).Sadly, I think you still need that PHENOMENON factor for Star Wars to be Star Wars. That's why TFA was so cool to see opening weekend, it was like the excitement was back, regardless of the quality of the movie itself. I personally enjoyed the Mando movie, I'll probably watch it again and could see mostly enjoying it years down the line... but given that I know maybe one other person who's seen it, and literally when I ask my Star Wars enjoyer friends about it they don't even know it's out, it's like, who cares? In a way I think that's where a lot of the pocket watching and obsession with SW box office online comes from. I think if Kathleen Kennedy oversaw much worse movies that were much more successful, people would champion her, because she was able to make Star Wars mania happen again. When people complain about the Disney movies, whether they know it or not, I think they're (rightly) lamenting the loss of being able to take part in a pop culture phenomenon like previous generations did.

>>220759748I don't know how anyone can read this transcript and think this is good commentary. Their "criticism" was always extremely shallow and low IQ, but they dressed it up with humor to misdirect and trick the audience into thinking they were saying something deeper. Just awful. I'm glad people don't worship these reviews anymore.
