Why was everyone wanting him to get the throne?
>no morals
>dumb
>impulsive
>boring
>no reason to claim the throne besides personal gain, unlike Daenerys and Jon snow who wanted to make society better
>>
he was cool
>>
>>220822954
He was the previous King's brother and disputed that the King's children were bastards meaning the throne was his. His claim was legitimate even if he was a dick. He was such a dick that more people were supportive of his younger brother taking the throne despite him having no legitimate claim to it whatsoever.
>>
>>220822954
He was the king who cared, now go back to sleep Renly
>>
>>220822954
nobody wanted him on the throne dude, did you even watch the show? he had the right claim, that forces some ppl to support him

>Daenerys and Jon snow who wanted to make society better
Daenerys and Jon snow fucked everything up and went insane despite their gay excuses
Stannis 'Norwood' fucked everything up and went insane despite his gay excuses
Bobby B ruled over decades of peace that he carved out of hard won battles with his own two arms

The True King's True Son is the True King. Give it to Gendry, the guys who don't want to be King make the best ones (they really misunderstood that in giving it to Bran the Buckbroken)
>>
>>220822954
He was Ned 2.0, the honorable fool in the world of cunning niggas
>>
Unironically just having a character be consistent and determined will always gain them fans

Weirdly this is why many modern villains have more fans than protagonists who seem more flippant
>>
>>220822954
In the books, he has strong, rigid even, morals, is very smart and calculating, with a dry wit. Just absolutely kino all around. The series never got him right and eventually assassinated his character.
>Lord Seaworth is a man of humble birth, but he reminded me of my duty, when all I could think of was my rights. I had the cart before the horse, Davos said. I was trying to win the throne to save the kingdom, when I should have been trying to save the kingdom to win the throne.
>>
>>220822954
He isn't dumb

Bad bait.
>>
>>220822954
shit bait, Stannis almost takes King's Landing even after Tyrion's napalm trap destroys half his forces

He was the law and order candidate.

Idealists are the worst.
Pol Pot was also idealist.

>In the books, he has strong, rigid even, morals, is very smart and calculating, with a dry wit.
In the books he's a smart, dour man plagued by schizo moments that cannot be called morals, more like autism like adherence to self-imposed baseless rules he makes no effort to analyze and therefore misapplies in interpreting his allies' behaviour.
Granted, this is more the result of gurm being a moral midget than something he meant to write in. Ned is much the same.

All lies btw.

Wtf is this targ propaganda on my notice board

Bobby B let his kingdom go to shit, allowing Littlefinger to bankrupt the realm. He left Varys alive to scheme unopposed, he let Cersei and Jaime cuckold him under his nose, he never punished Tywin or his dogs making sure the Martell remain forever discontent, he did nothing about the growing resentment between Stannis and Renly, he spared Greyjoys after their first chimpout, he let Joffrey become what he became. He basically laid the groundwork for war and then dragged his best friend into the viper nest and bailed on the whole mess by dying retardedly.
>>
>>220822954
He seemed to have the most legitimate claim from a technical standpoint. He seemed cool untill letting firecrotch manipulate him. D and b did my boy dirty

The kikes in charge of the show hated him which made people want to support him. It's not that deep, dude.
>>
>>220822954
He was
in the right
defended the Wall
wanted to defend the realm against the evil from the north at all cost
followed a god/magic that is actually real and useful

he was BASED beyond belief
>>
>>220823127
Why would I read a series of books that will never get a proper ending?
>>
>>220823046
Corrupt people didn't want him on the throne because they knew he would likely execute them all. Ned knew he was Robert's rightful hair, even Renly knew, he didn't care because he had more support from the Tyrells who just wanted power.
It wasn't that he didn't have support because he was unpopular, but because he was just. Kinda like how nobles didn't like Egg because his reforms benefited the commoners. Had Stannis being named King, he would have executed Cersei, perhaps send her boys to the Wall, execute most of the Small Council as well.
>>
>>220825475
Whenever people say Robert was a good King, thy are just mistaking not having wars with having a good rule. The crown was deeply in debt and there was no much preparations for the upcoming winter. Not to say, he never actually ruled, so any good thing made was due to Arryn, who still couldn't get rid of the Lannisters and they put all of their spies in KL, next to Littlefinger's and Varys'. Robert knew about all of this and he didn't care.
>>
He was legitimate enough, and he was quite level-headed, except for the whole fire cult bullshit, but that seemed to be born more out of desperation than anything.
He is the only one of the pretenders I would support as king.
Dunno about the show tho, I dodged that shit.
>>
>>220822954
This bait is almost believeable.
>>
>>220822954
For Stannis it was purely a matter of principle, and he was just abiding by the law to an obsessive level.
>>
>>220827289
It's also clearly an ego thing. He's trying to become king out of duty, yes, but also because of his childhood complexes and insecurities over being second best to Robert all his life. He wants people to love and respect him. But that's in the books although he does seem a bit selfish in the show.
>>
>>220825576
Was this made before George confirmed that a lot of the show's stupid shit was actually in his notes? Shireen's burning and HOLD DA NOOR specifically?
>>
>>220828409
Maybe, it's not like Stannis burning Shereen is that out of the question. Doesn't make sense the way it went down in the show and obviously he won't burn her in the exact same circumstances since she's not even with him on his march but Martin didn't write all that stuff about sacrifice and choice in Stannis's arc for no reason. Him being tempted to burn Edric is a prelude to a much more personal sacrifice, he dreams about the burning crown consuming him and there's that whole story about Nissa Nissa and Azor Ahai. He will probably burn Shireen to save the world from the Others, not to get his army through some light snow.

There's a difference between what was effectively issuing war bonds and getting in really deep with people who can credibly support a revolt. His finance minister was actively undermining him.
>>
>>220822954
it's disappointing how little stannis x davos fanfiction there's in ao3. specially because, for some fucking reason, 1/3 of it is written in fucking chinese????
>>
>>220822954
He was lawful neutral. The throne was legally his, he had no choice but to claim it.
>>
>>220822954
>>no morals
Hes highly Conscientious and has a strong sense of justice. This drive alone makes him leagues better than degenerate rakes or power hungry freaks who only want to enrich themselves
>dumb
Hes not at all. Very intelligent
>impulsive
Not at all. Completely sober and even tempered, although he can be stubborn.
>boring
Hes very dour and kind of a stick in the mud, but his stern sense of fair justice, even if its harsh, makes him more engaging than random noble #173 who just abuses their power to fulfil base Carnel desires at the detriment of the people they are meant to govern
>no reason to claim the throne
He has the one and only legal claim. Since Robert has no legit children, the crown automatically passes to his next oldest brother which would be Stannis.
>>
>>220822954
it's his by rights. Mayhaps you should bend the knee and end this mummer's farce

Excerpt from Sansa VIII in Clash of Kings

Those who had changed their allegiance during the battle needed only to swear fealty to Joffrey, but the ones who had fought for Stannis until the bitter end were compelled to speak. Their words decided their fate. If they begged forgiveness for their treasons and promised to serve loyally henceforth, Joffrey welcomed them back into the king's peace and restored them to all their lands and rights. A handful remained defiant, however. "Do not imagine this is done, boy," warned one, the bastard son of some Florent or other. "The Lord of Light protects King Stannis, now and always. All your swords and all your scheming shall not save you when his hour comes."

"Your hour is come right now." Joffrey beckoned to Ser Ilyn Payne to take the man out and strike his head off. But no sooner had that one been dragged away than a knight of solemn mien with a fiery heart on his surcoat shouted out, "Stannis is the true king! A monster sits the Iron Throne, an abomination born of incest!"

"Be silent," Ser Kevan Lannister bellowed.

The knight raised his voice instead. "Joffrey is the black worm eating the heart of the realm! Darkness was his father, and death his mother! Destroy him before he corrupts you all! Destroy them all, queen whore and king worm, vile dwarf and whispering spider, the false flowers. Save yourselves!" One of the gold cloaks knocked the man off his feet, but he continued to shout. "The scouring fire will come! King Stannis will return!"

Joffrey lurched to his feet. "I'm king! Kill him! Kill him now! I command it." He chopped down with his hand, a furious, angry gesture . . . and screeched in pain when his arm brushed against one of the sharp metal fangs that surrounded him. The bright crimson samite of his sleeve turned a darker shade of red as his blood soaked through it. "Mother!" he wailed.

With every eye on the king, somehow the man on the floor wrested a spear away from one of the gold cloaks, and used it to push himself back to his feet. "The throne denies him!" he cried. "He is no king!"

Cersei was running toward the throne, but Lord Tywin remained still as stone. He had only to raise a finger, and Ser Meryn Trant moved forward with drawn sword. The end was quick and brutal. The gold cloaks seized the knight by the arms. "No king!" he cried again as Ser Meryn drove the point of his longsword through his chest.

Without laws there is anarchy.
The realm disregarded the laws, and descended to anarchy.
Pretty straightforward 2bhonest

Man the first three books were so good, pity the last two were bloated and boring

it was 100% rightfully his throne, only Ned had a claim otherwise because he helped win the war and he was dead. Everyone else were usurpers

very true, its painful being a fan of a series that doesn't get an ending and i'm already a HxH fan. At least Samurai Jack got an ending even if it was not so great, One Piece WILL end.

if Robert's heirs were his blood I guarantee Stannis would not have waged war

he was honorable, but he was also strict and would spend his reign hanging nobles
