Is earnest film-making dead? Did Whedon, Lord & Miller, and Gunn successfully kill adaptations that take themselves seriously forever?
>>

This movie looks pretty good in the trailers. I wouldn’t let some random reviewer’s opinion bother me, he was trying to compliment the movie anyway. Reddity types still open their mouths really wide for meta entertainment and probably always will. They like wink and nod crap, it makes them feel smart.
>>

Did you see the Skeletor clip? It's outright a parody
>>
>>220926019
No. I don't watch "clips". That's for redditors and the French.
>>
>>220926019
No. I saw one trailer several times over the course of a single baseball game. That’s it.

That doesn't mean anything. Kong: Skull Island had a great trailer and that movie sucked.

They're not paid exclusively to post, it's just another task added to their misery without a pay increase.
This happens every time a new movie is released. Threads like this one will be posted every day for the week leading up to the movie and then, nothing. No discussion of the film. Just accusatory OP questions like, "Why did you guys let this movie fail?" and the filenames of the OP post are always a telltale sign of a shill lazily copy and pasting a script.
>>
>>220928259
>"JUST TURN YOUR BRAIN OFF AND ENJOY!"
Seriously, people who unironically say this need to be ridiculed. That means your film is meant for retarded people. Nobody needed to turn their brain "off" for the original Star Wars trilogy, or for The Neverending Story, or E.T., or The Goonies, etc, etc, etc. If your brain needs to be "off", you're consuming GOYSLOP, and if your brain even has an "off", you're an NPC, and did you even remember to turn your brain back ON afterwards?

Do you want your sons to comply with HR mandates of putting their pronouns on their name tags? Yes or no. This was in the trailer, how much more hand holding do you require?

Furthermore, how many shows start out harmless enough them ramp up the faggotry in sequels/next season? How'd that Joker sequel work out for its fans? How'd The Boys go after season one?

Man up, buy a nice 4k home theater, and play the classics for them instead. Let them watch the original Jurassic Park or something. Avoid the goyslop.

I think the problem of this movie and all movies like this is that it was based on a cartoon for children with primary goal to sell physical toys. These movies, on the other hand, are made for 30+ yo millenials who suppose to eat the nostalgia bait and that's literally the sole target audience and sole marketing strategy. If they would make a normal children's' action film it would be a lot more successful and marketable, but everyone in the Hollywood is a nepo hack with no competence or even basic skills, not even talking about the talent at all here
>>
>>220930224
it was silly in a serious way.

look at this shit. they keep "hanging the lantern" on it. it's made for the marvel audience.

>>
>>220930487
this is the most AI generated CGI I've ever seen, very hard to believe it is a multi-million dollar budget product. holy shit we unironically live in dark ages of media. it's like they are purposely trying to avoid hiring anyone with talent. it's so souless and mediocre

So is it worth watching or not? There's one screening left in two hours. I need to turn my brain off and distract myself real bad right now, so I'm willing to lower my standards and consume just about any shitty flick right now, so long as it's not dreadfully boring.
>>
>>220929564
Well put. The saturation of "the reddit/marvel formula" with so many movies is a very real concern regarding quality of the product and the capabilities of its designers. When every adaptation, every movie, and every franchise reflects the same template lazily repeated, with the same lazy excuses and dismissals repeated in defense of slop, then it should be no surprise that the criticism will be scathing.
>>
>>220930604
>I need to turn my brain off and distract myself real bad right now
You pitiful little NPC. You cry so hard you NEED goyslop in your life. What an absolute loser.
>>
>>220930631
>"the reddit/marvel formula"
>the same template lazily repeated
yup. I tried to give the MCU a chance, but it was SO fucking poorly written and just utterly lazy. Watching Banner literally nerdgasm over Stark's lab and tech toys only to then say how he's "ALWAYS" angry despite the film literally demonstrating the opposite, the laziest hack in all of filmdom with "Jarvis, invent time travel", and things like Starlord in GOTG2 throwing himself at every woman yet suddenly having massive one-itis for Gamora when it's plot-relevant is just absolute slop-tier filmmaking where you literally need your brain "off" to forget what you just saw earlier in the same fucking film. They can contradict themselves all they want to because they count on the idiocy of their own audience. God, Marvel-slop really wrecked the normies expectations of what good cinema should be.
>>
>>220930487
I see what you mean. All the moments of pausing and basically looking at the viewer and going "hey, we're aware of how silly this is!" in stead of just letting it happen.
>>
>>220930224
Oh so it HAS to be, but only according to an arbitrary criteria that magically a priori invalidates any critique of the product.
People can still criticize lazy writing without comparing the source material (which totally wasn't toned down for the kiddies) to the movie presented.
>>
>>220930414
That's still trash.
>>
>>220930870
I never said it HAS to be. I just stated that it was a silly show to begin with so it shouldn't be a surprise when a follow up on the same property is also silly you pedantic retard.
>>
>>220930604
You want to watch a shitty movie but don't want to be bored? Good luck with that.
To answer your question, no. Not worth it.
I was a member of a test audience and the majority of us were, and still are, unimpressed.
>>
>>220928761
let me help you out, it's bad for them to watch unless you're a redditor father
>>
>>220930737
To add to this, studios are not learning from their mistakes. Whenever a production does not do well, no accountability is taken publicly. The failure becomes a tax write-off for the studio and the movie made for the ever ambiguous "modern audience" that failed to entertain get another coat of paint and released again but with a false "this time it WILL wirk" confidence behind it. Also what is with the lack of interest being blamed on the general public who didn't want to see something instead of the product itself? Whenever I see that it's amusing yet frustrating.
>>
>>220930919
>I never said it HAS to be
You implied it enough to warrant my response you pedantic retard.
>>
>>220925909
>Gunn
I would say that Superman was, in large part, fairly sincere, which was nice to see.
>>
>>220925909
Parts of it were sincere, most of it was irony poisoned. I wouldn't mind it for a few gags but half the fucking movie is going "uhh, that's weird huh?".

>>220926019
Skeletor was the best part by far.
>>
>>220926397
Brie was so damn hot.
>>
It actually hurts to see those clips. The amount of budget that they burned on what's essentially a big joke. Tapping you on the shoulder every scene, "look how silly this whole thing is."
Fucking imagine if they used the same money on an earnest film. I know MOTU is for kids or former kids who are now boomers or whatever. Fuck it. Imagine if they gave that money to someone who wanted to make an honest story with real heroes and villains and a mythological feel, something that took itself seriously. Something that Milius would have directed. Archetypical. Honest.
Fantasy movies are so goddamn expensive and that's why they don't get made. Wasting this studio budget on a big ha-ha-how silly genre parody, dripping with meek Woody Allen type self-awareness is a tragedy. Just make a real fantasy movie, please. I'll go see it.
>>
>>220926484

>>hero is expected to be the hero, but his ass always gets saved by "le strong, always right, female side character"
Thankfully that stopped by the time Adam used the sword. But her character somehow got worse after that. Before she was tomboy childhood friend, after she's friendzone sidekick that isn't even that strong.
>>
>>220931101
It certainly wasn't. It felt like cynical parody of Superman movie.
>>
>>220931624

>>self-parody
did the original works try to portray things in a serious tone? no? they were campy and ridiculous? then i doubt that this is a "parody".
>>
>>220934151
It's possible to fuck up camp and just come off as parody or just stupid. Look at Schumacher's Batman movies
>>
>>220929564
while you're mostly right, what they mean is that you need to enter into it with the right expectations. if you go in expecting thought provoking storytelling and deep insights into the human condition, you're going to be disappointed and have a bad time. but if you go in expecting whiz-bang-boom, you get what you paid for.

the part that you get wrong is that some people simply enjoy the spectacle of fireworks. being a pretentious autist and decrying fireworks because "wheres the value? why doesnt it challenge me? wheres the depth?" is wrong because you're bringing that criticism to the wrong genre. not all film fits that. some of it is just spectacle, like fireworks, and some people enjoy it for what it is, while finding cerebral stuff elsewhere.
>>
>>220928259
explain how the originals werent like this.
>>
>>220934211
ok, like, old bond is campy, and austin powers is a parody. but also, a lot of old bond is pretty fucking stupid. i dont think that theres a line between campy and stupid, as much as there is a venn diagram overlap.
>>
>>220926431
>A must see for any human being looking to have a good time
If that doesn't perfectly encapsulate how and who movies are made for now
>>
>>220925909

>>220934314
the originals were like this, too? no wonder fags love it.
