he's solidly above average but not enough to put on the same level as guys like christian bale, heath ledger, denzel washingtonbesides donnie darko and brokeback mountain he doesn't really have any GREAT movies. He has a lot of GOOD movies like nightcrawler, source code, october sky, jarhead; even in stuff like end of watch or nocturnal animals he elevates what would ultimately be a pretty forgetful movie into something decent or even pretty good. Just needs one or two more huge hits. He's got one of the best floors out of any actor though - I've never seen a BAD gyllenhaal movie
