One thing that annoys me about this show is how the writers seem to be ignoring the passage of time. They've obviously been there for years now just by looking at how much Ethan has grown, but they act like it's only been a few months. What do these people do all day? Do they just twiddle their thumbs all day and play solitaire? There's no excuse for them to sideline the "catch a monster" plot when these people have absolutely nothing to do all day. Nobody has school or jobs to fill their days. It's a tiny town filled with like 20-30 people and they act like Boyd is managing an entire city with a population of 5000 who has a constant stream of things to worry about and get distracted by. Also they haven't built anything since they got there besides the radio tower. No other shelters, structures, traps, moats, reinforcements, etc. They should have an entire fucking farm by now with a large supply of bred livestock, unless things are not able to reproduce in Fromsville which the shitty writers never mention. Also nobody wants to adventure into the forest even though it's been proven again and again that there are untapped resources out there (animals, plants, shelter, talismans, etc.) and possibly a way out (lighthouse). They've also done zero experiments in the world such as with faraway trees and other things. No rope experiments to see where a tree goes, etc. They also haven't even setup any education or training programs for the kids or to help people survive. No regular town meetings to discuss plans or document findings, no map making, etc. The writers don't seem to realize that boredom is a powerful motivator for people, and is even enough sometimes to make people to outright ignore their fear of dying. What a joke.

I just downloaded the episode and I'm 30 seconds in.The writing has fallen into such a pattern of cliche autopilot I can see it now. I'm predicting Jade will take Boyd to Colony House, they will remove the junk and there will be a wall there. Jade will panic and say "no no no it's all wrong there's supposed to be a door here" and Boyd will say "it was a drug induced dream". And then in the final minutes of the episode something will click and Jade will take a sledgehammer to the wall, revealing a tunnel there.I'm going to watch the rest of the episode now. It finally clicked for me what's so fundamentaly bad about this: nothing that matters happens in an episode.For exemple: other shows with a central mystery and lesser mysteries that derive from it, we have a criminal of the week (Fringe) or we focus on one character and how their misfortunes in life brought them there (Lost), while we have a B plot about the season's or show's central issue.This show just has half a dozen of people pushing the central mystery (what's going on and how do we leave) from different angles in such a slow pace that becomes frustrating to the viewer. They can't have an "arrival of the week" because it's only 10 episodes seasons, they can't properly explore the characters in interesting ways (flashbacks, side quests) because the writers are dogshit. Boyd's arrival and becoming leader being an exception. Imagine if we had one of those for Sara, one for Kenny, Donna, etc, instead of 5 minutes long dialogues about nothing that goes nowhere and bores the shit out of me.There is such a thing as slow shows and movies that are carried solely by interesting dialogue between characters, but the writers here are clearly not talented enough for that.

It seems like most of the work is done on hiding clues that connect to each other in ways that aren't immediately apparent unless you do a re-watch. It's a different way to do a show when it's consistent, doesn't mean that its bad, just means you are used to shows being some kind of way.
