Gremlins 2 is way better than the first one
>>220817984kinda depends on the movie you're looking for>they're very different
>>2208179842 is much funnier but it makes no sense as a plot.
>>220818111It's a live action cartoon comedy. It's not supposed to be coherent
Gremlins 2 is frustrating for no other reason than the gremlins themselves are a cool concept.Gremlins 1 had some inherent gravitas that could have easily built into some alt history world building, but was wasted to make a, albeit entertaining, shitpost. It was funny, but they were a genuinely compelling piece of fiction based off of a burgeoning piece of relatively modern mythos.
>>220818187Honestly this. Fey creature born from industrialization. I would have loved to see an alternate history dark comedy where these guys were actually fucking around with WW2 tanks and the climax being they set off one of the atom bombs at the wrong place and the wrong time.
They knew what they were doing.
>>220817984My favorite part that's never mentioned is how everyone gaslit Mr. Futterman into going to therapy even though they all knew the gremlins were real.
>>220818187this is not a lore franchise. not everything needs to be.
>>220818464In the novelization, the mogwai were created to be the ultimate companion by an alien scientist named Dr. Mogtur. Because of their mischevious nature and unstable genes, they threatened the planet so he sent Gizmo, the only one not evil away in a pod.
>>220818392That sounds retarded.
>>220818503That's retarded.
>>220818111It has a plot. Stop the monsters from taking manhatten
>>220818540it is spelled "Manhattan" you illiterate. don't try to correct me again.
>>220818124Cartoons are supposed to be coherent.
>>220818187Jesus you "world building" people are fucking insufferable.
>>220818503>In the novelizationAh yes, the fan fiction novel, written after the fact, by some nobody who had nothing to do with the films.
>>220818503i stand by my original statement ever moreso now.
>>220818187A gremlin is an untraceable glitch in a system, like the thing that makes your windows inexplicably bluescreen once and never happens again. The more you explain the fictional gremlins the more the story strays away from its symbolic origins and what makes it good.
>>220818503Novelizations are often hilariously stupid because the studio never actually gives a fuck about them, so the underpaid writer that gets the job almost always ends up making up a bunch of new shit that is either exponentially more interesting or exponentially worse than the original material.
>>220818660actually those novelizations were often adapted from earlier versions of the script and have scenes and element that were cut from the movie. That's why I liked to read them. Why is everyone here so fucking ignorant?
>>220817984Nah. The first is one of those incredibly rare and precious things- a legitimate horror movie for kids. The christmas setting is also super comfy2 is radical though and again there's really nothing else like it. It's not often that a studio literally begs someone to direct a movie giving them 100% creative carte blanche, and they just go completely wild with it
>>220818863The Total Recall one is pretty rad, it has this elaborate backstory about how the aliens seeded the human race and built the Mars reactor as a high stakes IQ test which wipes out the solar system if we fuck it up
My favorite line in the film
Rambo Gizmo was so delightful to view. Turning into a hard ass like that made us all happy.
>>220818424He was crazy. There were no gremlins.>>220818933The geek possibly raped her while she was drunk.
>>220819012So some hack wrote a novelization of Total Recall which was itself an adaptation of a PKD short story? Why not just release the original PKD short story collection as a movie-tie-in?
>>220820499>films used to be shot in 35mm by professional cinematographersI want to go back
Gremlins 2 is one of the greatest films ever made. If you disagree, you’re a huge nigger faggot.
>>220818187Imagine thinking this critically about both Gremlins films. Fucking KEK.
>>220817984They are both 10/10 films but the original is better, it has horror, drama and romance as well as comedy and is ultimately the more satisfying experience. Gremlins 2 is just a feature length Looney Tunes cartoon, which is great and all, but not as well-rounded of a film.
>>220818565>proofreading on 4chan
>>220818078This. Non mouthbreathers can differentiate movies by intent and genre.
>>220818863>actually those novelizations were often adapted from earlier versions of the script and have scenes and element that were cut from the movie. That's why I liked to read them. Why is everyone here so fucking ignorant? The dark knight rises plane scene feom the official novelization is kino and expanded the lore. Its basically the new testimant of baneposting. >whoa, did he just say what i think he said?>if i could get the 411 on bane it would ve quite the feather for my cap
the female gremlin sexually assaulting that human man and nobody cared?
>>220818933>2 is radical though >radicalIf you use this word as a positive adjective its time to schedule a colon screening
I wonder if it's true that they stopped Gizmo from turning into a gremlin as a regular part of its life cycle just to sell toys
>>220818187Based Joe Dante dabbing on faggots like you
Something tells me Gremlins 3 will be good. Why? I don't know but I feel it in my plums.
>>220817984Gremlins 2 feels like it was made by reddit, too much 4th wall breaking
>>220822529picardo? I think that was picardo
>>220823142Yea, but Reddit is gay as fuck and Gremlins 2 is not, so, eat a nigger dick.
>>220818392Check out Shadow in the Cloud for a "serious" gremlin movie.
>>220817984It's better in a way that is also worse
>NOOOO, YOU DON'T GET IT, THE FILM WAS SUPPOSED BE BAD, THAT MEANS I HAVE TO LIKE IT!
Changing this guy from a villain to a lovable goofball was the best decision they made. It needed more Phoebe Cates though, I really feel like she was underutilized her whole career. Especially after rewatching Drop Dead Fred as an adult and realizing just how good she is in it.
>>220817984far fewer kids in this one, instant winner
>>220823364I don't want a "serious" gremlin movie. I just want a comedy horror or at least dark comedy. Mischief, mayhem, and a touch of dr. strangelove, that's all I'm really asking.Hell, just give me Dr. Strangelove with gremlins, that shit writes itself
>>220822540Seemed to me like he was just using "radical" to mean drastic or extreme, not as a positive
