Same reason I don't tell you about the sorta ok burrito I had years ago.
The Crow was a 6/10 movie treated like a 10/10 due to:
1. Niche era vibe (Lost Boys skated on same)
2. Star dies on set.

a movie being rated 10 / 10 for vibe is literally the best reason to do so. fuck outta here.

Gothic: Directed by Alex Proyas, the film successfully adapted the atmospheric, comic-book art style of creator James O'Barr. Its sprawling, rain-soaked, and dystopian urban landscape directly influenced later superhero and comic-book films (e.g., Batman Begins).

Influential Aesthetic: The dark leather trench coat, pale face paint, and tragic rock-star aesthetic of the protagonist, Eric Draven, became a staple of 1990s counterculture, cosplay, and the goth scene

Iconic Soundtrack: The movie featured a definitive 90s alternative rock and industrial soundtrack, with tracks from bands like The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, and Stone Temple Pilots, which became a massive hit in its own right

>Him being invincible kills all the tension
They actually had a solution for this by they cut it.
There was a character of a skull cowboy who by all intents and purposes was an avatar of death.
He'd appear to Eric when he would try to save Sarah (the little girl) and remind him that he was not brought back from the dead to save lives but to take them in revenge. Basically the conundrum would be that if Eric tried to use his immortality to save someone except killing the gang, he'd lose it.
For some reason they cut it (it had nothing to do with Lee's death, it was cut way before) and replaced it with a crow being the avatar of his immortality.

>>
>>220910452
It's not even a good movie. The only reason people pretend to like the movie is because the guy died. That makes it seem really edgy, gives some imagined value to the character.
Without him dying the only real value the movie would have is that it's on film so it looks like a real movie with shadows and a lot of contrast. It looks good like 99% of movies from 30+ years ago

The 1990s were a golden era for the goth subculture,

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975): A foundational film for proto-goths, blending drag, Halloween-inspired cabaret, and tongue-in-cheek sexuality

Beetlejuice (1988): It introduced the world to Lydia Deetz, one of cinema's most iconic gothic teenage character

Edward Scissorhands (1990): Tim Burton’s quintessential tale of an isolated, leather-clad outsider showcases the heart of the gothic aesthetic.

The Addams Family (1991): The brilliant live-action adaptation of the iconic comic, celebrating all things macabre with unmatched, dark charm.

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992): Director Francis Ford Coppola delivers a visually stunning, romantic masterpiece featuring opulent Victorian and gothic costuming

Candyman (1992)
Atmospheric urban gothic horror that remains one of the decade's most haunting films.

Addams Family Values (1993): The peak of deadpan, gothic family comedy

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Darkly whimsical, romantic, and endlessly influential on goth aesthetics.

The Crow (1994): The ultimate goth cult-classic, this film pairs an industrial rock aesthetic with a tragic, rain-soaked tale of revenge

Interview with the Vampire (1994): Set in an eternal, brooding atmosphere (and partially in the dark streets of New Orleans), this Anne Rice adaptation is pure vampire elegance

The City of Lost Children (1995): This French sci-fi fantasy features a breathtakingly surreal, dark, and rusted, gloomy and alternate aesthetic that fits perfectly

>>
>>220913749

The Craft (1996): The definitive film for 90s goth style. This 90s staple follows a group of outcast teenage girls who practice witchcraft, defining goth-adjacent teen fashion for a generation.

Dark City (1998): A neo-noir sci-fi thriller featuring an eternal-night setting and towering, gothic architecture.

Blade (1998): Heavy on latex, fetish club vibes, and industrial techno, this comic adaptation is a defining late-90s action-goth entry

Sleepy Hollow (1999): Tim Burton’s gloomy, fog-filled take on the Washington Irving classic is a visual treat of haunted woods and eerie period details

The Matrix (1999): Brought sleek, leather-clad industrial-goth fashion to the mainstream.Dark City (1998): A neo-noir sci-fi thriller featuring an eternal-night setting and towering, gothic architecture.

Donnie Darko (2001)
The film is classified as a classic example of Suburban Gothic

How come films from the 90s were so BLUE? Why did they take the blue away, was it lost?

Underworld films did it too.

Huh. Either way the idea is retarded and the footage makes it even clearer. I'm glad they cut it. That said, the footage has some really cool Resident Evil-esque angles that I liked.

I don't associate Crow 1 with excessive blue per se

To me this >>220910452 is the OG color scheme. Blacks, reds and whites
>>
>>220915663
Yes, it’s starkly that color palette, and I have every reason to believe that was symbolic of the good/evil/ vengeance core of the story.

Good times to be alive watching movies as a kid, but sadly i grew up in a rural place with a very small highschool and there wasnt exactly groups of girls adopting The Craft aesthtic, even in the closest cities they were uncommon and i remember goth dudes getting spat at.

City of Angels is a visually stylish movie but with a nonsensical garbage story, Salvation was my favorite Crow movie as a kid but watching it now, it's pretty bad. Wicked Prayer is so awful that it's only worth watching if you're going to make fun of it with friends while drunk/stoned. Haven't seen the 2024 reboot but I hear it's awful.
Frankly the only Crow content really worth watching aside from the 1994 film is the fun cheesy tv show Stairway to Heaven where they turn The Crow into Walker Texas Ranger constantly roundhouse kicking people

It was heartbreaking the guy dying so young with the talent he had and the potential of what was to come with cgi and comic book franchises, he probably would have ended up being cast as neo and had a fucking stellar career. Ernie Hudson's chats about his last times with him are so sad.

Problem with goth was theyre all bi sexual. The girls and guys fucked and sucked eachother. The scene was disgusting smelly ugly people mainly.

As in all the hot girls werent goths like the larpers we have now. The hot girls were all like clueless stacies. There were no hot goth girls as it was a loser group for ugly loner losers. No good looking people were goths. The whole scene was full of ugly social rejects.

goth was a subculture mostly focussed on aesthetics. I have no idea why theres this big idea that true goth girls are somehow the holy(lol) grail
>>
>>220917760
Every single subculture has its own aesthetic look. Goth was all about being depressed, melancholly, self harm, drugs, bi sex, bi orgies pegging femdom etc. Thats it. Garbage culture.

The 2025 remake was so dogshit
>>
>>220914165
It was made specifically for late 2010s sad boy subculture, basically if you weren't a fan of like Lil Peep you probably won't be able appreciate it for what it is.
For a more in depth review;
The action is pretty good, it's cool seeing Eric get shot up, best parts of it are on the trailer though.
They take their time with the romance between Eric and Shelly, but it's young people drug fueled romance, so again, probably won't appeal to most people. Also they got a mouthbreather for Shelly and it's fucking distracting.
Villain isn't as cool but he does his job, and hits close to home now that we know the elites are in fact, satanic occultists.
>>
>>220910452
Except the lead actress is fucking terrible

Other than that, yes very kino indeed
>>
>>220921283
who even is the "lead actress"? the kid?
>>
>>220921348
Yes. She is horrible. Takes me out of the film every time she delivers a line.
>>
Same with the soundtrack. Also look up the crime it was based on.
