I was on the fence about Barker but it is swayingly wholesome that his mother designed the One Wish Willow and all its box art, without outside interference and she would email him illustration updates and he'd add notes and so forth. I didn't see any problem here because the implication, baked into the movie's dark-cheeky worldview, is that fucked aspects of the modern world are probably due to a One Willow Butterfly Effect and its ripple effect. For example it could explain a Musk, Trump, Jared Kushner, Eilish, without engaging any partisan woke shit, which the movie thankfully avoids preferring a Rorschach approach by the audience.
An underlining inspiration is the Zoltar machine in Big, it's fun-dark to assume other kids and adults experienced their own misadventures through its wish granting. The billion dollar scene has the retarded charm of Better Off Dead when Cusack's little brother orders a military grade rocket from a mail-order catalog or something and it launches through their shitty home's roof at the end. Another indirect inspiration is Creepshow where the in-movie comic had voodoo dolls and man eating Venus flytraps that actually worked and were delivered to naive or mischievous kids not unlike teen Bear. Fags will try to say "the willow would be all over the internet" but the filmmakers hedged on the debate, and again it's fun to extrapolate why it wouldn't be, that there still exist gurgling pockets of creepy mystery outside normieville and yt, and that those whose wishes were fulfilled were so occupied, destroyed, or mind blown that they stfu. The sensational seeming story of missing or dead anti-gravity and UAP scientists are not the gayest example of a real world parallel.

Why? It's quaint but undeniably iconic now, I thought some coke head A24 staffer had designed it so it's a relief that it has a real Barker family lore that counters "obviously A.I." accusations that cite Late Night with the Devil.
The design could be a lot worse, it could have an ironic wink or nod at "diversity" rather than conjure a Cracker Jack box, 1970s state fair concessions and 1960s popcorn boxes. That Barker is from Alabama and his parents from Texas tips its hat.

I feel like you could get a fuckload of value out of wishing to be an ultra talented all-fields artist WITHOUT being mentally ill.
