Execs don't understand that being true to the continuity doesn't mean the show itself has to be built in a way where it's really a continuity heavy show. It's no different from a show having a really exhaustive show bible. You can have a show bible the size of a small cow and write a show that's extremely episodic. The continuity can just be a nice big toolbox with lots of tools for storytelling. For a stargate example, you could make part of the show about the Jaffa ruling over regular humans now that the goauld are gone. You don't actually need to know jack shit about all the old sg1 episodes about the goauld or even the Jaffa. The audience just needs to be able to understand the dynamic at play and a child can understand the warrior caste butting heads with the plebs. Or a story about how the stargate program was leaked on the internet and has been kicking around conspiracy circles for so long it's a relatively mainstream belief. You don't need to know the ins and outs of every single SG1 episode and have a deep understanding of everything that's been hidden from the public. You just have to understand the current dynamic moving forward. The conflict is about the unfolding situation, to disclose or not to disclose, the glowies suppressing things and hackermans trying to leak the truth, the conflict really isn't dependent on the audience having some deep knowledge of the lore at all. Again it's just a toolbox for the writers to draw on. I have not doubt the Amazon series really was trying to be a soft reboot to let new viewers in and it was just the suits being complete fucking morons.
