>watching twin peaks for the first time
You guys didn't tell me this was a soap opera...
>>
>>220883580
David Lynch was trolling you
>>
>>220883580
It's not.
It's everything.
Every tv trope and genre filtered through the mind of David Lynch.
>>
>>220883580
I feel like such a girl watching soaps like Twin Peaks and Mad Men

but

it's kinda fun too lol
>>
>>220883610
David Lynch trolled pseuds into believing he made art. Which, I guess if you are post-modernist enough, is art.
>>
>>220883630
>Mad Men
>Girl soap
>When have the episodes are basically about sexy women showing their bodies
You're a retard.
>>
>>220883580

That's a damn fine piece of pie
>>
>>220883630
you need cock to break you in, friendo
install grindr and get sucking
>>
>>220883642
Yes retard, women hate being ogled, especially by rich powerful men who the show portrays as easily swayed by feminine charm.
>>
>>220883580
Also I hope this guy was nominated for worst actor award because god damn he sucks
>>
>>220883661

>>
Is Season 4 possible?
>>
>>220883665
Do you even know what era the show takes place? Yes, men were fucking women like that all the time. There was no aids. There was no herpes or syphilis unless you went to actual filthy women.
>>
>>220883680
Only with AI. Lynch said he was pro AI so get started on it.
>>
>>220883580
it becomes even more soap operay in the 2nd season.
Its a soap opera sprinkled with surreal
"lynch" scenes
>>
>>220883640

You admitted it, so i have no need to dignify that with a response.
>>
>>220883718
I am not post-modern enough to call it art thoughbeit.
>>
>>220883640
muh postmodernism
>>
>>220883674
Everyone's a bad actor in Twin Peaks, its intentional with the soap opera feel.
>>
>>220883680
Mark Frost is working on something supposedly, might be another book.
There's a bunch of stuff in the return that was 100% his ideas.
Including bob and judy being released during the atomic bomb.
>>
>>220883680
Without Lynch? Who'd possibly want that?
>>
>>220883580
its so good. i had no idea what it was gonna be like. binged it when I had the flu. heightened the experience desu

Season 01: semi-parody of nbc/abc/cbs primetime 80s soaps, murder mysteries, and police stories with slight surrealism.
Season 02: First half is the same with more surrealism and sci-fi/paranormal stuff. Second half adds more parody and comedy, ends with the most dark and surreal episode of television ever.
Movie: Drama and horror movie with surreal elements, very little comedy.
Season 3: Everything from before but amped up to 10.

Frost would write. I would direct. What are my credentials? I hate MCU movies.

>>
>>220884049
Season 3, Episode 3.
>>
>>220884049
Once the killer plotline in season 2 is over, it goes hard into bad comedy, if you hate james, you can skip over his entire plotline during that point because it has nothing to do with anything else, it's really worth watching for the last 2 episodes of the season.
The movie is extremely important as well, especially to the plot of season 3, I highly recommend the blue rose cut of the film instead of the theatrical, it adds 30 minutes from what was cut.

I recently watched it for the first time as well. It's a little tough to get through long seasons since everything these days is like 8 episodes

I watched at least the first season before and it seemed like a soap opera. I'm watching it again now and it's really batshit insane. I guess I'm paying more attention.
There are also so many characters and every person has their significant other and then the one they are cheating with.

bros... nobody told me that twin peaks was a moving picture on a screen!
>>
>>220883580
It's a mock Soap Opera because Soap Opera's were popular at the time. The second half (The Return) is a mock true crime show because they were popular at the time. Twin Peaks is about television (dreams)
>>
>>220883674
James is a /tv/ board
>>
>>220883580
It's a soap that makes fun of soaps. But sometimes it's just a soap.
Some lmao is the the main theme blasting out of nothing; the double lmao is that shitty main theme is taken seriously by soap lovers, and so it doubles as hilarious for who is on the joke.

Do you suggest skipping episodes 10-16 of season 2?
>>
>>220889919
no, they're bad in a good way
you need to focus and appreciate the journey
>>

I remember watching Wayne's World as a kid and thinking Wayne was retarded for ghosting her.

Don't skip them, They're not important, They're bad in an entertaining way, But they will make the finale more anticipatory and rewarding.
>>
>>220890080
This, you can't appreciate the payoff without taking the ride.
>>
>>220884751
you gotta watch the comaland miniseries cut
>>
>>220890061
Apparently they're horrendous, no involvement from the creators, and add nothing to the actual story.

Not true at all.
As a standalone I can see why others might not like it, but if you've seen the show it's an excellent addition.

Not sure if this is still the case, but like 10-15(?) years ago I used to always see an episode guide for this show posted in threads pretty much saying to skip most of the middle of season 2. Glad I didn't listen to it, or else I would have missed out of some of the best scenes like the Ben Horne civil war stuff.

it's kino and makes the payoff all the better for it

Lynch intended it to be a full paranormal mystery ride but studio execs (jews who put the money) insisted in adding (season 1) bits of a soap opera because that was what it had the highest ratings back then, Lynch opposed initially but ultimately cave in completely because season 1 ratings by the end were not so go, hence why we got a full on soap opera in season 2 and none of it 27 years later in season 3.

Yeah, that's the one. I hope you guys still don't consider this to be a good guide to the show.

>mad sketchy
Shows just how old this image is. Also, calling anything Lynch (or anything non-conventional for that matter) "mad sketchy" is such a normie thing to say to begin with.

Also a lot of the lore first gets introduced in that part of the show, specifically episode 11, if you are someone who appreciates that. I'm normally not but enjoyed the black lodge white lodge stuff.

>>
>>220883580
>You guys didn't tell me this was a soap opera...

That's the brilliance of Lynch though... He took the comfy primetime "Murder She Wrote" aesthetic you saw your grandma watching while she babysat you... and turned into something more weird, sinister, and avant-garde.
>>
>>220890192
I saw this guide during my first watch last year. The James arc in season 2 was seriously overblown. The only part I got tired of was the civil war shit, I got filtered hard by that.
>>
>>220890192
I just remember I hated the storyline with James and the femme fatale and the other one with the curly hair broad sexing the two geriatrics

this. there is a very noticeable quality drop, but no episode is skippable, none. maybe the scenes from james milf adventures but why would you skip a cool guy. you are watching tv / kino history, enjoy the warts too

I dunno, man. I like Twin Peaks best when it doesn't elaborate. Those scenes in season two, when Major Briggs and Hawk star to lore dump is when it becomes... less interesting. I know during that period neither Lynch nor Frost were that involved with the show and both tied up in other projects, and it was probably the skeleton crew of writers cannibalizing the shows bible, but I still kinda blame Frost for it. Because , for one, there's still some of that in season 3 and secondly, Frost's books are pretty much all that l.

It's just... derivative in a way that the stuff Lynch made on his own isn't. The terms "White Lodge" and "Black Lodge" are cribbed from Crowley's Moonchild, the Term "Dugpa" is from buddhism (Although Frost might know it from Helena Blavatsky), the Dweller on the Threshold is from C.G. Jung and let's not even get into that whole embarassing fucking dialogue in Season 3 where they go on about how Judy is a Chinese demon named Jiao Dae or something. Or Frost's books when he starts referencing Jack Parsons.

I do find all that stuff interesting, generally speaking, which is why I know where all of that's from. I studied western occultism a decent amount but it clashes with Lynch's way of just letting images be images and have their meaning be... intuitive. There's no one in Inland Empire relating the Rabbits to animal headed egyptian gods or in Mulholland Drive to theorize out loud that the Cowboy is a manifestation of a Jungian archetype as transformed by film. You can read them as those, if you're boring, but I'm pretty sure Lynch Lynch would have probably just shrugged if you told him about it.

I mean, I don't want to be a dick, I know without Nark Frost there wouldn't be a Twin Peaks at all but I genuinely feel that the series was as good as he was, mostly despite of him. And, mean as it sounds, really peaked with the one part he didn't have any direct involvement in, Fire Walk With Me.
>>
>>220891055
Fair take.

I see it like this:
Mark Frost is the world builder - he sets the stage.
David Lynch is the artist, he walks out onto the stage and explores the possibilities.
Together, they are much more than the sum of their parts.
>>
>>220883580
i told you.
it doesn't get better btw, only gets worse as seasons go on.

I can't believe its been ten years since s3. Its weird that I was probably at my happiest in the lead up to S3. I remember the long summer nights vibing to the music and shitposting on /tv/. Getting wasted and laughing my ass off watching Civil War Ben (Kino). I had friends and hope. Things were going to turn out okay. Then I think it was part 17/18 and some long running mental health shit hit me like a ton of bricks. Life took a irrecoverable nose dive. Destroyed 90% of my relationships and almost offed myself. So its weird looking back on a shkw that symbolises so much, good and bad to me. Sorry for blog post

Just wanna point out that Windom is 10/10 villain too

all the "hard" fluff is obviously mark frost. lynch spends almost zero time on lore shit unless he has an idea for an enigmatic scene. almost no exposition too, I can't think of any lynch work that had characters sit down and actually give hard exposition unless it's dune or something

No, hell no. There's a bit of camp, a bit of inexperience, and a lot of uncanniness but it adds to the absurd vibe. Majority of them are good actors and great for their roles.
James and the chink are straight up bad at acting, Catherine does okay sometimes and literally screams I'M ACTING, LOOK AT ME DOING THEATER in some scenes.
