Why does /tv/ hate /et/?
>>
He's hideous and looks like a slimy dick.
>>
>>220764477
It was one of my favourite films for a significant portion of my life. I love it.
>>
>>220764477
This movie was everywhere when I was a kid, I naturally assumed it was a classic like Star Wars or Jurassic Park. It was pretty weird to then never encounter a fan of the film or even a positive reference. Today it's universally known as Bad Spielberg. Very interesting phenomenon, maybe it just didn't age well.
>>
>>220764638
(still haven't seen it)

>Today it's universally known as Bad Spielberg.
It's one of his most popular and critically acclaimed movies, wtf are you talking about?
>>
It's like a horror film that they tried to pass off as a kid's film

>Today it's universally known as Bad Spielberg
Horseshit.
>>

It works better as a horror film than 90% of the genre. Probably why it was so popular. As a kid it's good to be frightened but then they tack on a life-affirming story of friendship there too which makes it endearing and moving.

It's one of the highest grossing films ever, but also a byword for sentimentality over substance. Supposedly an example of Spielberg's bad tendency, I haven't seen it.

>what is fear of the unknown
I hate retards so much
>>

The thread asked why we hated E.T. and if I had to give you a reason I dislike the movie that would be it. Otherwise I think it's an amazing movie
>>

He gave me nightmares

I love this little ayy like you wouldn't believe

is that from Threads? I thought it was just an ET shaped lump of foam not an actual ET doll
>>
>>220764477
Xenomorphs are sexier
>>
>>220765474
This might be the real reason, ET as a character is pointless and compares unfavorably to the xenomorph which had a much slower burn of popularity.
>>
>>220764477
The shithead little kid is essentially a terrorist. If the government needs to shut down your neighborhood to find an alien just let them.
>>
>>220765458
Yeah it is, good eye.
ET was huge in the UK then and IIRC it was supposed to show how pop culture dies with the people or something.
>>
>>220765604
They were only made two years apart, that's certifiably based to burn ET at the height of his popularity when he's probably still in UK theaters.
>>
>>220765641
I bet it was a nice extra punch in the gut at the time
>>
>>220765777
I hope so

ET is fine. Yeah it is a bit sentimental/manipulative but that's Spielberg.

The funny thing is it's pretty much exactly the New Testament (stranger comes to earth, heals people, is killed, is reborn, ascends). Not sure SS even realized until he'd made it.

Also a career best performance from DB.

No one hates ET. If they say they do, they are b8ing you.
