It always feels lame when some small online community thing becomes monetized by youtubers. Its even worse when it becomes so big that that a corporation takes it to the mainstream. Must feel feel bad for the original community to see their project misunderstood, taken from them, bastardized, and then sold off without even getting any financial reward themselves for originally building and fostering the community around it.
