Abridging a series to keep it consistent for a long term project should require some good writing chops. Regardless of how much time they have to play with, at some point they will have to abridge the source material, or deal with conflicts brought on by the reality of filming, or even the knock on effects of a poorly thought out ad lib.

I haven't heard anything about lesbians with progeria being in HP. There's one non-canonical black guy.
Funny thing is that as long as the story is good and the characters are well played, kids don't tend to pick up on stuff like that unless people in their home are making a big deal over it.
The problem is that a lot of times those characters are used as a soapbox to talk about whatever issues the writers are thinking about which kids *will* pick up on. Getting preached at is not entertaining. Lessons can be taught through entertainment, but it's best if it's embedded in the entertainment instead of superseding it.
If they can manage to make the show fun and avoid overt preaching, I think kids will be into it with or without black Snape.

Pansy appears regularly in the books. Not as often as Grabbe and Goyle, but she does hang out with them. She is a bit arrogant and quite self-secure, sometimes with an air of smugness. Her big moment comes in the last volume, in one of the later chapters where she wisely suggests giving Harry up to Voldemort to spare the school and many many lives.
Her role is massively reduced in the films. Which is why I said I'm excited to see what they do with her in the series, considering that it will have more time to cover more of the books.
Of her actresses, there's particularly one who really captured the spirit of the character, namely Genevieve Gaunt, who sadly was recast. And, yes, she was cute and I found her attractive (I was barely any older than her back then). She still is (now in her mid-30s).
So excuse me when I look at the new actress and think she has the potential to do great in the role, while also looking cute. And, yes, I'm quite aware that she's not "legal" right now and it's not "appropriate" to consider anything like that. And I actually don't, believe it or not. But, again, thatwhole taboo is a bit silly. As I've said, she's past puberty already and the few changes that remain will be gradual over the next few years. It's not as if there'll be one exact cutoff point for such things like you love to pretend. You remember the countdowns back in the day for Emma Watson's 18th birthday? That was morons like you.

They omitted a lot of things even from the very first book. The most frequent complaint being Peeves (which I personally couldn't give a fuck about). Frankly, what I always found disappointing about the ghosts is that they basically wrote out the house ghosts after the first two films, even though they had cast John Cleese as one of them.
Anyway, the point is, they did omit a lot, and I have no problem with that, given the massive time constraints. But the new series can now really use this fact to differentiate itself and create a niche in which it justifies its existence.

In all likelihood it won't be cancelled. They're banking on this being a huge success which is all but 100% guaranteed. That said, despite the investment in the school and general production, I can't imagine them keeping it on life support for a decade if it's a massive failure. There's a certain point where if they lose enough money and it doesn't seem promising that they'll ever make it back, they would cut their losses and take the tax break.
