Jesus this board seems bitter as fuck lately
>>220894924are you saying that my favorite hack frauds from red letter media have never seen a single movie on their entire lifes?!! makes sense!
>>220894923Cool, and Charli D'Amelio hit 100 million TikTok followers when she was 16 doesn't mean that they're like creative geniuses. It's just a vanity metric. Doesn't make him Kubrick.

He's a very talented 3D artist/dicector simply from his output on his Youtube channel, and these are all made on basically a 0 dollar budget, just Blender and AfterEffectshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIGCjcAnKuMhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWNMsZ44oochttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcnSsT-9mXAThe backrooms is just the canvas via which he's shown off his skills but obviously they go beyond thatAll you ever needed was some cheap consumer-grade software and you could have made everything he did.
>>220894858He did not write the screenplay for the Backrooms movie. He also mainly had animation direction experience before this movie. Hollywood hired this guy purely based on his directorial vision, the most fundamental part of the creative side of filmmaking, and something 99% of currently active filmmakers (I'm talking about Hollywood professionals) cannot do and do not understand. Also something that most audiences (including YouTube flim critics) do not actively understand, they are (like all audiences, that's the point of it) only subconciously influenced by it.That they hired someone based on these qualities is something that almost never happens anymore despite it being the norm in the past and then being widely acknowledged as the most important aspect (together with the people-management part of film directing). I don't think Backrooms is particularly interesting (neither the concept nor the film), but this is a VERY positive direction for Hollywood.
>>220894982>>220894924Nobody is saying he's Kubrick and nobody is saying it's the deepest shit ever. Stop making up scenarios to complain about. But it's still impressive that a 20 year old made such a successful movie and if you can't understand that, then I don't know what to tell you.
>>220894923osgood perkins wrote all of it
>>220895062Oh, so nobody is praising him for his creative genius? Okay, cool. Sure, it's impressive he made a movie at 20.

>>220895184He got contacted at 16 with four major producers already attached. All the '20-year-old directing a Hollywood movie' hype is definetely a bit astroturfed. . That said, I didn’t hate the movie or his direction, I thought he did a pretty good job.

>>220895184I think his father has some connections. But he is also 20 which means he basicly had 3-4 years of free time while also still living at home for free during covid. A bunch of zoomers learned how to draw or 3d animate during that time and some got lucky like him.
>>220895286I mean, I also just think the producers had a smart vision with like, oh shit, this video is blowing up on youtube and can make a good horror film. His original backrooms, video has eighty million views, which is nothing to snuff at

I can't imagine how insecure and self hating I'd be if I built my entire life around something someone else came up with like that
>>220894858>Has he made anything else that was good?Kane has a cool name for a horror movie director and, more importantly, resuscitated the Backrooms story and made it his own. When Kane picked up the Backrooms it was nothing more than a failing zoom-zoom horror story. He was the one that made the videos which recontextualized the Backrooms as this creepy place that corporations send expeditions into and encounter fucked up things. To give it another example, it would be like if someone took the "Going Into Games Machine" meme, spent two years building an entire backstory for who got the Machine and why, and then making a movie about the Going Into Games Machine.
>>220896482>Being in a filmmaking day care center is success?Kane's story is one of the rare examples of nepotism done right. His father was a video game designer and his mother is a therapist. Hardly the sort of jobs that give you a highway to success. He started making videos at 14, kept correspondences with people in the industry through sending them his material, and eventually started self-publishing the Backrooms content after what I said here >>220896518 .What I guess I'm trying to do here is say that Kane is one of the cleanest success stories you could cheer for. This isn't some Mixtape style nepo baby scheme, he's a young man that laid the groundwork for the success he enjoys today.
>>220896570He didn’t write and had like 40 producers and 5 directors making the movie for him.

>>220898812It's not impressive because it's>cheap horror slop>meme tiktok crap>kid's part of the chosen tribe>ghost directed by James Wan, Shawn Levy and Osgood Perkins If he did something like Boogie Nights instead of horror crap that's cheap and easy to make, then it'd be impressive, but it's not

>effortly makes fat balding incels seethe
>>220899095the gen Xers and millennials who came up with the feature idea in the first place are the ones making the profits
I liked it.>bait into millennial therapy-slop>subvert expectationsWe got more of what the zoomer youtube audience wanted at the beginning, a fun Heart of Darkness spinoff, a connection to the labs running the exploration in the other media, and plenty of cool visuals with a real budget (the puppet was awesome, the cgi birds were terrible). The next step for Kane is to springboard off this into something of his own. Plenty of young artists spent their youth tracing established pieces of art (pic rel), the idea he would stop all this momentum when handed this opportunity and paycheck as Hollywood tries to connect to the younger audience is retarded.
>Makes movie based off copypasta>Everyone's acting like he's some creative genius

>>220894858I feel so bad for the anon who wrote the original backrooms post. Imagine having your idea stolen and turned into a blockbuster hollywood movie while you get zero credit for it.
>>220899042Mark Duplass has already vouched for Kane saying he was in full control on the set and of the actors including himself and that he came very well prepared to the point where he didn't need to mentor him which he thought was why they hired him in the first place because he's known for mentoring young filmmakers in the business.

>playing shooter game >random backrooms levelDunno if I liked that or not
>>220899239Mark Duplass is also a faggot
>>220899239*He had full control of crew of Hollywood veterans built around himWhat irritates me about the headlines is that they make it sound like he bootstrapped a movie with his friends and took #1 at the box office. guys didn't you know that if you don't write and produce a movie you direct, you're actually not worthy of incels' praise. pretty terrifying if you ask me
>>220899262Yeah, nobody's even talking about the movie which was fairly generic. Like, I don't really see what it's influence or cultural impact is going to be beyond " hey guys, they turn to youtube video into a successful blockbuster"

Rich in game lore to draw from, and the twist of a dual narrative set in the present day and the past as well as non-space opera sci-fi. The director and main cast were also coming off a very kino filmed version of Shakespeare's MacBeth so they certinly could do historically set stuff well, too. There was no way Assassin's Creed wasn't going to be great...And yet it was, and I speak as someone who is a huge fan of the games, a steaming pile of human shite, left on your doorstep in a paper bag that was on fire. No, worse than that, it was JOYLESS. A fucking chore to watch all the way to the end. I only managed it when my wife offered to suck my cock while we watched it because she was bored too and the popcorn had run out.

The plaprooms
Kane Parsons is autistic and his entire thing is building a real world and obsessing over details. His talent was that he was going to just make a detailed world that you can learn about. Those A24 people ruined him. Since he started talking with A24 people his work has degraded into ''fuck the details, fuck the lore'' and moving into abstract ''deep'' themes. The oldest view was made after he was already working on a draft of the movie and you can see how his philosophy has changed. It's a well made video but it's nonsense, it makes no sense in the universe and only can be interpreted as commentary on places that no longer exist and how the memory of the botanist who was celebrated gets distorted as he gets forgotten. I find this stuff incredibly lame and overdone. It's basically slapping the viewer in the face telling them to turn their brain off and just watch the pretty colors. The more these people try to be smart, the dumber you have to be to enjoy this stuff.
