Alot of tards on this board bitch and moan about "historical accuracy" in every single movie that comes out.Which do you think are actually valid complaints? If any?I think these are all retarded>They speak too modern (Literal not a single film can do this accurately)>Nitpicking era/battle authenticity to a pedantic degree (The scotts didn't wear kilts)>"Muh accuracy" over a good story (That didn't happen therefore bad)
>still saying "muh" in 2026
>>220825148>>Which do you think are actually valid complaints? For me it’s no>No casual racism treated as fact >No casual sexism treated as fact>No prayer or church going
>>220825148Intent matters. I can tolerate certain creative liberties, but not when they're done with the purpose of pandering to progressives and minorities.
Contemporary art transports contemporary values, it's very difficult to try otherwise. Hence no "historical" movie can be accurate, it can merely convey a sense of authenticity that makes it believable. The Romans had values that are totally different from us, it would be a challenge to convey that and make the modern audience sympathize at the same time. But you can at least dress actoes up to look like authentic Romans. Modern films don't even attempt that. Maybe some would argue that this is actually the honest approach in a way.
>>220825148Deliberately trying to make something historically inaccurate because of current messages and views is worse, though.
>>220825703>The Romans had values that are totally different from us, it would be a challenge to convey that and make the modern audience sympathize at the same time.HBO's Rome did this quite well IMO
>>220825148Curious how you don't even name the biggest problem (inserting blacks in classic European settings)Also Ridley Scott can stick his color grading up his ass
>>220825831>Curious how you don't even name the biggest problem (inserting blacks in classic European settings)Because I only listed the complaints I thought were retarded. That complaint is valid
>>220825703>values that are totally different Eggers tries to portray this, to some success I think. Witches, the supernatural, etc are taken seriously as in universe facts of life, phenomena that real pre modern people would have believed in. One of the things I enjoy most about his stuff
>>220825148Egytpt doesn't have Mexico filterIt's not historical accuracy Ridley is simply retarded
>>220825148things weren't more yellow back in napoleon's day
>>220825148im fine with changes if they are done tastefully. the ones people complain about are the insulting ones done intentionally to provoke a response
>>220825148you cant have american accents or black people in historical dramas, unless it's set in the US or africa. basic rule. break that 1 basic rule, and your film is worthless
>>220826014Were you there?
>>220826014>>220826036See, these are perfect examples of retarded complaints. It's a fucking movie, it's supposed to look epic, not be some autistic 1:1 recreation
Maybe im stupid but I dont think ive ever seen a movie and then thought about the historical accuracy of it all that much, or even at all really, and ive seen 1000's. I dont really watch biopics though which might explain it a bit. I mean i loved raging bull and its facsinating to know the irl Jake LaMotta asked his ex wife "was i that bad?" and she said "you were worse" but idk i just go with the flow, i have read copious amounts of history books but it just doesnt bother me when directors maybe take liberties and alter events. Theres more that a few documentaries ive seen that i question a bit more.
>>220826188>I dont think ive ever seen a movie and then thought about the historical accuracy of it all that muchBecause you're not supposed to.It's only become a thing for losers to feel smart now that they have the internet and can Google everything
>>220825981Eggers is a good counterexample because apart from The Witch, his desire to remain authentic in every aspect strangles the storytelling. There's this lifelessness to his later movies as if he's afraid to venture too far from the authenticity.
>>220826073So it's gotta look like it takes place in an ocean of piss to be "epic"?
>>220826455>ocean of pissI think the word you're looking for is Arid?
>>220826455So you would rather it look like National Geographic?
