Two horror films outperforming that stupid Disney Wars movie at the box office right now
>>220872606I think people are aware that there's big problems looming. They just have this misplaced faith in the system that someone will figure out how to fix it, or is even trying

>>220872758Scary Movie?
>>220872677For me Piece Of Mind - Powerslave - Somewhere In Time is the absolute peak. That's the basis and essence of their sound, everything after was riffing off it. Seventh Son was>what if that sound, but a bit proggyNo Prayer For The Dying was>what if that sound, but more like Judas Priestetc.
>>220872720This movie is GREAT and the girl is super cute
>>220872669No one will fix anything. The gap between the haves and have nots will keep growing. Also, when first world declines, second and third world are even more screwed. Look at what is happening with the gas shortage.

iron lung good?
>>220872945It's way too long, but not bad for what it is.
>>220872882I'm just a huge punk and hardcore, grindcore, powerviolence retard so the early Maiden stuff is just my kind of thing. They had that energy in a way. Killers? Come on. Masterpiecesame thing with like early Slayer. Fucking Judas Priest mixed with Discharge. I love it still
>>220872945Game was fine for an indie game, film was okay for a vanity project.

>>220872551I've just watched Obsession and I have one question. Was Nikki posessed by an evil entity or was the evil nature of her condition just a natural consequence of Bear's wish being so selfish? The director said the One Wish Willow isn't inherently evil or cursed, so it isn't necessarily a Wishmaster/Monkey's Paw situation (plus when Bear returns to the store in the third act, the cashier guy says people who use it turn out fine, if sometimes regretful to some degree), but at the same time there's that really good scene in the car where Bear calls the company and it seems like he's being taunted by something or someone, even making him hear Nikki's screams of agony in the background as if she was being held hostage. I really enjoyed the movie but I'm at a bit of a loss regarding how the wish thing actually works. Maybe I'm just a brainlet
>>220873125We saw the trailer and the black black love interest.
>>220873140It's ambiguous, the film universe seems intentionally frivolous so I wouldn't take it seriously. But when she was speaking in her sleep she says "she" in reference to something taken over. That could be a kind of demonic force, or could just be a fake representation of herself, or even the lizard part of her brain. But she at least references it as an "other".
>>220872669Most people don’t know they are falling behind. The bread and circuses are covering things up. Circus>Backrooms slops>movies. The average person is falling behind.

>>220873533Donnie Darko
>>220873533You should watch some Bava, I think that kind of film soothes the soul.Otherwise, I'd say The Mist.
>>220873265Yeah that's the explanation I'm leaning towards too, to be honest. Was just curious. It seems like one of those situations where it's better if the director doesn't go into much detail so as to not make things confusing or contradictory
>>220872993But she is actually super cute

Went to Regal's theatrical screening of Little Shop of Horrors but had to leave early so don't know if they showed the theatrical or the director's cut. Either way it was a nice reminder of how absolutely perfect that movie is. Seriously might be on the top 100 of all time.

I want to apologize to zoomers. I was going in on them for the absolute worse movie I ever seen the trash called backrooms and the stupid liminal space trend. But than I just came back from Obsession and it’s probably the best horror movie ive seen in the past 20 years.
>>220877016Past twenty is a bit rich but past five definitely
>>220877016There's no higher praise I can give to zoomers than saying this:Every single generation, adult people talk about how the younger generation is retarded and annoying and stupidMillenials are the first time where the generation after them (Zoomers) went "Yeah actually they did suck"
I felt bad at first for the girl in obsession, but than you find out that she was a whore with the MC best friend behind his back and I lost all sympathy for her. Women suck.“What is so bad, being with me” felt that bros.
>>220877069They were all just retarded teenagers and the director viewed the movie as a torture box
>>220877069yea. the friendzone shit really bothers me. she was clearly trying to manipulate him into buying a crystal. and begging him to go to the bar and asking for a ride home. leading him on and then sucking his fat friends dong and spinning on it. nasty stuff. how can anyone defend that behavior
>>220877094>>220877069The director said they actually did multiple takes of most of her early scenes where she was either super into him or not into him at all because he wanted it to be purposely vague whether or not the feeling was mutualYeah she fucked his friend but the whole group was trashy so whatever
>>220877093It's true it kind drives me insane the way films have become viewed as some weighing of the souls in a gender politics game. His friend was the biggest asshole of them all really
>>220877122The one dialogue I didn’t get is when he drops her off at first, and she asks him if he likes her. I thought that was weird.
>>220877145He was based on Eddie from Silent Hill 2 right? Also I hate that every time a character is named Ian in anything they're the worst most unlikeable guy ever why couldn't I be named Jack or something
>>220877149She was clearly into him but couldn't get into him because he was such a cowardly pussy. If he was the kind of man who could say>Yes, I'm attracted to you, and since we aren't working together anymore I want to keep seeing you, and I want to go on a date next weekShe'd be into him, but since he kept pussy footing with>Oh jeez i don't know i just you're so cool and um i just i don't know i got you a crystal because um i thought that um i thinkYeah, "I see him like a little brother"
>>220877145I remember the friend character from YouTube comedy channel that never got big but was pretty funny. He got fat.
>>220877149In the moment it makes you think she might like him, but in hindsight she was gonna let him down
>>220873533>Courage the Cowardly Dog Watch that
watched about an hour of I Saw the TV Glow. Nothing happens but also you have to listen to teenage prose, also speaking to the audience just comes off really amateur. Is this what zoomers call horror?
>>220877199Oh wait never mind the director is the guy from that YouTube channel lmao. Still wonder why their YouTube channel never grew.
>>220876944It's a Raimi. Also had a baseball movie out around the same time, For the Love of the Game.

>>220877183It is pretty fucked up how women are allowed to expect men to read their minds but men are supposed to be balls out showing their ass about what they want all the time, but also we know that if hed been like that but she didn't like him he would've been basically a rapist.Reason she liked fatty was because he was because he didn't give a shit about her.
>>220877258Its the second worst movie I've ever seen.
>>220877258I thought it was alright, mainly because the music was worth a listen. But you didn't miss anything by stopping there.

>>220877759>how dare they besmirch the good name of Freddy Krueger?!lol are you joking
>my eyes are up here
>>220877842Nikki booba!
>>220877799desexualization is classic of horror villains though, it makes them more alien, and their desire and impulsion to kill more prominent
>>220877876uh huh. sex and death don't go together at all.
>>220877799Why does he have to be? Why can't he just enjoy killing for the sake of it? The thrill of extinguishing a young life. He doesn't need to be a pedo.>>220877816I am not joking
>>220873140>Was Nikki posessed by an evil entity or was the evil nature of her condition just a natural consequence of Bear's wish being so selfish? It was a cop out because the writer didn't want to risk the backlash of making a story where a man forcibly makes a woman fall in love with him. Ian wished for a billion dollars and got it, so Bear's wish coming out differently makes no sense. If it was a true Monkey's Paw situation, Bear would be getting what he asked for, but at some grave cost. In the original story a man wishes for money and gets money due to compensation from his son's death. Bear asks for Nikki to love him and instead gets another being loving him while controlling Nikki's body. It only makes sense if Bear only saw Nikki for her body, which is clearly not true given their interactions in the opening sequence.
>>220877926People that kill others in real life almost always derive a great rush of pleasure from doing so and the lizard part of human brain literally rewards acts of violence with pleasure
>>220877948>It was a cop out because the writer didn't want to risk the backlash of making a story where a man forcibly makes a woman fall in love with him.So instead the far more horrifying and less consensual option of her being trapped in her body while it fucks him without her (which is what happened). Your theory doesn't make sense anon. His wish was evil and it manifested in an evil way. Fatty's wish was neutral so he got it no strings attached. It's a monkeys paw but only if your wish is immoral
>>220877876How is it possible to be this wrongEven Frankenstein wanted to fuck
>>220877926In Freddy's Dead he says 'so I took all their children away from them,' which makes it sound like he was just killing them as revenge. I don't know if they were trying to soft retcon it or not.
>>220877990>so he got it no strings attached.I hate people making this assumption just because it wasn't what killed him. There's a whole movie to be made about a guy who makes Fatso's wish and how it destroys him but that's not the movie that got made. There are no direct repercussions for his wish because this movie is Obsession, not Greed.
>>220878056Well you got me there, but I still think the plot wasn't a cop out and the way the wish manifested was very intentional, even if the lore behind it is murky
>>220878014Frankenstein didn't even want to kill. Frankenstein is better example of what I'm saying since he tries to play with the little girl and ends up killing her instead because of the trope of redirect of normal human desires towards violence. But I didn't say "Monsters never desire sex and have nother to do with sex ever!" did I, this board has to take every statement as freakishly absolutist.Michael murders his sister after the sight of her tits, has no urge from then on except to kill.Jason surrounded by sexy teens, but the sex merely incites him to kill. Even parodied in Jason X, and the idea that teens who have sex are destined to die in slashers.Frank from Maniac keeps attempting interactions with women but as soon as he gets excited he murders them insteadLeatherface is a giant retard that just wants to play and kill despite raping them being available.
>>220878140The Jason rape flashback scene got cut from part 3, but is still kind of implied. Leatherface wants to fuck Stretch and likely think he actually did during the chainsaw play. He goes crazy and destroys the room because he coomed. >absolutist Yes, but still...
>>220876314Stop mentioning this movie
>>220878204Obsession Obsession Obsession Obsession I am obsessed with Obsession
>>220875936One of the bosses in the NES "Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti" videogame was a reference to "The Burning (1981)" which I thought was cool, since that movie isn't as popular as other 80s slashers
>>220877948This isn’t a monkey paw movie it’s a love potion movie. Twilight Zone did it 70 years ago.
>>220877990>So instead the far more horrifying and less consensual option of her being trapped in her body while it fucks him without her (which is what happened).More horrifying but also more boring. It removes all intrigue the movie could have had while also making the moral dilemma have an obvious answer.>Your theory doesn't make sense anon. His wish was evil and it manifested in an evil way. Fatty's wish was neutral so he got it no strings attached. It's a monkeys paw but only if your wish is immoralIt's not a monkeys paw because it doesn't give what was requested. The point of the original story is the irony of getting what you wanted yet becoming unhappy due to how it was obtained. If the writer did mean it to be a monkeys paw story, he either failed to understand what a monkeys paw is, or knew and knowingly wrote in the entity shit anyways.
>>22087745480’s slop.
>>220878349More horrifying = less boring for me.I wouldn't want to sacrifice terror for shallow "intrigue" when the movie is already very clever and intriguing. Look at how much people are arguing over it.
>>220878214Very pathetic webm.
>>220877454Jason was always better because he mostly kills women in his movies, Freddy starts off killing men and women evenly in the first 4 movies, but then he kills 2 men in part 5, then 3 guys in part 6 and then 1 guy in Freddy vs Jason sorry Freddy, but I don't wanna see just men die (that's gay), I need women dying, bonus points if they're naked
>>220878214This 3/10 mades zoomers go crazy.
Guys, I just found out the director of Backrooms is a zoomer. Looking at his pictures this whole time, I thought he was 50+. Lmao wtf.
>>220878191Other ones off the top of my headHellraiser - the cenobites never fuck anyone, they rape them with violence as to them violence becomes pleasureDon't Go In The House - he goes on dates but only to real desire is to bring women back and burn themSilent Night, Deadly Night - Billy's sexual thoughts get interrupted by memories of his families murder and triggers him to go mad and killThe Slumber Party Massacre - the serial killer murders people with a giant phallic drill. i.e. the redirection of sex to violence.Dracula is probably the most prominent sexual monster. Gillman wants to fuck but again since he can't he mainly tries to kill. Mick Taylor is maybe explicitly a rapist but I don't remember. Rape and revenge films are where sex really comes into it and they have a subgenre because the application of rape so similar.
>>220878466you're 30 and you live in your mothers basement

>>220879691Interesting, I think the soundtrack makes the ending really strong. But I could see how plotwise people might hate it.
was pretty good, not great, just pretty good
>>220879691The whole movie was fine
>>220879788I wonder if the game explains any more, because a lot of it was ambiguous.
Just got back from obsession. Every single seat was filled so they gave me the retard chair lol.
>>220879987the game is purely atmospheric, there's no dialogue just you going from place to place taking pictures of weird stuff and then it ends with a jumpscareit's 10 minutes long
>>220880048>Don't worry anon, I found a loophole in the no singles policy
>>220879987No, the movie expands a lot more on the lore, the game just gives you a couple of notes and really no explanation to anything.
>>220880079Huh, appreciate the info anon. Well in that case gotta give it to him for coming up with a story. I thought the x-ray mistake was good character development. Needed a bit more connection between the monsters/voice/light/blood growth elements..
Sinister is finished. Definitely one of the top horror films of all time. Ending and whole movie goes hard.

The Backrooms sucked after the first hour. What a wasted set.
>>220878396Based?
>>220880114The game drops a couple of hints The light is a good force, the monster is evil. The blood ocean seems to be the blood from all the people who disappeared in the quiet rapture

>Insidious>Sinister>the ConjuringThe unholy trinity. Hard hitting horror of the 2010s. Starts of the decade with a bang.
>>220880259A new Insidious movie is coming out soon. He created multiple movie series that are on par with FF13 and NoES after almost 2 decades. >Annnabelle>Insidious>the Conjuring>the NunClassics.
>>220880291to me, he comes up short
>>220880238Spectacular film that will only get better with age.
>>220880297I accept your concession.
>>220880238Fun fact is that Wan settled out of court in a lawsuit that claimed he stole the idea from a script Blumhouse were sent. The guy made a pretty damning youtube vid on the similarities though it was likely his wife that stole it.
>>220880145Interesting, in the film I thought the voice was the light, and the light was the rapturous evil. And the monsters were just monsters. At one point I thought they might be inside a giant heart/monster but wasn't so.
>>220880356Crazy to think in 2010s, Blumhouse was making solid horror. Now, they make horror meant for women and dei.
>>220880356Not really, you can see the influence of other movies on Malignant.
I really did not expect a board wide meltdown about Kane Parsons.some of it feels like a coordinated generations flame war, some just seem like uber salty crabs in a bucket taking an /x/ post way too seriously
>>220880297Bro has aura
>>220880417Idk I haven't seen the movie, the plot makes it sound okay, not terrible enough to get angry over
>>220880368Not quite. The monster is trying to trick him away from the light by messing with his head which is why it's so hell bent on stopping him from handing over the SM8 data
>>220880417The movie was highly anticipated, resonated with fans of the youtube series, and highly propped up by critics. It feel completely short as an almost 2 hour film. Compared to a film such as Iron Lung, which focused heavily on expanding a 10 minute game; Backrooms tried to be a Hollywood success, as opposed to the indie film people wanted. Hence many people were baited into seeing the truth in theatres.Hopefully Exit 8 isn't as bad either.
>>220880426stop simping
>>220880441Ah ok that makes enough sense. Oh and there was the zombie guy on board as well, once you add enough of these pieces in it becomes harder to connect. Still manages to pull an ending out of it though so that's alright.
>>220880475nta but it's a bummer that it seems to have had the hollywood adaption. It's a rare chance to make a unique film but the pressure to conform would have been enormous.
>>220880545Yeah the game basically just shows you the light and everything is good there and then you go to where the monster is and you die from a jumpscare. That's it. Movie is way more elaborate
>>220880575Yeah. Iron Lung was pretty ideal for me, I enjoyed every bit of that movie. It only had a 3 mil budget. Backrooms had a 10 mil budget, but it likely didn't need 10 mil, so I'm wondering if Kane Parsons was more interested in fame and success or making a true to form film. Markiplier's was clearly pure passion, and while he isn't the best actor, he really did a great job.

The SM-8 was piloted by a researcher and her assistant (not convicts). At some point, the researcher started compulsively drinking the blood, which led to rapid mutation, and ultimately she and her assistant fused together and became the monster. This is why the monster has two voices initially, later revealed to be the crew of the SM-8 when Simon gets the recordings. The light is a portal to another dimension, inhabited by the giant eye (the "ignorant god" mentioned by the monster), which peered through, seeing a tiny fraction of our universe, and because it's a god and its will is reality, accidentally everything outside of its sight, the "quiet rapture".
>>220880048Wtf is up with that ceiling? I'm gonna observe my surroundings more closely next time I go to the theater.
>>220872945Yeah it’s good. Goes a bit long and drags in the middle but it’s shockingly competent for a Markiplier project.Biggest problem is how esoteric the storytelling is. You almost need to use subtitles because there’s a lot of dialogue that is deliberately obscured but very relevant to the story. Piecing together all the little details is something that requires a few watches so only the people that LOVE the movie will manage to make the most sense of it all. But it’s full of my favourite horror trope where the scares are hidden in plain sight like all the Hill House ghosts. There’s plenty of “oh shit I never saw that when I first watched it” moments. Even in the opening 10 seconds.

I thought the backrooms was good, but u didn’t like the direction it took when it started getting more “intense” I honestly would have much preferred a slower burn, more atmospheric film. Something with scares but like, nothing over the top. Anyone else know what I mean?

Is obsession feminist/incel hysteria slop? Like is it really hamfisted? I’m not sure I want to waste my time. I don’t even really care much if a movie is “woke” (whatever that means) but like, I’m just sick of the discourse lmao,
>>220882816No it's not. It's more like there's a fluctuating tension in the film between the MC being a hapless guy you feel for or an asshole. Of course feminist are going to hone in on the asshole part because they're cunts. It's a miserable film if you're sensitive to that, but just as a horror movie (the way it looks, sounds, scares, acting etc.) it's excellent.

>>220883412They just have to add nudity and grit.
Not bad, really. But the narrative structure throws off the rhythm of the film, so that despite several interesting setpieces that happen often enough to keep you interested, the overall impact is dulled as a result. One strong point is that Pinhead receives a lot of screentime, but some of his dialogue felt bland, like he wouldn't actually say that. It lacked the gravitas that you'd expect for a man of his stature. But I did get pins and needles in my thumb shortly before he appeared for the first time so that's something.

"The Vault of Horror" (1973) is a comfy British horror anthology, consisting of 5 segments and a framing story. It has known actors like Terry-Thomas, Tom Baker (a Doctor Who), Curd Jürgens (Bond villain) and Denholm Elliot (Indiana Jones' boss at the college). The stories are tame by today's standards, but well made. I liked the movie.
>>220888135The Neat job is my favorite segment. really good movie based on EC horror comics like Tales from the Crypt, Haunt of Fear, and the titular Vault of Horror.
>>220888300>The Neat job is my favorite segment.I liked Drawn and Quartered, and I think I've read the story of Midnight Mess in a book before (not a comic book). Neat Job is probably the most realistic - I like how you can feel how Terry-Thomas' poor wife is driven to insanity by his extreme demands of organization and tidyness.
Went into this expecting an ultra-low budget creature feature in the vein of Critters from the description. What I got instead was weird deconstructionist traumaslop about what happens after the final credits roll. Actually a clever take on horror movies if only it wasn't so poorly shot and acted. Almost satirical.Posting more or less as a warning so nobody else mistakes it for legit horror.
>>220888347A good number of EC Comics stories were ripped from short stories. There's a funny anecdote from when Ray Bradbury found out they were lifting his stories.>In 1952 EC publisher Bill Gaines received a hilarious letter from Ray Bradbury gently requesting $50 in payment for the rights to his two stories “The Rocket Man” and “Kaleidoscope.” Turns out EC had been taking Bradbury’s work, making a few small changes, then using it in some of their comics. What they didn’t know was Bradbury was an avid comic reader and quickly caught on to their scheme. This could’ve ended in a costly lawsuit for EC. But, instead, Bradbury graciously wrote it off as “probably overlooked in the general confusion of office-work”
>>220888723I like Bradbury, he wrote a lot of interesting stories. The first one I had to read in school and write a homework about it. Bradbury manages to convey mood and atmosphere very well by using simple everyday words which I guess makes his stories excellent reading material even for 7th or 8th grades. Nice anecdote, anon.EC, Tales from the Crypt, Vault of Horror etc. were before my time, but I know of course the stories that have been turned into anthology movies.

Then this one comes in and says "Yes we can make a movie about a cave monster and not use ChatGPT to make the monster", way to go Asia picking up the slack for my Creature Feature addiction. "Hammer - Heroes, Legends and Monsters" (2024) is technically not a horror movie, but I enjoyed it all the same. It's a documentary about the film studio that brought us so many of the classics and that made Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing stars. I didn't know Hammer still exists today, I thought it had gone under in the late 70s.

After "Hammer - Heroes, Legends and Monsters" I watched "Dracula" (1958) and it's really amazing what they were able to do with what I now know was a small budget of just 90,000 pounds. And in colour! Just too bad that it was the censored version. (It was a restored version from rolls of film that had been found in Japan.) The movie also takes some liberties with the source material as due to budget restriction they never go to Transylvania nor does Dracula travel by ship. But overall it's still a decent film.
>>220891705Did you see Sinners?
