>>220881848Alderaan was already suspect because the Empire was partially aware of Leia's suspicious involvement in the death star plans getting into the hands of the rebels, Palps already knew Mon was in contact with her so if anything, 50/50 shot you just got most of the rebels, you also demonstrate the power of the weapon and the Senate is dissolved already so basically it's endgame for other planets regardless. You can just park this thing outside a planet and it would take you out. I don't think The Emperor really cared if Tarkin was right or not, but Vader DID see the councillor ship in Rogue One so it's not a stretch to assume he just called Tarkin about it.

The Emperor was just a crazy sorcerer locked in his tower obsessed with getting more dark powers and using Darth Vader as his tool outside. Tarkin was the leader of a military junta and once he was out of the picture Vader became the strongman in the empire
