his only weakness is kryptonite, that's kinda the whole point of the character
in most media they need to tone down his canonical powers because it would be too boring with them since everyone except other kryptonians would job to him so fast

This is why superman is the dumbest concept for a character and why all superman movies suck. He's like 1 step short of fucking god. There can't be any real tension in a story where he's present because he's just going to punch the villain into the sun or something and walk away unscathed.

Notice how in the Justice League movie, it ends like 10 minutes after Superman shows up? The entire movie was just them trying to find a way to bring superman back and as soon as they did, the movie was over because superman is OP.

No. A lot of people get it confused. He isn’t weak to magic, but he is vulnerable to magic. Here’s an example to illustrate the distinction. If a wizard summons a fireball to launch at Superman, then the fireball would be ineffective because Superman is already resistant to fire. All the wizard is doing is summoning the fire, it is not imbued with magical properties. However, if the wizard summoned some sort of hellfire that targeted Superman’s soul, then that would be effective because Superman has no resistances to such an attack.
I remember seeing the Death Battle Goku vs Superman as a kid and the creators there getting it confused. The Power Pole would not hurt Superman simply because it is magic. However, Superman, despite his immense strength, would probably be incapable of using raw power to keep the Power Pole at the same length if it was activated because it expands by means of magic.

He's also weak to red sunlight and he has no special resistance against magic, which basically means he is weak to magic. Kryptonite is not his only weakness. Unless what you meant here is that those other weaknesses aren't canon and are just tacked on in various media, but I'm pretty sure they count as canon at this point.

It depends on the magic, as you stated. If the magic is just being used to create normal physical shit like fire, that's not going to do anything. If it is instead magic that has nothing to do with supes physical toughness, or some kind of reality-altering, it absolutely is a weakness to him.

So the answer is that supes IS weak to magic, he's just not weak to anything and everything created by magic.

It can affect him like any other person that doesn't have a specialized resistance to it. If a wizard cast a spell to turn him into a rabbit it not going to bounce right off him like bullets or lasers.

People just assume that since superman is near invulnerable that nothing can harm him. He has no natural immunity or resistance to magic. Although there are comic book characters who are known to be immune to magic.

He's the greatest and most interesting concept of a 'superhero'; it's just that visual media has not really potrayed him in any interesting story. Man of Steel was trying to grapple the character's core values, in a way successfully too (since there is no Superman in that movie), but many fail to see that the "perfect" character has so much potential.

He is of Justice, Truth and American Way. Every moment there is someone out there needing help, he is making a decision every moment to *not* help. Some day his father will die too, and he cant save him from it (this was one of the many points of MoS many also miss).
What kind of person will be left of all this? Especially someone who is so 'just' and polished Boy Scout imago and mentality?

But no Superman punch hard and listen to soft-rock in flanel.

>this was one of the many points of MoS many also miss
Having pa Kent die of something mundane like a heart attack better conveys that superman isn't omnipotent and that despite being a superhero he can't save everyone. In MoS his father just fucks off into the hurricane to help the dog and then just kind of gives up in some wierd attempt at giving him an honorable and heroic death, which thematically undermines the point. Snyder is a fucking hack

>most interesting concept of a 'superhero'
he really isnt. his power level is too high and his weaknesses are fake. there are no real stakes.
>literally fast enough to thousands of miles per second
>strong enough to move continents/planets worth of mass
>physically impervious.
>laser eyes
>x-ray eyes
>super hearing
>can literally just revive if he sleeps long enough
with speed and invulnerability like that, all of his weaknesses are fake. even if proximity to kryptonite weakens him, theres no reason he couldnt blast into the area from far away and knock the kryptonite miles away. even if he had to "break" his hand doing it, he would easily succeed. he could throw a rod from out of range and knock it away. there are a variety of solutions. all of his "fights" arent at full strength and only exist for spectacle and "tension". no matter what his moral limits are, none of the villains pose a real threat to him. he is literally never in danger.
>>
>>220781927
not BLACK ADAMS
>>
>>220784781
This is a good point

People forget that infallability is very simple. Anybody can be infallible so long as their fast and strong enough
>>
>>220784781
Back in the day they'd usually tell stories about him facing problems that couldn't just be punched and which posed no threat to him personally (he BTFO the Klan and crooked property developers and foreign despots in the early days), and then kryptonite was this extra element in some of the stories where they wanted to tell more conventional 'heroic' stories (in the classical sense).

Comics had this solid baseline of the kind of world they portrayed and the kind of characters that were in them, and then in the 80s and 90s this provided fertile ground for deconstruction. But then the deconstruction became the baseline. The current 'Joker' kind of sucks mainly because there is no baseline of him pulling pranks and forcing others into unwanted boners, only for him to pull out a gun or a knife when shit got real in the deconstruction.

>>220784781
But every 'power level' is only as strong as the writer. In a way every superhero is 'too high' for every single situation they are dropped in. Superman is unique. His weaknesses are there but they're never explored as i stated.
You're literally the reason why he is written badly; you think he is just the 'powers' but don't see the unique dilemma he proposes. How is he still embodying the boy scout attitude? Why is he not wavering? How does he live with his choices every day - every moment he chooses to save one life over another. His weakness is also himself.
