>>220908838that gay wad was popularized by zoomers and YouTubers
>>220908838no one heard of that shit until some tuber made a video about it sperging about how mysterious and "deep" it was. the whole point is that it "quietly went under the radar" for 30 years or whatever, when in reality, it was just that no one gave a shit until zoomers made it popular.

>>220908753Is that Wolfenstein 3D (1992)?Released by id Software in 1992, Wolfenstein 3D is the "grandfather of 3D shooters". It revolutionized PC gaming by pioneering fast-paced first-person combat, the shareware distribution model, and the iconic run-and-gun formula that laid the blueprint for the entire FPS (First-Person Shooter) genre.Pioneered the FPS Genre: It codified the basic gameplay loop of navigating maze-like levels, finding keys, and shooting enemies from a first-person perspective.Revolutionized 3D Graphics: Utilizing a raycasting engine, it introduced immersive, texture-mapped 3D environments that were unprecedented on home PCs at the time.Laid the Foundation for Doom: The technical success and fast-paced mechanics of Wolfenstein directly established the standard of action that id Software perfected the following year with Doom.

i find vast open indoor spaces to be unsettling, even if it's well-lit and obviously a vidya game.
>>220910945My first pc was a windows 95 one I got as a hand-me-down from my cousin with both that red brick screensaver and the free trial version of Wolfenstein 3D on it. It was sovl.

>>220908753>>220911971>>220912373>>220913526Ever notice that the world started going to shit coincidentally when these screensavers stopped being common?
>>220909803I wish we cpuld get a Blame! movie. It would be hours of walkong alone in a desolate post singularity empty doomed city planet. Parts of Twin Peaks The Return reminded me of it. That stop motion movie Junkhead did too. Pandorum reminded me a bit of Blame! and a bit of Metroid.

>>220917141Man, I had forgotten about this gem.>>220917305I only know it because it was the Comic Book Guy's screensaver in one of the classic episodes.
Millenial eldritch horror.
>>220908753there was a webm with audio that someone posted in gif a very long time ago where the took footage of someone (a cop or hoodrat) running up in a house and blasting black dudes and put Doom music and sound effects over it. if anyone has this i beg you to link me up.
>>220908753
>>220914009>>220914786Yes, Mario IS scary. Zoomer contrarians will never understand it because they have no frame of reference of a pre-Internet, pre-datamining, pre-AI world.

>>220917599>Doom musicNEDM
>>220914786>real dangerit's precisely because we lacked exposure to *real* danger that we find stupid fake virtual shit to be scary. also lack of guns/weapons training going on your first hunt as a kid, potentially getting attacked by a wild boar, puts things into perspective.

>>220908753OUTTA MY WAY ZOOMER FUCKING SHITS
>>220908753I wish the theme behind liminal space stuff was more about being stuck in this endless space with no food or resources. That's a lot more scary than being hunted by a spoopy monster.
>>220919243【* EAR SHATTERING FART NOISE *]
>>220919263>I wish liminal things were all retellings of 127 hours.

>>220917447This made Mycenaean boomers shit and piss and cum in their pants
>>220908833what is this from?
>>220919263It looks like this is where it will be headed if it gets franchised. Exploring the actual nature of the backrooms. It's probably going to be like Alien and Aliens though
>>220917455This just proves that zoomers and younger lack imagination. That lack of imagination of filling in the gaps in what you’re shown/told can make any place seem empty or spooky. Not everything has to be explainedEither the castle has been abandoned for safety/they were taken hostage because Peach was kidnapped or there are people still there and they’re hiding somewhere. How you see the castle in the game isn’t how the castle always was. That sign makes perfect sense
>>220919243I'm a zoomer and remember this THOUGH and I guarantee my score on Lunatic Fringe was higher than yoursMy grandfather got a CD full of pirated software from taiwan with every afterdark up to 3.2 on it
>>220908833>I make realistic screenshots >how? By telling an AI program to do everything>but I made it I'm the one that typed in the prompt!AIfags are such lolcows
>>220912373>>220911971The cheers when this little nibba perfectly hit the corner were always insane
>>220919118blessed post
Nonironically yes.The whole point of the original backrooms was to mimic what happens when games glitch. especially the older games
>>220920184No, not like that at all. I want a movie about a singular person who gets lost in a liminal space for a while and they explore for a bit and after a while they start to go hungry and they don't know what to do. It's much more existential than just being lost in the desert or something because there's absolutely no resources to use or a sense of day and night so you lose track of how long you're there. There's just empty hallways and corridors and eventually you get driven mad trying to search for a way out.
>>220908833wow this really triggered the artrannies kek

>>220916157for me it's the exteriors in this game
>>220908833didn't know they were so sensitive about verbs too
>>220908753I spent so much time on the old computers back in the day that I actually used to dream in 8-bit graphics in 3-bit colour, (that's only a choice of 8 colours to you fags, black, yellow, cyan, magenta, green, blue, red, and white).I'd be happy living in a VR environment like that just due to nostalgia. There's something so cool about bright primary colours like that. I actually hated the 16-bit era when the graphics got technically better, but they looked shaded and muddy, (while still being blocky but with an ugly 'rounded blockiness'. There was one of these 'shades of brown' eras back then because of it too.I just liked the pure green grass, deep blue water, and pure white ice, etc. Especially when it came to landscapes. Everything is so easily identifiable, bright, and 'pure' looking. Dreaming in that colour palette is a hella comfy. It's a wonder someone didn't come up with some kind of Backrooms type liminal shit back then considering how stark the scenes necessarily were just due to a lack of computing power. Also notice how many liminal images have a tendency to use strong primary colours and a limited palette. Like the original Backrooms yellow wallpaper is kinda leaning in that direction, or at least a more simplistic palette, like if you compress a jpg with enough lossy compression you'll wind up with very few different colours and shade variation.Picrel compressed to only use 11 colours and you can't see a lot of overall difference. Though the software I used used black to shade with stippling.

>>2209266694 and 16 colours have a similar feel, especially when something like a C64 is not using all available colours, but 8 colour has a particular quirk to it:https://youtu.be/WrOwZhzpNuk?t=109Beachhead BBC micro, (3-bit):https://youtu.be/WRPEf8IEZv0?t=141Beachhead C64 (4-bit):https://youtu.be/Ex9mchOPG1o?t=278At least the BBC Micro was effectively 3-bit colour since it had a quirky system for colour display that included 8 solid + 8 'flashing' colours, (solid red was different to flashing red). So technically 16 colour but effectively 8.The funny thing is, I barely played any games on it at all, just spent a lot of time programming shit, and was also exposed to true 16-colour systems, but in my dreams my brain would use 8-colour. Like I'd be walking along a yellow road surrounded by green grass beneath a cyan sky with a yellow sun and white clouds, come to a blue lake with white shimmer dots/lines, etc. There really is something comfy/liminal about oversimplified reality.Could be part of the appeal of Minecraft, though that has that brownish dull look I'm not a fan of, and I never actually played it before either. What I'm talking about is more an inversion of that when you have simplified colours but less blockiness.I got AI to make something like what I mean, but it cheated by making stipple grey and black outlining shit spoils the effect a little. But you get the idea.
