>Jackson said that a “combination of Warner’s and us have been talking to the younger Tolkien members about the possibility of actually licensing some of the rights to the other books,”

I thought they had rights to the Third Age, not just the Lord of the Rings specifically.
>>
When is enough enough with this shit? Doesn't he want to make his own originals
>>
Fuck yeah they're going to squeeze in two movies worth of girlbossing gay browns before they run out of money and release the third one direct to streaming
>>
>>220803807
iirc that still makes sense, since the silmarillion takes place before the Third Age of Middle Earth.

I actually like the silmarillion and don't want to see a modern rape I MEAN "adaptation"
>>
In the beginning, Ea decided to exert HER power of creation, so he made a bunch of angel type helper people, most of which were gay brown girlbosses, but one angel person was racist and opposed to people loving each other, so he decided to wreck everything.
Ea was sad, but HER power and vision was so great that she foresaw that the resolution of this conflict would yield even greater creations. So she allowed the evil racist angel to fight with the gay brown girlbosses.
Gandalf is a now a gay brown

Did Jackson actually did anything hurtful to Tolkien's canon? Even "The Hobbit" mostly used elements from other Tolkien sources, it was simply stretched into three movies (which wasn't Jackson's decision).
>>
>>220804743
>Even "The Hobbit" mostly used elements from other Tolkien sources

Bull fucking shit it did, all Tolkien told us about the white council fighting Sauron in Mirkwood comprised like a single paragraph in the LotR appendices.
>>
>>220804830
You also have things like Tolkien writing in one of his letters he should've added Legolas into the books, seeing as it makes no sense he isn't present in the story at all.
>>
I'm optimistic we'll see a legacy sequel to the trilogy in our lifetime. Fuck bros, I'm so hyped. Imagine Old King Aragorn slaying orcs. That's so fucking badass.
>>
>>220804868
And what letter is that exactly?
>>
>>220804911

>Fourteen years after the passing of Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began,” the synopsis reads.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/stephen-colbert-writing-lord-of-the-rings-movie-1236546504/

Stephen Colbert is writing it and it’s on Sam’s daughter
>>
>>220804940
That doesn't sound like a legacy sequel at all. More like some weird meta epilogue. I want to see Sauron 3.0 and more awzum fights with our favorite heroes passing the torch.
>>
>>220803746
Someone already made the Silmarilion movie and uploaded it to YouTube like ten years ago.

The harsh language: The author of the post uses a highly offensive slur to describe the Balrog.

Why it's there: On anonymous internet forums like the one you are viewing, users often use harsh, aggressive, or offensive language casually to sound edgy, make a joke, or show disrespect toward a character (in this case, insulting the monster that killed the hero). It does not have a literal meaning here; it is just being used as a crude insult.

Summary: The person is simply trying to remember a piece of fantasy lore. They are saying, "I remember the elf Glorfindel beating that monster, but the monster cheated at the last second by grabbing the elf's hair and pulling him off a cliff with it."

>>
>>220804743
Yes, he added horror elements and millennial grimdark. His changes are what make the movies great specifically because they establish something new and different, but there's no question it's a change to Tolkien.

It's kind of sad how most of the people involved in those films haven't been able to move past them. >Young, useless Frodo
You mean he discerned the essence of a faceless character and gave him a defining depiction for all times
>Aragorn a typical Hollywood reluctant hero doing it all for the love of a good woman
The hair. You mean to criticize his hair. None of what you actually said is a valid criticism or even correct. Reluctance to take the ring is the only thing separating him from Boromir in a positive light, without that his actions could be seen as cowardly rather than wise.
>Comic relief Gimli
The dwarf storyline is extremely grim, no one was asking for more.
>Theoden under a literal spell
That whole arc is flawless and I don't see how it hurts the canon. Still a 10/10 Theoden.
>Quipping warrior Arwen stealing Frodo's strongest moment at the Ford
Liv Tyler instead of another blonde elf was inspired from a filmmaking perspective, but in terms of lore this is valid.
>Saturday morning cartoon villain Denethor
He was fine. Not great, but there was no time to establish the subtle madness from the books. The palantir is the perfect device tying everything together logically, thematically, visually. It's really fantastic work from Jackson.
>Death fakeout after death fakeout in a story that already contained one massive death fakeout.
valid criticism although it was kino, and I can think of several fakeouts. Frodo stabbed by the troll, somehow Gandalf returned, Frodo stung by Shelob. IIRC they all play out the same in the books, I'd say Frodo getting captured isn't a fakeout. Point being, Jackson wasn't out of his lane. The OC sequence is a transplanted houses of healing anyway.
>>
>>220803746
the Silmarillion is not a novel, it's collection of stories. The only way it would work is as series, but Jacksons ego won't allow him to work on series.
it's DOA.

>But now Ilúvatar sat and hearkened, and for a great while it seemed good to him, for in the music there were no flaws. But as the theme progressed, it came into the heart of Melkor to interweave matters of his own imagining that were
not in accord with the theme of Ilúvatar; for he ought therein to increase the power and glory of the part assigned to himself. To Melkor among the Ainur had been given the greatest gifts of power and knowledge, and he had a share in all the gifts of his brethren. He had gone often alone into the void places seeking the Imperishable Flame; for desire grew hot within him to bring into Being things of his own, and it seemed to him that Ilúvatar took no thought for the Void, and he
was impatient of its emptiness. Yet he found not the Fire, for it is with Ilúvatar. But being alone he had begun to conceive thoughts of his own unlike those of his brethren.

Sauron being responsible for the creepiness of Mirkwood has always been lame. The mission to attack his wizard castle there was always lame, probably why Tolkien barely wrote about it. Legolas probably wasn't involved in the events of The Hobbit because he was somewhere else such as Lothlorien or just hanging at Rivendell in the background of Bilbo's first brief stay there. There's no reason to say "and third seat from the left at Elrond's table sat LEGOLAS who would have a role in future events" Maybe he just wasn't an alcoholic like the rest of the Mirkwood elves who got kwabbed by Bilbo Baggins and mustered their army out of embarrassment. Maybe he disagreed with the King's plan and left.

The Silmarillion is largely pre-3rd age. It covers elf lore concerning the origin of the world (pre-1st age) the events of the 1st age (wars of the Noldor against Melkor) and the events of the 2nd age (Sauron's wars of conquest and his eventual fall).

No. You can't adapt this book into a film, it wouldn't make any fucking sense. The Silmarillion is Middle Earth's bible, it's a collection of myths and legends and is essentially the Elvish history of the world. You'd have to adapt it as a mini series covering the different parts of it.

It'd work better as an anime OVA series desu

How is movie Denethor not a fulfillment of Tolkien's concept? It's too obvious that he's in the wrong? They just did the "low functioning king" shtick with Theoden, not long before in movie time. That would be too many low functioning kings. The fact that he ordered a suicide attack on osgiliath is such a minor gripe, it's no different from trying to hold Osgiliath too long or however Faramir got injured in the book. Denethor's infirmity is still messing up Gondor's war effort regardless. His theatrical performance changed nothing in the long run except the tone of the scene, it's totally possible the book character could act that way.
