so can we all agree the hate is performative, right?
it's no masterpiece (as someone who has actually seen it) but it's definitely creative and fresh and saying it's the worst thing ever is just being dishonest, it's just a good/ok movie depending on who you ask
not saying you can't have your opinions or that it's flawless (first half is better in my opinion) but yeah, I think some people need to chill the fuck up
>>
>>220863307
It's good but zoomer faggotry taints the experience.
>>
It's definitely well directed and the set design is good. Everything else is serviceable. I wouldn't call it a bad movie but I will also be forgetting about it in t-minus 7 days.
>>
>>220863342
zoomer faggotry is meaningless word salad that nobody except you can define for some arbitrary reason
do you have actual criticism? because I suspect you didn't even watch it
>>
>>220863307
You stole a stupid idea from 4chen and made a shitty video about it. Leave us alone please.
>>

Everything is performative in 2026
>>
>>220863404
you can't steal something that's not claimed by anyone as their property
>and made a shitty video about it
no it's a full-length feature film
>Leave us alone
nobody is forcing you to reply to the threads about things you are supposedly not interested in, noobody holds you at gunpoint and nobody came knocking down at your door, you are here entirely by your own will
>>220863419
I don't see how those statements are mutually exclusive or incoherent, it's fresh and definitely creative at least in my opinion, I see no objections to that
>>
>>220863382
It's two words, zoomer and faggotry, zoomer being a generation of retards born into an always online world and faggotry meaning retarded hijinks/thoughts/way of being.

It's a millennial idea marred by zoomer faggotry, like having async, the SCP clone, instead of leaving it a vaguely explain mystery. The fact that the monsters there aren't guided by any sort of logic and exist there because zoomers are scared by everything.

The zoomer world is a copy of a copy of a copy each with less definition than the last.
>>
>>220863485
>zoomer being a generation of retards
I shan't be reading the rest, nothing of what you said is relevant and you clearly didn't watch the movie which makes it even more hilarious
this is exactly the kind of perfomative hate I'm talking about
>>
>>220863307
It’s fine. Some people wanna hate it because they associate YouTube with shit quality and the writer/director is an elevated YouTuber. Some people wanna act like it’s the next big thing in horror because they love the analog horror thing so much and they like the novelty of a young director. But really it was just fine.
>>
>>220863501
Ok zoomer. It's the greatest original film in the world and without flaws.

They fucking nicked an /x/ meme that someone else created, and has been regurgitated ad nauseum for years. Whoever originally posted it is a retard for putting their ideas out there on an anonymous image board, because that’s basically like leaving your wallet on a NYC subway, but my point still stands.
>>
>>220863808

Non-ambitious visuals, terrible character development and the feeling of 1/4 of the story being presented before credits roll. My friend said it was like watching episode 1 of a Netflix show and I couldn't agree more. As much as some people hate the idea of backrooms "levels" and Kane's series not explicitly having them, I feel like this would've benefited from it at least from a visual standpoint because watching the same piss yellow wallpaper ad nauseum didn't frighten me one bit. This really needed another 30 minutes for Clark to truly descend into madness along with more Robert and Kat screen time. As it stands he's normal one scene and the next we see of him he's gone nutszo. I also think it's funny some people (fans usually) try to convince people the movie's 2 deep 4 u but everything is explained in-movie quite well, multiple times at that, and if you've played/watched Silent Hill you basically got the exact gist of it. 5.5/10 movie, not horrible but nothing profound either.
>>
The story of how this movie came to be is extremely interesting and impressive, plus the movie itself is good, so of course you joyless cunts can't help but seethe about it. You don't enjoy anything.

zoomers will tell you otherwise but 4chan did not used to be like this. it used to be quite creative, spawning things like the backrooms. now it's completely devoid of anything worthwhile at all because everyone has become too jaded and irony poisoned to show themselves to be even slightly positive about anything.
>>
>>220863990
>but 4chan did not used to be like this
I repeat myself over and over but oldfags were cut from a different cloth. They were NERDS, and now there are no more nerds hence zoomers.
>>
>>220863307
No, I'm a zoomer and I think it deserves the hate. Gen Z and alpha horror is embarrassing.
>>

they just stole the idea from a 4chan post on /x/
>>
>>220864427

>>
>>220863485
Meh. There's nothing new under the sun... every piece of media that exists has influences from something that came before it. There are influences from LOST in the Backrooms YouTube series: Async = Dharma Initiative, messing with the unknown (Backrooms or Island) causing real world catastrophe (earthquake or plane crash). Backrooms kinda scratches that same itch.
>>
>>220864601
Except it wasn't shitty like Slenderman.
>>
Reminder that generations are literally a psyop. The Greatest Generation comes from WWII hagiography, and Baby Boomers were just a useful demographic term for the baby boom after the war.
>>
this is a movie from a guy who self-admittedly has seen very few movies nor read many books and people call it a derivative ripoff.
>>
>>220863307
It was a simple story set in an original environment. It did nothing groundbreaking as a film, it was shot well and the actors gave solid performances.
>>
>>220864710
A generation that was born in the digital panopticon is markedly different from one that wasn't. Just because the cutoffs are fuzzy doesn't mean generation labels don't have their use.

Zoomer.
>>
>>220864691
Yeah, but no generation has done less with existing material.
>>
>>220864691
>There's nothing new under the sun... every piece of media that exists has influences from something that came before it.
So what? It's a meaningless statement really, pretty much anything could be reduced to "good vs evil" and shit like that, so what? Do we just stop producing art altogether and live with things made thousands of years ago because they just keep self-referencing over and over again?
The whole point is finding specifically the arrangement of those tropes that appeals exclusively to you. Monster following someone in a mysterious place brings nothing new to the table, but the point is everything else that's surrounding it. If you think the concept of backrooms are cool for whatever reason then who cares if it's an old trope, you certainly didn't see the older thing and even if you did nothing prevents you from enjoying this as well.

What's up with this closed mentality anyway?

>>
>>220865062
I'm also a zoomer anon, to be fair I'm on the early zoomer side so I got a glimpse of internet before the iphone and twitter but yeah, that's not an excuse to have such a mentality where you think nothing new could ever be made ever again (a thesis our species keeps proving wrong time and time again)
>>
>>220863808
>Whoever originally posted it is a retard for putting their ideas out there on an anonymous image board, because that’s basically like leaving your wallet on a NYC subway, but my point still stands.

This is going to have a massive drop off after Sunday. No one's talking about it unlike obsession. This kid is going back to YouTube, he could never ever replicate a percent of this "success". He only sold some seats cause backrooms is a literal meme and Le two year old baby director how inspiring advertising. I don't even think anyone genuinely likes this thing,. Everyone said iron lung was good too, YouTube toxic positivity slop setting a bad trend. Being a YouTube does not mean that you can direct a studio film. A24 really met this dude and his vfx connected daddy and just saw thought cash product. This will never get a sequel they won't be able to replicate the success.
For fucks sake, both actors are supposed to be Americana, why the fuck do they both have thick Europoor accents? Fuck this soulless, Adderall popping creature, he couldn't come up with a handful of original ideas given even with the money, right drugs studio backing and money. This shit is embarrassing.

Why would you retards find movies to watch that are under a 10/10? The point of watching shit online is to always find the best movie and anything that falls below your expectations (a 10/10) you just drop it, and move onto the next movie. Any movie you thoroughly enjoy should be a 10/10 in your heart.

Im not sure that makes sense, and yes I know what objective/subjective ratings are, but if you're purposely going around looking for anything besides a 10/10 masterpiece in your mind, you're wasting your fucking time.

look, in in reality, sure, you're right. But the penultimate - in the way society sees media, and the way humans consume media, is that everyone protects what they enjoy and rejects that which they hate, which is the cut and dry, bones-of-the-meat truth. Objectivity is how society is polite in their rating of media. Subjectivity is how humans say "FUCK YOU WHAT I LIKE IS GOOD AND ANYTHING ELSE IS TRASH" without feeling like children.

Its not about originality its about how the story is pieced together in such a way that it's captivating from beginning to end - without giving you a break / pause to judge it or ask questions about it.

Why is this so hard for you niggers to understand?
>>
The backrooms is OBJECTIVELY a good movie. SUBJECTIVELY to people it could be dogshit, but by the standards we have today across all media platforms, at the most basic level, everything is average / slightly above / slightly below average. If you tally all the things that make a movie up, objectively speaking there are more ticks on the boxes of average / slightly above average than there are average / slightly below average, which makes it "good".

Its that shrimple.

Ok, so you start out at 1---[5]----10 and move it back and forth according to all the barometers that make up a movie.
Acting
Set Pieces
Story
Original
Soundtrack
Etc etc, if each one of those is bad, you move the rating down until its either a 1 or a 10. That is OBJECTIVELY how you do the most basic of ratings. SUBJECTIVELY you think its trash, No need for a fucking rating. I was simply asking why on a subjective level you niggers watch dogshit on purpose.

Is it to feel superior? Is it hipster millennial / zoomer bullshit? You should always try to find 10/10's. Watching something for the experience to see what people were talking about - is also a thing, but you're doing that on an objective level.
>>
>>220866652

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that, and guess what, my subjective "( you should always try to find / watch movies that are 10/10's in your heart )" also applies the other way, if you always try to subjectively find dogshit because that's what you're into, you should always try to find the worst dogshit imaginable, SUBJECTIVELY.

Objectively, if you're finding medium tier or low tier bad movies, you're not doing it right. 3/10s arent good enough, senpai.

>" If you tally all the things that make a movie up, objectively speaking there are more ticks on the boxes of average / slightly above average than there are average / slightly below average, which makes it "good".

This is why I hate siskel and elbert. They do things at the most basic mathematical level for movies.

All movies start out neutral for them and they rate shit up and down mathematically according to how all the boxes of a movie should be ticked, Those old cunts never cared about how society feels about the message of a movie, they only cared about rating the movies at the most basic level. Same shit with faggy op-ed writers on shit like IMDB and RT. We dont hate journalists enough.

Boring movie. The nigger is clearly a great actor though, shame that he wasted his time on this, hope he got paid well.

They barely spent any time in the backrooms, felt especially flat after boasting about how much of a "massive" set they built only for the backrooms to feel so tiny in the movie.

Too much time spent on some surface-level allegory of the backrooms as trauma, and also as the backrooms having multiple forms/levels (the psychiatrists reality being a backrooms of her schizo mom's horde house that she retreats to).

Aped way more from House of Leaves than I thought it would, especially with the movie being barely about the actual backrooms, and more on the meta narrative of the psychiatrist and her schizo mom ala johnny truant and pelefina.

Wanted to see an hour of them exploring the backrooms, getting lost, and going crazy. Instead got a shitty attempt at copying house of leaves meta narrative with really poor dialogue and scene framing, carried by the nigger actor trying his best.

>They barely spent any time in the backrooms, felt especially flat after boasting about how much of a "massive" set they built only for the backrooms to feel so tiny in the movie.
Isnt that to build tension so when the payoff arrives it hits harder than if they just spent all their time in the backrooms? They wanted to show you that they can escape any time through the door to make you feel like the characters are so involved with the backrooms once they enter that they never consider leaving.

>Wanted to see an hour of them exploring the backrooms, getting lost, and going crazy. Instead got a shitty attempt at copying house of leaves meta narrative with really poor dialogue and scene framing, carried by the nigger actor trying his best.
That's how it is in the games, but this is a movie, character building outside the movie is necessary so when they end up clipping into the backrooms, you feel like they have something to lose if they can't return to their normal lives, right? I mean if theres nothing to lose you'll feel no connection to the characters, I guess.....

>guy finds entrance to backrooms
>has a little explore, maybe some brief, indirect encounter with some hideous entity
>comes out, tries to forget about it
>ropes in some friends/staff/whoever to go back in for proper exploration
>prepping/briefing montage, rope, radios, supplies, improvised weapons etc...
>they go in, go a bit too deep, get turned around, get stuck, go deeper
>2nd act they get separated and everything goes to shit
>each of them running into various entities with varying levels of horror and terror
>one 'dies', the other two reunite, press ahead and stumble onto an A-sync research area, shaken and terrified
>get taken in by the scientists for processing, brief respite from the terror
>like in the movie, the scientists capture one or more of the hideous entities for examination
>bit of exposition, some answers given, some more questions created, mounting tension and horror as they realise they're not safe with these scientists
>entity breaks loose, goes on an epic rampage through the science facility areas of the backrooms tearing dudes to bits just raging out
>the protagonists leg it, end up duking it out with the entity, in a pivotal finale where one sacrifices themself to let the other escape
>the last surviving protagonist escapes the backrooms, traumatised but safe, not far from where they entered... Then the radio they've got crackles from static and you hear the first 'dead' protagonist calling for help and we end with the surviving protagonist staring in fear and apprehension at the backrooms entrance knowing that they're going to have to re-enter to try and save their friend/lover whatever

Mary sucked and was carried by Clark. Every time she came on screen the movie stopped being about the Backrooms and became about the wellness grifter and her sad past. Would rather her time was cut and they developed on Clack and his retard friend ambushing and murdering Async.

Spiderman has always been more popular than any other superhero. The last one made almost as much as Endgame without any of the other capeshit characters in it. The real test for capeshit is the Avengers. We have to pray that movie flops or at least underperforms.

I was here opening weekend, when pic related debuted. Regardless of what anyone tries to say after the fact, I will never forgive or forget that /tv/ universally liked this movie when it first came out. I don't recall seeing even a single negative comment about it, and anyone who doubts that can check the archives.
So I will ask this: is Backrooms better or worse than Us?
>>
>>220863307
Is this a case where a sequel would clear? If they invested in the research team exploring, or is ASYNC meant to be a shadow operation? I feel like investing in the characters is a disservice for the series, it should be like REC 2 or something.
>>
>>220863307
I liked the youtube series.
Worth seeing the movie? Does it expand/continue on it or is it a nothing burger?
>>
>>220870116
Us is cool and well written, even if the twist was somewhat predictable.
>>
>>220870116
It's not even comparible. Us is race bait slop and Backrooms goes into psychosis and schizophrenia like LOST with Blair Witch elements
>>
>>220869961
The backrooms, in this context, are about memory dumbass. She literally uses the memory of her childhood home to save herself from the monster. It's more compelling than Clark's "my bitch exwife" bullshit. Are you that media illiterate?
>>
>>220870241
I don't know what part of
>I don't like her, I don't like her scenes, I would prefer less of her
You think you've beaten here. Wow she broke the plaster cast of her hand by smashing in Captain Crunch's head symbolizing-
Yeah, I got it. I could still do without her.
>>
>>220870241
>She literally uses the memory of her childhood home to save herself from the monster.
What? When?
>>
>>220870146
100% they'll give Kane the budget for a series to continue the Async story. I've been spending the afternoon watching some interviews with him on Youtube and he said that he has the storyline mapped out and intends to tell it in full.
>>
>>220870453
yeah I don't think that anon is correct. they didn't find any familiar places besides the store
>>
>>220870677
What storyline? I genuinely don't understand this need to expand/explain every detail.
>>
>>220870241

She uses the concrete cast of her handprint from her home's driveway, which she's been carrying around the whole film, to fight off Pirate Nigga.
>>
>>220870898
That's not a memory, that's a literal piece of concrete.

No retard, it is a píece of concrete of her old driveway that has a handprint of her and her mom, it's literally on her nightstand and it's the only thing she grabs and puts on her pocket after receiving clark's call and going to look for him in the store.
>>
>>220871398
I mean it's a physical piece of concrete and not a manifestation of a memory.
>>
>>220870833
Just watch the youtube series and the movie, it's pretty self explanatory.

Just came back from the theatre.
I give it a 7/10. Entertaining, well worth the watch, probably watch it on a slow weekday when all the kids are have school the day after or just wait for a rip.

Wasnt really scary or anything, but entertaining, wont be remembered in a year though.

I mean why does the idea of liminal space need explaining? Why can't it stay vague and unnerving?

your point crumples into aids ridden pieces you wretch. In writing, ideas are cheap, and beyond that, what made this site great was the free exchange of ideas for the sheer fun of it, without obsessing over being the next big thing. morons like you had already swarmed the site by 2019, but fortunately there are still some people that aren't as dumb as you.

>HOW DARE YOU HATE IT, IT"S A MASTERPIECE!
It's not hate, it's valid criticism because it has very obvious flaws.
>>

I firmly believe that what Us did wrong with the imperfect clone concept Backrooms did right. Both movies ended way too abruptly and had phoned in “twists” but Backrooms is better on most fronts. That being said, Us is still my favorite Jordan Peele movie just because of how batshit insane it is lol
>>
>>220870150
Its barely connected to the yt series
>>
>>220867914
Fuuuuuck, you know what, that definitely fits. I concede that maybe the Shining was first, but I still loved Backrooms a lot.

i liked the movie but holy FUCK did the guy recording and his gf suck cock at acting

>the more detailed still lifes arent just random copies but 1:1 (albeit fucked up ones) copies of actual irl people, probably because the two way influence of the place is increasing into irl reality as Async keeps fucking around
>same with the backrooms themselves, they are copying not just random (although the vast majority are random copies) of irl places like the layout of Mary's interrogation room, her childhood home and its rubble
>confirmed there are layers of detail to the copied areas as her memories of her childhood home it was copying degraded more and more with each layer, just like how memory works as you age: the source of the plans are corrupted so the product it makes is as well
>Async either was an MRI company or is just using that as a cover showing that there are even layers to that organization. Phil looked like he had a gun to the back of his head the whole time so it literally could be a front company that gets more and more sinister and glowie as you go up the chain.
Just a few details there, I'm sure there will be 4000 faggots with a "37 THINGS YOU MISSED IN THE BACKROOMS MOVIE-REVEALED! It's NOT what you THINK!" video out by Monday with more details

Since COPEVID i moved well away from all urban settlement to live as rural and in the woods as i possibly can

At the end they bring Mary to the threshold from the youtube videos (Async's initial gateway)
>>
I hope the success of the movie just leads to continuation of webseries and nothing more. The concept doesn't translate very well into an 1 and half hour movie set around few characters, even though I enjoyed it. I want more A Sync kino with random backrooms related incidents in between.
>>
This film just meandered to nowhere, huge waste of the concept making it allegoryslop.
What could have been a very dream like film about exploring a vast expanse of glitched, out of bounds reality was made into a "shit happens" the film.
>>
>>220863307
It is what it was meant to be, a good movie. It doesn't need fucking lore, or a bunch of sequels, or whatever the fuck. It was a good movie in 2026 and that's it.
>>
>>220874154
Hot take, but I think it would be a good anthology series. I honestly hate the ASYNC SCP garbage, but it ties the world together holistically. Like if the backrooms was like the twilight zone, but horror it would work in the long term. I honestly don't care if any mysteries get resolved.
>>
>>220874226
its his strong influence from source games like Portal and Half-life. Both games having this huge but secretive government contractor type thing. Also I just noticed (never heard anyone else make the connection) that ASYNC started out as a medical supply company just like Aperture Labs (portal) started as a shower curtain company. Hes mentioned these games being massive influences.
>>
>>220874226
>honestly hate the ASYNC SCP garbage
are you talking about the stupid levels bullshit or Kane's take on backrooms? Because his take is pretty grounded without any over the top SCP tier bullshit. My favourite bit of webseries was when researchers found the stickman creature, they didn't except any cryptids in that place and the whole incident including their counter measures by blocking hallways and rooms felt real. Like routine, average job, just in this weird place. SCP in comparison is much more autistic
>>
>>220867930
I think thats my only question is who the cripple still life was
>>
>>220874628
Doesn't matter, they're just random people who stumbled in at some point.
>>
>>220874226
>Hot take
Not a hot take. A sane take. I liked the movie. Leaving it vaguely explained is the best move. SCP should be something made as a miniseries.
>>
>>220874671
