Has any old franchise ever successfully resurrected itself?

The Matrix 4 was a disaster.
Star Wars keeps digging up dead characters like a necromancer with shareholder obligations.
Terminator has rebooted itself so many times Skynet probably got confused and gave up.

>be beloved franchise
>go dormant for 15 years
>announce "return to form"
>hire writers who openly admit they never liked the original
>make everything self aware and ironic
>legacy characters are exhausted failures now
>new cast delivers Marvel tier quips during apocalypse
>fans called toxic for noticing
>movie underperforms
>studio shocked somehow

Has any franchise pulled this off?

Axl just REALLY wanted Dr Pepper, OK?
>>
It kind of works for Terminator, because they're in a time-war in every sequel it's a different future so it's a different SkyNet.

Rocky Balboa/Creed is definitely a solid reboot strain that brought the franchise back in a unique and more kino way.
The first Rocky is a classic, 2-5 range from hammy fun to sloggy dumb, Rocky Balboa is a good movie on a fun premise and the Creed movies manage to be their own thing while still existing in the same universe.
