I was never really all that impressed by this guy.

He seemed pretty clueless and incompetent.
>>
*blows up your planet*
>>
Kinda crazy he just had authority to blow up well developed planets as an interrogation technique
>>
>>220881848
nigga there are like a billion planets who cares
>>
>>220881848
That was always the plan though. He wasn’t arbitrarily deciding to blow up a random planet. He himself said they had to blow up a well known and important planet to set a show up for all other major important settlements to see the consequences of harbouring rebels at all

Blowing up a random backwater wouldn’t accomplish this
>>
>>220881848

He TALKED to Palpatini.
>>
>>220881815
Yidsney made a short story where hes in a gay relationship with a stormtrooper
>>
>>220881977
>Disneyslop canon
I'll stick to the version where he has a cute, slightly retarded side piece that he makes into an Admiral as a joke.
>>
>>220881815

Not like Alderaan. It's actually terrible how written Star Wars is when they destroyed such a vital planet as an afterthought. It's like blowing up Belgium or Hong Kong just because you want to demonstrate a new nuke then expect the world to continue on as usual.

>It's like blowing up Belgium or Hong Kong just because you want to demonstrate a new nuke then expect the world to continue on as usual.
...Anon, you do remember what happened in the mid-40s, right?
>>
>>220882195
Yeah totally the same thing, you dumbass.
>>
>>220882237
it actually literally is
>Hey USSR, check out what we can do
>>
>>220881848
Didn't he get in deep shit for blowing up the specific planet he did? Or is that new supplemental material?
>>
>>220883635
Who's going to give him shit about it? The senate was dissolved, the Emperor would have probably given him a medal for it.
>>
Where was he during Andor?
>>
>>220884624
Traveling to China to kill Dracula (again).
>>
>>220882123
>imagine an authoritarian regime whose highest ranking members practice dark magic would destroy hubs of civilisation on a whim because they aren't getting their way in some small way
Oy vey
>>
>>220882123
Sooo like how WWII ended?
>>
>>220883635
>Didn't he get in deep shit for blowing up the specific planet he did? Or is that new supplemental material?
I don't remember seeing Tarkin in episodes V or VI
>>

>I don't remember seeing Tarkin in episodes V or VI
Anon I...
>>
>>220884919
What? Does he die on the death star? Its been a minute.
>>
>>220884919
>I didn't see no body
>>
>>220883635
If anything new material makes alderaan an even more logical target because fucking every rebel is from there
>>
>>220884961
I don't remember a specific scene if him dying but he was in the bridge or command center or whatever of the DS when it blew up, so it's more than implied.

>>220884973
I didn't see him in episodes V or VI, or even the awful extended universe. He's dead, Jim.
>>
>>220884961
Yes. He specifically declines an escape shuttle. It's a character moment that shows his arrogance.

yeah, haha, who would do such a thing, right
>>
>>220884919
He comes back with spider legs and fights Leia in the Alderaan asteroid field
>>
>>220883635
There is some random EU book exerpt where Palpatine said sometging like, if Tarkin had failed to find the rebel base after destroying Alderan he was going to give him shit for it, but it didnt matter since Tarkin died
>>
>>220881876
I'm surprised they didn't blow up Chandrila as well.
>>
>>220881815
Tarkin, like a lot of OT characters, gets puffed up in EU material but in the actual film, there's never any moment where he's meant to wow you with his tactical/strategic acumen. He's scary because he's just completely ruthless.
>>
>>220881876
Yeah but Alderaan was a core world, what if Sheev had some secret plans going on there, what if somebody important was visiting at the time, Sheev was evil but I don't think he would waste men
>>
I thought he actually Snoke in the new Star Slop and secret Sith Lord.
>>
>>220881848
Alderaan was already suspect because the Empire was partially aware of Leia's suspicious involvement in the death star plans getting into the hands of the rebels, Palps already knew Mon was in contact with her so if anything, 50/50 shot you just got most of the rebels, you also demonstrate the power of the weapon and the Senate is dissolved already so basically it's endgame for other planets regardless. You can just park this thing outside a planet and it would take you out.

I don't think The Emperor really cared if Tarkin was right or not, but Vader DID see the councillor ship in Rogue One so it's not a stretch to assume he just called Tarkin about it.
>>
>>220881848
I think in some early concepts of Star Wars he and the Great Moff had pretty much total authority over the Empire. The Emperor was just a crazy sorcerer locked in his tower obsessed with getting more dark powers and using Darth Vader as his tool outside. Tarkin was the leader of a military junta and once he was out of the picture Vader became the strongman in the empire
>>
>>220881815
Understandable, his role is understated in original material and doesn’t get hyped like someone like Thrawn unless you have read like 5 supplementary books, at that point play a tabletop game.
>>
>>220888164
At the time of ANH the hierarchy goes like this:
>Sheev
>Imperial military high command
>Vader
>Imperial admirals / generals
Tarkin can boss Vader around because he outranks him. After Yavin, Sheev realized putting all his chips on the moffs wasn’t in his best interest because they were overconfident in their new technologies to the point where it blinded them from potential threats. From ESB to the end Vader is still Sheev’s errand boy but has more direct control over the military and bringing their plans in line with Sheev’s new priority to snuff out the Jedi once and for all.
>>
>>220888590
Since RotS both the novels and the official canon says that Vader has had direct authority over the military until he bungled his shit up and Sheev got mad at him. That's when he starts putting him under Moff's to piss him off. People forget that Sheev literally assumed Anakin would be an absolute fucking unit after Order 66 and that pre-suit Vader would be even able to surpass him.

Well...then Kenobi happened.
