Tubi is the only streaming service I use anymore because it's the only one with a lot of films made before 2010. The last good new movie was Nightcrawler in 2014 (and it's spiritual successor Velvet Buzzsaw in 2019 but that was straight to Netflix)
I can't even remember the last time Netflix recommended an old movie. Wtf is the even the point of other streaming services when Tubi is chock full of all the best movies of the last 40 years, like every single one.

The "movie night" section on Tubi is kino after kino nonstop and you can scroll for days without running out.

Remember shit like "The Rookie" (Dennis Quaid baseball kino)
And Second Hand Lions? It's got all that shit for FREE. It's honestly too good To be true. I'm sure the Jews will ruin it soon

The Rip was actually fine. I mean, it's this typical bullshit action movie with a lot of plot holes and exposition, but it's fine to enjoy over a beer.

He's right, most movies these days suck and I'd rather read a book or watch YotuTube cinemasins of old movies, which are a lot more entertaining.

He also said the 50s and 80s are the worst decades for film until....right now in the 2020s which are worse than either.
I used to question his thoughts on the 80s but I checked my Letterboxd and all the 80s movies I like are unknown or like...Terminator (which was an unknown when made).
Most of the big budget non-genre focused films on the decade I often despise. I recently watched "The Hunger" vampire lesbian movie with David Bowie made by Tony Scott of Top Gun fame.

It was genuinely one of the worst shot movies I've ever seen. The cinematography was so bad it distracted me from the film over and over again which it's absurdly stupid stylistic choices.

>>
>>220930270
They kept doing this thing where they were drawing paralells between the vampire lady and Susan Sarandon by showing one woman and then the other, switching every few seconds. A classic technique and fine usually but in this shit they were switching back and forth for what felt like well over a minute at a time and they probably did the exact same trick 10 - 15 times in the 1.5 hours film. It was nonstop and only got more stupid and annoying the more they did it.

Me and my friend watching with me had to stop the film several times to laugh at how awful it was

>I loved going to the movies. These days, however, the concept of what is a movie is more inclined to inspire contempt in me than generosity. Which is fair enough, because by comparison the movies of the last six years make the ‘80s seem like the ‘30s. I’ve seen movies I’ve liked since then — “West Side Story (2021); “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 & 2,” a few others, but nothing that really held me in its grip, and swept me away fo to the magical land of enjoyment that I used to visit and was the reason why I loved movies above all artforms. These days I’d rather read a book.

>However, a new movie has now come out that did grab me and held me for its entire duration: Joe Carnahan’s “The RIP,” starring the dynamic duo of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The film is an exciting cop thriller with a novel premise that manages to deliver the goods in really clever ways. The whole package worked for me: Carnahan’s direction, the splendid cast, the look of the film (courtesy of cinematographer Juan Miguel Azpiroz)-but the real powerhouse component of this splendid collection is the sensational screenplay by Carnahan and Michael McGrale.

Tarantino doesn't have any actual opinions or values, he's a cultural VJ that takes from the television he watched in the 60's and 70's. All of his "takes" are deliberately inflammatory because he knows he doesn't actually have any artistic taste, but if he frames it as a publicity stunt, it will obscure who he really is and that he has no personality oustside of some ADHD spaz that did nothing but watch TV as a kid. He also premptively moved to Israel and put down roots, so he did something fucked up that he wants to dodge by living in "Don't mention our pedophiles and rapists or you're a racist" land.

It’s weird. It’s almost like his attempt a western-flavored Pulp Fiction, where you have all these characters and separate story threads, but they never intersect. His last movie (Hollywood) wrapped up production around the time Weinstein got sentenced.
He never did any more movies after that point and relocated to Israel (a non-extradition country).
Lately he started to sound very bitter and talking shit.

I'm guessing he did some depraved shit himself but it got hushed up and he's scared it might come to light if he starts another project. Likely accusers will start to multiply. No way this dude wasn't perving around Hollywood in his prime.
And even if somehow he didn't (unlikely) it doesn't matter because even an accusation is enough to bury him in the press.

So basically he got cucked out of the industry by Weinstein going down.

>The people who hate modern movies rarely have watched a meaningful amount of them, nor do they know what there is to watch
Dude, I'm constantly looking for excuses to get out of the house, and frequently the only movies out are horrortrash and capeshit. There are just reams and reams of horror shit all year round.

I checking the movies available near me today.
>Backrooms
horrortrash
>Star Wars
no need to rehash this item.
>obsession
horrortrash
>The Breadwinner
Apparently its about some standup comedian my parents like. They tell me the movie is full of rehashed jokes they already heard. I skimmed a camrip, and the visual style isn't terribly compelling. To be fair, the visual style usually isn't compelling in a shakespearean stageplay, or many John Wayne movies or Star Trek TOS episodes, which are basically stageplays as well, but it didn't look appealing to me, and if my parent who are more easily amused than I am think the movie was merely okay, I'm not gonna waste my time or money on seeing it in theaters. However the fact I spent this long examining it, betrays that it's the most appealing item on the list so far.
>Michael.
I was vaguely excited for it, but when I scrubbed the camrip, it didn't look terribly compelling. Some other anon said it's a great experience seeing it in a crowded theater full of excitement, but miserable to watch on your own.
>Devil Wears Prada 2
most appealing item on the list (grim), but I vaguely remember hearing it wasn't good. I may have scrubbed it and come to a similar conclusion, but I don't remember or care very much.
>The Sheep Detectives
EVEN MORE APPEALING. I scrubbed the camrip. It's stylistically similar to Knives Out, and there's talking sheep. something about a will. possibly a murder mystery. Again, it doesn't actually look good. By 2008 standards it's shit, but by today's standards, it's elevated to "probably okay". A few days after I looked at it, some youtuber on my homepage praised it as "LE EARNEST."

I feel the same honestly. Hollywood has abandoned authors and stars in favor for shallow reductive IP milking. I can´t say i care for it. Some streaming platforms produce some author movies but most of them suffer the same fate of big budget flicks as they address the same themes and comply with the same production requirements.

Personally i blame social media. What point is there to authors if they can´t have creative control or if they are going to self censor to avoid being burned at the stake?

I was one of those teenage/early 20's filmbros that was obsessed with Tarantino but as I got older I started to realize his movies are a bit overrated and pretentious.
I don't think they're bad or anything, they just don't belong on greatest films lists.
I think Tarantino's obsession with having the perfect filmography has soured me on him even more than his zionist politics.

What exactly is he expecting or wanting out of cinema? What films are earning his ire? Is it just old man ranting or does he have a point he's trying to make by pissing off everyone n the industry he self-exiled from once the #metoo shit took off.

Like if movies are such fucking shit now, why doesn't he just bite the bullet and come up with some television series and pitch it to HBO or something cooked up with Rodriguez or whatever. Like, he gets to keep his autistic 10 movie shit in tact if he were to do that. Otherwise, he's just going to end up alienating himself from the industry for no specified reason. However, if its clearer to him than everyone else that Hollywood is dead, then there's probably nothing wrong pissing all over a sinking ship.

What's his fucking deal as of late?
>>

Why tf would other people's movies being shit matter to his own interest in making a movie. If anything that means he would be more invested than ever in making a new movie so he can mog everyone else with something actually good. Where do you come up with this nonsense?

Video games have been crap since 2007 (Uncharted).
They are just interactive TV shows for women now. At least the AAA ones. They have no challenge or fail states, you just ride a horse from one cutscene to another. The only challenge they present is can you stay awake long enough to make it to the end.

Indies are just as shit but for different reasons - they're all trying to imitate japanese console games from 30 years ago but they don't have the budgets or the dev talent to pull it off.

I've been chewing through indie grindhouse and b-movies from the 60s (almost all pirated). Low budget schlock from that era is far more entertaining than the overly slick but ultimately empty films we've tended to get in the last 5 years. That's not to say that ALL modern films suck, but it's harder to find good ones these days. I also don't know if maybe I'm somehow missing something, but I've found a lot of films that seem to be heavily lauded by fans and critics alike sorely lacking. There were some nice visual moments in Del Toro's Frankenstein, Marty Supreme, and Bugonia, but I found all three of those films to be ultimately disappointing.
