> The writer and director of Backrooms, premiering May 29 in theaters, credited producer Osgood Perkins for being “a really great mentor figure” while working with his Phobos banner on the film, which is adapted from Parsons’ 2022 web series.

> “When we started production up in Vancouver, I was working very closely, literally in the same office with Osgood Perkins,” he told DiscussingFilm. “So, he’s been a really great mentor figure in a number of ways, in that it’s very much the crew that he and Chris Ferguson put together over a number of years. And so, I think there’s a lot of secondhand resources I’ve been able to lean on while working on this thing.”
> After an X user posted that “we all know Kane Parsons absolutely didn’t direct this movie,” Duplass responded to dismiss the accusation about his Backrooms director.
> “Hmmm, with all due respect I don’t remember seeing you on set,” the actor wrote in his post Tuesday. “When I was there, Kane was 100% in control. More so than many directors 3x his age.
> He had a lot of the same crew as Perkins and they worked from the same location.
Lol Zoomers can't make shit,Kane Parsons let a bunch of veteran directors take over his film and everyone is noticing.

4chan directed this movie
>>
Doesn't matter. He is credited as director. Kid has his career cut out for him going forward, with or without shadow directors.
>>
>>220837404
Millennials are too internet addicted to accomplish anything, I say this as a millennial…our generation needs to snap out of it. We are decent with concepts but not so much on execution. I shouldn’t be wasting my time posting here. Anyway, good for this zoomer kid for applying himself and doing actual work. I wish him continued success.
>>
>>220837664
they only put him in the director's chair to get street cred from fans of the web shorts and sell them a nice fairytale story.

Dude got the ultimate hollywood push and I'd like to know why a random 20 year old got this big of an opportunity

He even got 12 years a slave man and the norwegian chick who are two high caliber actors, really this doesn't seem suspicious or weird to anyone?
>>
>>220838043
Of course it's weird and unnatural, but the reason is not yet known. I think I remember hearing he's from a moderately wealthy family, so best guess is one of them had a connection in the industry.

so does daniel day lewis' faggot son but nobody is ever gonna hire him again because anemone was a piece of shit and flopped hard.
>>220838043
kane is clearly related to someone or someone at A24 has a kid who watched the short film, the suit saw that it has 75 million views and thought "damn there's money to be made"
all those prolific names have kids who waste time on youtube and are aware of backrooms, which is why they jumped on board
>>
Why is this board so obsessed with zoomers? It's honestly embarrassing
>>
>>220838167
Because zoomers are obsessed with being zoomers and go on about uncs (which is any gen that isn't zoomer). It's a chicken and egg thing, which came first doesn't matter anymore.
>>
>>220838226
Nobody actually talks like that except millenitards parodying zoomers btw. This is the same shit as "fr fr no cap" which got memoryholed already cause it was an astroturfed meme.
At most you'll get Gen Alpha saying some shit like that, but they're literal children.
>>
I bet that fag tried to groom Kane into coming to his fag orgies
>>
>>220838308
hardly grooming, more like outright prostituting.

I have to deal with your shitsmeared brocc-haired generation all the time and they absolutely do talk and sound and behave exactly like the memes. The younger ones have even started dismissing the slightly older ones using "unc" now, with a literal five year age gap and they talk about each other like they're aliens. You're the first 100% brainrotted from birth by the internet generation and it shows.

Too late, Twitter and Reddit are already acting like only genz is now allowed to make movies and as if this movie was made by genz only. Ignoring the part where boomers/millenials funded it, make up for most of the crew, the actors the co directors , writers etc.
>>
>>220837607
He's been directing movies for decades.
>>
>>220838078
His only familial connection to any kind of entertainment industry is that his dad (apparently, because nobody knows who he is or what, exactly, he worked on) did "VFX for video games," and that's about it. It's so tenuous that to say he got a "boost" from that, is like saying the YouTuber Degenerocity's kid is going to be a nepobaby because he was a background extra in 12 Years a Slave.

there's nothing weird or unnatural about it. He proved himself with shorts on youtube and also the concept is very popular. Spending 10m on a movie like that (and some other millions for marketing) carries zero risks for A24. You're all willingly retarded about this whole thing
>>
>>220843880
>Spending 10m on a movie like that (and some other millions for marketing) carries zero risks for A24.
Well one risk is having an inexperienced and potentially immature director fuck up the shoot. It's not even a matter of talent or maturity, dealing with a 20-50 people professional on a schedule crew is kind of a step up from shooting a VFX short with high school friends.
>>
>>220843880
Literally no one has ever gotten an opportunity like this, no matter how good their short was or their previous movie was or how popular a concept was
This is a first and it's odd that it happened to a teenage zoomer who's only experience was using Blender

Of course, this doesn't seem weird to you because you're a shill and you want to protect your little butt boi, but it is quite odd, so there's definitely something else going on behind the scenes that most people are not fully aware of but it will come out eventually
>>
>>220843993
You sound bitter, ngl bro
>>
>>220844018

>>
>>220844061
>the biggest opportunity that no one in hollywood besides the ultimate nepo hires have ever gotten
wtf are you talking about? they gave him a $10 million budget which is nothing these days and they literally played it safe by hiring “the backrooms guy”. he’s a huge youtuber. they took less of a risk on him than almost anyone else they’ve ever hired to direct.
>>
>>220843974
>>220843993
buy a camera and start shooting shit. You will never know if you are really good by writing bitter posts on 4channel. 80m + domestic opening btw
>>
Unirionically, why are zoomers bragging about a movie based on an internet meme?
It's like thinking you've made it because you directed the Battleship movie.

The backrooms got less interesting as a concept when people started adding monsters and "lore" to it, btw.
>>
>ACKrooms
>>
>>220844108
It's part of their current twitter culture war where they want to kill everyone over 29
>>
fede alvarez uploaded short on youtube and was scouted not long after that. David Sandberg was also making short movies on youtube and then he got an offer to direct a feature. Those guys who directed talk to me also came from youtube. There's nothing weird about it
>>
>>220844108
The weird part is how they talk about the movie in the "we", "us", "our" form as if they made the actual movie. Even with 100 million dollar budget most of them would still just be doomscrolling all day
>>
>>220843993
>Literally no one has ever gotten an opportunity like this, no matter how good their short was
actually, that's not the truth, Ellen >>220844178
>>
>>220837404

>>
>>220844186
Yeah, it's weird. Millennials are more likely to throw their own under the bus, unless they actually do something of merit.
"Millennial film maker" Max Landis was more or less immediately pinned by Millennials as being an annoying fake faggot (even if a couple of his movies are alright, actually). Meanwhile Robert Eggers is celebrated for making great films, but no one cares how old he is.
If either of those guys was a zoomer, you'd be seeing constant gloating threads, simply because a *zoomer* made a movie. get this, guys. A Zoomer did something...

Not beating the generation of narcissists allegations, I'm just saying.
>>
>>220837849
>his concepts
sorry I don't really follow backrooms and havent seen any of his youtube videos, but isn't just a series of rooms with SCP entities in them sometimes? then there's like a few cryptids that wander. did he actually write anything? I thought it was just a big amalgamation of internet memes that he wholesale lifted from imageboards
>>
>>220844088
>>220844213
Fede Alvarez nor David Sandberg got 11 producers among them being three hollywood big wig filmmakers, they didn't get 2 oscar winning and nominated actors as their lead, nor did they get the marketing push that this movie is getting

So yeah, it's a first and that's why is suspicious and dishonest and I'm not going to sit here and pretend the zoomie totally did it all on his own and this isn't some kind of industry plant or hollywood manufactured experiment

Neither of them are "high caliber." They're mostly art house actors and not even close to big names, not discounting their performances and talent. If he had even a B-lister on the cast list than I'd agree but most zoomers seeing this movie only probably know the dudeweedlmao guy in the film cause he played a Targaryen guy in the latest GOT spinoff show.

>>
>>220844963
The fact that they're Oscar tier actors means they're high caliber among hollywood by default, meaning they're not exactly "easy" to get
>>
>>220845031
youtube who only made blender animations, mind you, at least Curry Barker made skits and shorts and they all already looked professional, so he actually does have experience, this guy had none

They are not beating the allegations. I wish they would just admit that this was a Hollywood experiment and that they noticed that Zoomers don't have any huge figures and wanted to groom Kane into that figure.

>>220846930
Is partially right except the issue is the space is fucked in regards to time. The actual backrooms itself is static once a room is built. You can find your way back to any entrance if you're aware of it like the Null Zone under Clark's Ottoman Empire or the Threshold that Async made. The issue is you can suddenly be shunted forward in time and in the case of Tench, webseries character that got separated during an exploratory task, found that the Backrooms changed since the few months he skipped were filled with Async building new walls and rooms around the Threshold. To him it feels like shit changed.

>>220845036
Not really. Jennifer Tilly and Nicolas Cage are Oscar-nominated, and they're in plenty of slop. What did Chiwetel Ejiofor do after 12 Years a Slave? He played a wizard in a Marvel movie and did a couple of voice roles. Renate Reinsve is Oscar-nominated, but she's Norwegian and trying to break into Hollywood, so she isn't going to get a big role with an acclaimed director right out of the gate.

An Oscar nomination increases an actor's prestige, but prestige and market value aren't always the same thing. Studios may respect you more after an Oscar nomination, but they'll only pay significantly more if they believe your name helps sell tickets. .
