The process used to be
>get a decent story
>producer backs it
>get some decent actors
>film it
>show it
>everyone makes money based on how good it is

Now
>choose any existing popular story, preferably that already has an established audience
>cut away anything original as the producer demands it
>choose any combination of actors that always have a minority man, a white woman, a minority woman, regardless of talent
>film it
>run 15 test screenings to make sure you have the biggest possible market appeal (as in: any retard can follow the plot)
>cut anything that might be challenging
>producers sell the movie making their money back regardless of outcome, as this kind of slop is produced on an industrial scale

I just read it as cheesy 90's movies that have more than a few 90's tropes to them and IF they somehow managed to get oscar nominated it was for its score or sound mixing or some shit. Basically something like Cliffhanger, which few people probably know got nominated for 3 oscars in Best Sound , Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Visual Effects (it got brutally owned by Jurassic Park that year rip). It also got 4 nominations at the razzies, Worst Picture, Worst Supporting Actor (John Lithgow), Worst Supporting Actress (Janine Turner) and Worst Screenplay and has a like 6.5 on imdb. It did make it into the top 10 highest grossing films of 93 so its well known and loved, but i think its a perfect fit.

I'm currently reading the novel and I have nearly finished it without actually enjoying any of it. It isn't so bad that I put it down and it reads and progresses quickly but none of it has really interested me.

I love how the dog randomly pops up alive at the end of the movie after being under freezing water for ~15 minutes.

Here's a good one for you. Christopher Lambert and Mario Von Peebles in a 90s action B movie where they're trying to steal money from a bunch of coke dealers in central America. With circa 1993 Jean Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart as the crazy lead coke dealer.

Oh yeah, it also has Dennis Leary in it as a mercenary. Fun cast, for whatever reason they decided to market it as a black film even though the cast has more spics and whites in it.
