I prefer the TV versions of Tywin and Tyrion up to that point but I also think that Tyrion should have died or been written out after killing Tywin.I also think that Cersei and Jaime should be the bastard rapebabbies of the mad king and for that to be revealed later to make Tywin and Tyrion's arc even more of a Shakespearean tragedy, it would also give better precedent for Cersei's ascension to power and hers and Jaime's themes.The timeline makes these things impossible though and GRRM doesn't think out his character arcs very well, characters just go places and do things.

The Targ parallels are just an additional detail for Jaime/Cersei that touch on other plot areas. Assuming the books are headed in the show direction it would mean that the Iron Throne is always connected to the Targ bloodline, with Cersei being a Targ and then Bran being a shell warged by Bloodraven. Also touches on virtually every character of every generation in this series being cuckspawn, a central theme to the series. GRRM hates patrilineal legacy
