where does Curve (2016) fit into the verse?

I enjoyed this movie but then I read the directors commentary and thought he was a faggot.
Otherwise yeah it pretty much was Gen Z's Cube.

Cube 3 was actually the one for millennials
>>
>>220919606
It's nearly a dark comedy that spits on the original premise.

The mystery of what the cube was is part of the horror.
Is it some billionaire club's sick escape room?
Was it a result of soulless and blind corporate bureaucracy manifesting a death trap out of pure emergence like the guy states in the film? Is it aliens or some unironic liminal space dimensional shit?
To answer any of these straight up wouldn't be good enough, the question left unanswered drives it home.

The second one may have almost spilled the beans by having the protagonist wake up in a pool of water to then be shot some some glow nigger, but the third one straight up explains "It's evil billionaire illuminati watching torture porn and people watching torture porn". It's dogshit.

This movie sucks
>>
>>220919413
Not really a retcon, just an origin story for the math autist in the first movie.
And I did like the idea of the outside observer watching it happen.
And things were left vague enough with the phone calls from mystery nigger.
I don't think its a great movie, but its definitely the best of the sequels.
>>
>>220921018
For a no-budget direct to video board-of-canada sci-fi horror movie, its much better than it should have been.
Its also got some creative film making to repurpose the one set over and over while still managing to keep it feeling like they're not making any progress or movement.
Part of me thinks it should have been like a 45 minute short film, or added 1 or 2 more people, just to add another kill.
>>
>>220921067
>an origin story for the math autist in the first movie.
Do you know what an autistic savant is?
The point of the first film is all the people have a skill or some form of information to escaping the cube EXCEPT for the negro cop who seemed specifically placed in there to fuck up the group with his leadership complex.

The guy was literally just The Rain Man, retconning it so that he was possibly (it's not the same character as Cube Zero's protag) was member of the Cube organizations team but lobotomized is completely retarded.
Like nigger, you can't surgically give someone autism, I don't care if the Cube Zero guy was already a math genius.
>>

Cube 2: Hypercube won over a zoomer friend group of mine. Fear the tesseract.
>>
>>220921170
They should have actually shown what he saw when he stepped outside. Leaving something so open ended there is possibility that it was meaningless feels like no pay off and really cheap. It doesn't have to explain everything but for all we know he just stepped into the bathroom
>>
>>220918590
it was great but then they showed the black guy go mental and kill everyone, i'm glad we don't have such outdated attitudes anymore
>>
>>220921311
I had some hopes for it going in because i thought hypercube was a clever way to escalate things, and it was fun to remember forever knight was a thing.
But they just dump any kind of clever solution to anything, an when they write themselves into a corner the simulation just breaks down, and the movie is over.

>Negro Cop
Red Herring, his leadership role misleads the group and inhibits them from solving the puzzle.
>Savant sperg
Factorization calculation skill crucial to solving the Cube
>Office Cuck
Knows the dimensions of the cube shell, allowing a rough hypothetical mapping of the cube.
>Clinic Doctor
Medic clearly there to increase survival chance/ Trap damage mitigation.
>Escape Artist
They need a guy who knows how to scale the puzzle for retards that don't know how to climb.
>Math Student
Tard Wrangler for the Savant to make use of his skill, who also contributes to the room number puzzle.
>Bald guy who dies in the beginning
Probably an intentionally low IQ low impulse control guy that would likely die to a trap to show the others traps exist.
>>
>>220921356
Accurate description
>>
>>220921529
The bald guy in the beginning was the last survivor from the previous group.
I guess its been a few years since I've watched it because I genuinely only remember worst dax, black cop, doctor lady, and the retard. Guess its going on the list for the spooktober movie marathon this year.
Its one of those movies where by the time I re-watch it I realize I forgot a whole lot of the movie, so it feels interesting.
Sort of like how I always get surprised by Chris Evans showing up in sunshine. Its like that piece of knowledge that squirts out of my brain as soon as I remember.
>>
>>220921603
>Was the last survivor of the previous group
According to what?
>>
>>220921628
The fact that hes just there apropos of nothing to set the tone and stakes before showing the credits, and opening with the characters you follow for the rest of the movie.
>>
>>220921652
He could have just woken up before them? I doubt a guy who managed to survive would die like a retard like that.
>>
>>220918590
over-rated "under the radar cult classic" movie. It was worth a watch if your bored and randomly come across it late at night alone by yourself, but its nothing as special as you nerds on the internet make it seem. You all always find some "under the radar" type movie and then amp it up like its the coolest most bad ass movie ever because you like to think it makes you unique or special or something? You are literally all hipsters but call yourself autistic. SAD!
>>
>>220921691
He doesn't necessarily need to be smart, he just needs to not be the first guy into each trap-room.
Its not a hill I'm going to die on, just the opening sequence an the credits creates a like a temporal split between that and the first act.
>>
>>220918590

It is a tip of the b-movies that punch above their weight iceburg I guess. And on a technical level its a great example of using a shoe string budget, one set, and a bunch of literal who's to make a movie thats far more entertaining than you would expect.
Sort of like Ponypool (which I don't see anyone ever bring up).
Pic relate is Mr. Stitch, a very weird frankenstein adaptation starring Will Wheaton and Ruthger Hauer.
And yeah, its always hard to recommend something because you don't want to set anyone's expectations too high.
But pic related is just weird enough, and it has a really unsettling twist on the frankenstein's monster.
The makeup is also really wild.

He stepped into your bathroom and saw your dad taking a shower and joined him.
>>
>>220921333
IDK man, I can't disagree with you more, what I like most about the movie is just how few answers it gives you. You learn the rule of the game, and all they can do is go forward, or stay there and starve.
Like when they're all arguing about what the place is, and the guy chimes in saying it doesn't matter, and there might not be a reason, just some project that was authorized, compartmentalized, and forgotten about by anyone in charge.
>>
>>220922158
>I've been upstairs. There's no one in charge!
I have been saying this line whenever I get the opportunity for years now.

backrooms is really just giving a name to an old concept

I used to have dreams all the time back in the 90s that were basically the backrooms

only thing /x/ really did was give it a name and that specific aesthetic of yellow walls which honestly I thought sucked compared to the things I imagined back in the day which were more science fictiony like the Cube
>>
>>220918590
>>220922244

>labyrinthine dreams
mine are always me being lost in a car driving on a clusterfuck of nonsensical criss-crossing highways that are suspended on ludicrously high bridges in the sky, for some reason
>>
>>220922406
Whenever I finish a long drive/road trip, when I finally go to bed that night I will have stress dreams where I'm driving my car and I'm freaking out because I'm someplace I shouldn't be with it, an I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get my car out.
Like in a stairwell, and then I feel like I can't see anything and I feel like I'm being pushed against the window and the control to the car go out. (I think this is because your body is still in sleep paralysis so your body is sending back signals that you're not sitting in a car seat, but somehow laying flat out, or however you sleep).
