Yeah, shit hits the fan often, but it's interspersed with mundane moments, like picking his kid up from school, taking care of his sick brother, dating, working out, etc.
This shows that even though his life is filled with insane shit, it's still intertwined with the mundanity of routine that is part of everyone's life.
It gives the show a more grounded and real feeling to it.
