>I wish Nikki would be possessed by an autistic demon while her actual soul is tortured in Hell, occasionally resurfacing for brief moments of horror and confusion.
Why would he make that wish instead of just wishing for her to love him?
>>
Thank you for addressing my main beef in this movie.I don't see why everyone gets the bitch about bear. When he made it totally innocuous wish, which maybe isn't ethical, but it's not like he wanted her to fucking suffer
>>
>>220760782
because when he realized what was happening, even when the real her begged him to kill her to put her out of her misery he just got asshurt that she didn't want to be his girlfriend
>>
>>220760815
This. Bear is the archetypical modern basedman obsessed with himself and his own emotion.

i don't blame him for not killing himself right away but you have to admit that him getting butthurt on his own behalf after he learns the wish is clearly fucked up is very self-absorbed
>>
>>220760358
The way he worded his wish was just stupid. Of course he probably didn't think it would turn out real, but there are so many ways he could have worded it differently. Or just wish for a billion dollars and actually try to make her fall in love with you.

I'd love to know what the warnings on the box said

the real nikki was testing bear's waters outside of her home. 'do you like me' is as direct a prompt as bear will ever get to confess his feelings, and if he did so right then, nikki might have said 'okay. i'm willing to try it.'

her initial 'ew' when he says he bought her something is because her default feeling about bear is that he's like a brother to her (this is stated by ian/sarah later, forget who specifically). but she's willing to consider another option, and she gives bear the chance to pursue that other option, but he bitches out. 'no sorry it's nothing have a good evening'. a loser.

immediately after he fails this test he goes for the wish because he just wants to possess her, possess his idea of her, rather than allow himself to be vulnerable for just a moment. the wish recognizes that the Current Nikki is too complicated/too scary for bear to confront, so it creates an alternate nikki that has none of that specific kind of complication. instead she has BPD complications.

the real nikki screams in torment on the phone not because she couldn't ever love bear but because she is a hostage in her own body and that can't be very fun.

My interpretation aligns pretty much with your points, I was probably the first on /tv/ to start talking about this. I would just note we have to recognize that
>the wish recognizes that the Current Nikki is too complicated/too scary for bear to confront, so it creates an alternate nikki
is entirely our headcanon. It just makes more sense and is a better told story for it to be this way than "demons" or whatever. No definitive statement can be made on this because the movie is purposely ambiguous

Remember, the wish was "I wish nikki freeman loves me more than anyone in the entire fucking world." Would a wish like that really, would it REALLY result in what happened? Yes he stupidly stipulated an intensity to the love but come on. I've come up with a personally satisfying explanation about her escalating behaviour, I dont call it "bpd complications" but at the end of the day it's all kind of fucking bullshit that his happened to Bear.
>>
>>220762226
my read of her escalating behavior is that the film is a parable about the modern man who is perhaps more inundated in the fantasy of the desire target (porn, parasocial relations with streamers or onlyfans whatever, endless accesses to the Image of a Woman) than ever before. the distance between the ideal fantasy of a relationship with a person and the actual realization of that relationship has always been something to grapple with for all human beings, but the point is more that in the present day, a man can really just sit in the fantasy forever. there is enough to get his rocks off forever, and he can maybe fulfill his heart in a weak way with parasocial whatever.

bear is a character who i think doesn't necessarily exhibit this kind of lifestyle but i think his neuroticism reflects the general character of the average millennial or zoomer man, the kind of man who lives in fantasy and has no experience or comfort with the real thing. the entire point of the film is that bear's perspective is flawed and wrong. he is too sheltered, he is not capable of doing the real thing, so he gets a fake thing with the wish. the montage shown of fake nikki and him having a loving relationship is *exactly* the kind of fantasy he imagined previously, i'm sure, and it's meant to look idyllic and desirable to the average male viewer, but this fantasy is built on a faulty base (the fact that bear can't actually make the move required to get the Real Thing, and he doesn't even prefer it, as he says to fake nikki late in the film 'can't you just act like her. this is fine if you just act like her'. he prefers the simulacrum even knowing it's all bullshit), and the moment this base gets addressed (the cancer dad question at the dinner date), it's tumbling down ever since. if bear simply never ever questioned the base and played his part in the fantasy (which he can't do), then he can have that fantasy forever.

but the film's point is you don't actually want a fake thing.

I think the main point is to showcase that most men are emotionally retarded animals

They're just trying to get laid and not he "alone", to the point where no means of obtaining a partner seem wrong. Anybody with any small amount of empathy would say "this seems wrong, I don't want a slave"

However most modern men are essentially giant hairless simians that are like Bonobo primates. So, to them it's more so about the lack of any complex reasoning

Did you guys know many people dont even have an internal dialogue?
What do you think that does to the process of consideration or observof the outside world?
Hell what do you think that does to the internal world
>>
>>220760782
Most people aren't mad at him for the wish itself. They're mad that once he found out the reality of the wish he kept dating and fucking her.
>>
>>220761695
>the real nikki was testing bear's waters outside of her home
>her initial 'ew' was or maybe wasn't genuine and it's up to Bear to magically figure that out on his own

Sounds like Nikki needed to stop sending Bear so many mixed signals.

In the past week on /tv/ I've seen really retarded takes and very intelligent and insightful ones like some anons in this thread, but I feel left out of both of those camps.
To me, the mechanics of the wish are incredibly straightforward. The wish doesn't create or plant the seed for an entity in her place. It just controls her actions against her will to fulfill its directive. Resulting in her saying and doing things that she doesn't mean to..... I cant say this any more simply than that. That's all that's happening. She's a puppet. The way Inde plays her is like a puppet. The scenes where she moves like a puppet on strings. Her facial expressions often first go to a default state before changing instead of how humans naturally behave. Because she isn't, she's being controlled by magic. If you're looking for it though, original Nikki shines through the mask in honestly every single scene. I feel as though this is literally correct, it's how Inde seems to talk about it in interviews. The duality between Nikki and "Freaky Nikki" is simply when the wish's magic has taken control of her.

I think you could only critique my view by bringing up the hansel and gretel poem. I dont know. I would simply say: This is a horror movie. I dont think Curry knows why he wrote that except for it's creepy as fuck and I want her to start going craaaaazyy
>>
>>220762768
i mean she's mixed because she's not sure. it's fine for her to be mixed in such a case imo. she wasn't as explicit as she could be: "bear i know you like me but i kind of see you as a sibling so it's difficult for me. if you really want to try it i'm down but just letting you know: don't get your hopes up, i don't know how i'll feel about this", but being that explicit is generally seen as overbearing and too forward. people don't like doing that. i think nikki's communication while parked outside her house was plenty obvious as to what it meant, and i think bear could see it too - he knew she was asking for a confession - but he just couldn't do it because he's a pussy.

So the movie is just feminazi nonsense stretching every thread to make "I wish my crush liked me back" some evil desire, alright
>>
>>220763688
she literally could like him back in a normal way if he just went about it in a normal way

desu the only way to break the spell is to kill himself or kill her. not exactly easy things to do.

>>220760782
he didn't get his wish. the entity says it is not Nikki and cannot act like Nikki. He wished for Nikki to love him. He didn't get his wish.

Eh. Women probably should be lobotomized and have their bodies puppeted by soulless demons which make men happy.
We will soon have the technology.
