You ever watch a movie like this, enjoy it, and then when you're looking up reviews / comment sections online afterwards to read the discussion you realise that the main allegory went over your head completely?Like with this one it's meant to be an allegory for the Irish civil war. The same war that is literally happening on the mainland in the movie and referenced several times. I thought the movie was about a man who didn't like his friend no more. All the stuff about cutting fingers off and burning down houses etc was all allegorical for 'cutting off your nose to spite your face' but watching at the time I was just like yeah haha these are things happening in the film I'm enjoying this film! I think I may actually be a retard.
