The problem for me personally isn't the lore but the weird retcons and throwing in Calypso/Tia Dalma's story with Jones. Also the whole aspect of the Dutchman always needing a captain. If that was the case, who the hell was ferrying souls before Jones? It raises too many questions they also keep introducing new characters like Jack's father, the 9 Pirate Lords, and killing off Commodore Norrington. If I had to redo it all I would make rescuing Jack the prelude in the movie with the gang going through eldritch haunted waters. No Singapore battle. Then they try to make it to Shipwreck Cove, get chased by Jones and the EIC, Norrington defects and then finally the battle at the maelstrom. No weird endless betrayals and characters jumping back and forth between locations only to meet up again. Like there was no point in Will "betraying" the group when he planned to kill Jones on his own anyways.

I'm no expert on the franchise, but it seems to me that it feels less impressive after Jones' death.In the first trilogy appeared the crew cursed by the Aztecs, then David Jones, then this assembly of super pirates who decide to free Calypso.Then there's the whole climax with the death of the conceited Brit, which is pretty good.In later films, Pelelope Cruz and Javier Bardem appear. We also see the inclusion of Blackbeard in the story and something related to the Fountain of Youth. The thing is, all of this feels very light, like a less impressive adventure than the previous ones due to the lack of supernatural elements.
