I bet the boomer board at Disney is baffled by this
>>
>>220867704
I was so hyped for Season 1 of this show that I even bought a toy. Like, I've been pirating everything for decades, and Disney somehow managed to convince me to give them $10 for a 3 3/4" plastic Mando doll.

It's hilarious how hard Disney killed this golden goose that accidentally wandered into their yard one day.

It’s a common tactic used to generate profits.
>buy successful company
>cut costs
>raise prices
>lower quality to the bare minimum
>ride off nostalgia until the money stops
>squirrel away the massive profits squeezed out of the now dying company
>wait until the valuation of the company goes low
>sell at a loss to claim benefits
>buy a new company and repeat
The result is a drastic lowering of quality and an increase in cost to the consumer but massive profits for the benefactors of hallowing out society.

Anon, none of that generates profits. They spent billions of dollars acquiring Star Wars and Lucasfilm, billions on making movies and TV shows and other content, and billions remodeling their parks and creating themed attractions and hotels for Star Wars.

The box office of these films, as good as it was for the sequel trilogy, was never going to pay back this investment. It's about building a brand they can continuously milk for years. You do one remodel and it's expensive, but then for the next 20 years kids flock to that amusement park to enjoy it, and it comes a money printer. That was the plan.

None of Disney's investments have really paid off, with Star Wars. The initial good box office performance of the sequel trilogy didn't translate into merchandise sales or an uptick in attendance at Star Wars attractions. Now Disney's in a position where the most popular Star Wars items are prequel and original trilogy related, and the billions of dollars they invested now looks like it increasingly will never be recouped.

This is what people mean by saying Star Wars is a toxic brand now. They can release a movie that is actually okay, even fun, featuring characters that should appeal to the target demo, and it still bombs because nobody trusts Disney anymore, and Star Wars is associated terrible, preachy garbage.

>billions remodeling their parks and creating themed attractions and hotels for Star Wars
i love this part the most. with Galaxy's Edge, they committed hard to the sequel trilogy era and now they have to stay within it because all of their media is just meant to drive people to parks & merch
>>
>>220868151
You just described the plot of the movie Wall Street (1987)
>>

>because nobody trusts Disney anymore
Disney's still pretty popular with its actual target demographic: little girls. The side demos: parents, older women who grew up watching Disney stuff, also do pretty well. The main thing Disney is losing its grip on is boys and young men, but that is the eternal problem with Disney. They realize they are becoming a "girl company" and freak out, and desperately try to appeal to men and boys, which sometimes works, for a little bit, then they get complacent and go back to their usual ways, and the male demos start slipping through their fingers again.
>>
>>220868989
i just dont see laser swords and blasters and starships and galactic politics and telekinetic-powered-space-knights every landing with the little girls demographic enough to keep star wars going though
