Just left the cinema and i have to say that if you like historical films, then this De Gaulle film is for you.
It's the first part of his story, second part comes the 3rd July 2026.
It's way better than Napoleon from Joaquin Phoenix (which is an insult to the great man).

In this movie you'll see the struggle of De Gaulle, how he managed to impose himself as the head of Free France and the perfidy of Roosevelt.
Also the kino battle of Bir Hakeim where French soldiers (3723 men) managed to hold 45 000 germans and italians to let the British army flee Tobruk and avoid total defeat against germany.
The movie has action and battles so don't worry it's not boring, 2h 40m of pure kino and there's the part 2 incoming.
This movie doesn't treat the man like crap and doesn't idolize him too much either.

>de Gaulle played by Simon Abkarian
>Born in Gonesse, Val d'Oise, of Armenian descent, Abkarian spent his childhood in Lebanon. He moved to Los Angeles, where he joined an Armenian theater company managed by Gerald Papazian.

Quintessentially French

i don't think the movie is about the story of the actor though.

Britain's most annoying thorn in the foot.
also thanks to him, France is the only post-war european nation that became independant from the USA thanks to its nuclear program (military and civilian) that De Gaulle launched, same for its army, space program (Ariane, ESA), economy, etc... and no US military bases in any of the French territories.

>no US military base
Are you sure?

probably they had to find someone tall who looked like him physically and Jean Dujardin wouldn't have been good enough.
and Charles De Gaulle son (Admiral Phillipe De Gaulle) looked like him but he died at 102 in 2024.
