>talks his whole life about wanting to make movies
>tries exactly once and gives up

I really don't get it. It would have been trivial for him to set up another crowdfund campaign.
>>
>gets to make a movie
>makes a lame one that's all jokey
Why? If I got the budget I'd do a horror western or a sword and sorcery film. Not a gay ass comedy.
>>
It's one thing to be an aspiring filmmaker and having the talent for it. He doesn't have the talent for it. Making YT videos is not the same as making a full feature length movie. He probably saw that himself and stayed in his lane.
>>
>makes a career by talking shit about soulless slop
>"what were they thinking" literally becomes one of his catch phrases
>makes "what were they thinking: the movie"

really makes you think
>>

it was completely independent, doing it all on your own is a massive pain in the ass. Even with a ten million dollar budget it would still be helmed by an amateur
>>
>>220876479
It was really bad, to the point where even his diehard fans didn't like it
>>
Has too much libcuckness compared to the drink with the buddies feel the show has. Like you can get the "WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE" feel with this film. I wish this film let the fat guy win in the trolley example because doing it for a big crowd defeats the purpose of this film.

Remember how he had to spend over a third of the raised money to the IRS because he was too retarded to declare that he had already started working on the movie and thus it was taxed as personal income?
>>
>>220876728
Why do you think that you need a trip for this milquetoast ass post?
>>
Hilarious how some spic bum managed to make El Mariachi which got his foot in Hollwood's door on a shoestring budget the fraction of the AVGN movie
>>
>>220876479
He’s a YouTube pioneer with a 20+ year career. That’s where the real magic is. He probably realized this after the movie. Why stress directing/acting in a movie when you can film in your basement at your leisure? Just a guess.
>>
-his wife made the experience much harder for him
-he was raising his first newborn at the time
-he (stupidly) tried to balance his youtube channel with his filming instead of just taking a break
-this was waay before ANYONE took this shit seriously so he was a genuine trailblazer that built up the foundation of what people would later do
-he is making another movie, just slowly
>>
>>220877299
He should have let Mike take over the Cinemassacre channel

Filming in LA really soured his whole view on film making. He desperately wanted to make the film as an "official product" made in hollywood but didn't consider just how expensive and ruthless the Hollywood movie making machine was. Had James decided to film in his home town using the crew he had worked with for years he'd not only have had a far more happy experience making the movie he'd have had plenty of cash to go even further with his film. No I understand his film required a desert but filming somewhere like Utah, Arizona, or New Mexico would have been far cheaper than the California route. It's a real shame he had such a shit experience in Hollywood because it really crushed his soul and is most certainly part of the reason he went bald.
>>
>>220877299
Wrong.

same deal with the guy in the American Movie doc, whole time hes all "i'm an artist and a filmmaker this is what my lie is all about" finishes one film ever and never does another, the way he spends decades focusing on an old project that should be abandoned gave me PTSD because my filmmaker buddy did the same thing with some footage he shot that he thought for like 10 years he could repurpose with some added film to make a good indie film (and then put it into a competition or something) I'm a failed musician so I know the art struggle but at least as a musician if you finish your album and it sounds great theres a bit more satisfaction to that

>>
>>220877641
Fuck that man. I remember being at a party and a friend introduced me to a friend of his, who was an MMA fighter.
I remember shaking the guy's hand and it felt like grabbing someone's foot. I'm not a pussy, I've gotten my ass beat plenty of times, but it was weird having a moment of clarity where I realized if this dude wanted to kill me he wouldn't have a problem.

He has openly admitted this, I mean you can't really shit on James for being honest with himself. He realized that making actual movies is extremely hard and stressful and expensive, and he prefers a quiet family life making videos.

Nobody is born knowing this stuff, but usually you start by working as assistants on sets and learn the trade by watching and working various roles. When people immediately try to produce and direct with zero experience and can’t surround themselves with knowledgeable people they actually listen to, it’s most likely going to be bad.

I was a kid in a 90’s baseball movie, not the fat kid or the nerd, and Hollywood fucking sucks. My parents wanted me to keep going because parents live vicariously through their kids but once you’ve accomplished being in or making a movie you not only realize it’s not worth the effort and repeated rejections but you want out. Fuck Hollywood and any parents that put their kids into it.

Old AVGN ended with Bible Games 3 (Ep 106, 2011) and Nu AVGN began with Schwarzenegger Games (Ep 107, 2012). He went to film the movie in Cali and his acting style changed.

He did not really direct this movie, his wife did. And thank God that he never tried again. His movie deserved to bomb because in the end of the day he doesn't respect his own character.

Stop blaming his wife. The whole movie was misconceived from the start. Nobody wanted an AVGN movie set in California with elaborate monsters and new characters. All people wanted was a Kevin Smith esque Clerks movie with AVGN. A low budget comedy with some wackiness in the end.

>>220876479
There were so many mistakes in production and just about everything, James and other YouTubers who want to make movies, really need to just hire people who actually know what they’re doing
Far too many of them think they can go from using one camera to record themselves in their bedroom to running a whole production, experienced film makers have spoken about how miserable it can get

and first chance to make a real movie

he goes straight to LA

LA

Unlike Stuckmann, I actually believe he was passionate about films.
But I'm not sure what he was thinking with this movie.
>>
>>220876622
I'd say he has talent, just for short films and YouTube more so than a feature length movie.
For example, a few Board James episodes like Mr. Bucket and Dream Phone mog the shit out of this movie.
Hell, the Rob the Robot episode is much better as a mini-movie.
>>
>>220882304
No. Reproduction is something that even a dog or an insect can do. Hundreds of millions of babies are born each year; it's an extremely mundane event. Holding it up as this ultimate life achievement is hopelessly cringe, literally lowering yourself to the level of a stray dog fucking in an alley. The highest possible human achievements are creative and spiritual ones, not sticking your dick in a hole.
>>
>>220878320
Eggers and Ari Aster are millenials and I'd say they've done better stuff

This. My primary issue with the movie is that it didn't feel or come across like an AVGN episode.
I have a similar stance on the X-Files movie, for some reason it didn't feel like the show. So a movie and a long running series are pretty different things.
>>
>>220882663
The episodes are a smaller production where the primary contributors are James and occasionally Mike.
The movie was made by a bunch of people, including his wife, and their input made it disjointed.
It's the reason why Hollywood sometimes fumbles film adaptations of books.
It's one person's vision that becomes a project where hundreds of people have input on it and insert their own shit into it.
>>
>>220882407
The curse of the critic. They get comfortable talking about the “obvious” things filmmakers should have done because they come from the lofty position of commenting from hindsight. They have no fucking clue how many decisions needed to be made from scratch, how many problems needed to be fixed, and how many obstacles needed to be overcome.
I’m glad he got his ass handed to him. Whenever he’s being a little shit, people can point to his abortion of a film and ask why he didn’t do better.
>>
>>220882905
This is more true for RLM I'd say. They review films for a living and are often very critical of them, despite their own movie being ass.
James reviews mostly old video games as a hyperbolized fictional character, but his movie reviews tend to be a lot more casual and he doesn't talk about a wide plethora of movies like RLM, who also review Oscar bait and all kinds of projects.

no reproduction is a truly great thing if you raise great kids that go on to be great people, that said being a good parent doesn't mean your art has to suffer or die out
>>
>>220882707
The act of making a baby isn't an achievement but raising a person is. It's definitely not for everyone, and if someone is self-aware that they're not cut out for that, more respect to them.
Otherwise you get a bunch of 4channers being born.
>>
>>220883008
>>220882991
I have kids but I think we all know that 4chan incels aggressively fetishize reproduction. If you unironically believe this shit about your children being your best and only achievement and the high point of human existence then you're going to have a bad time once your kids grow up and you realize that you have another 30 years of life ahead of you.
