Rewatched it recently after almost 15 years or so and it was much better than I expected. Just pure fun galore. I remember not liking the second movie, so I methinks I'll just jump to the third movie for the weekend.
Was a great watch in theaters, the sun going down and the whole theater seeming flooded with absolute darkness by contrast to the blazing sun was effectively done.

I rewatched all three movies recently and pitch black still holds up the best imo. I still like the other 2 movies a lot but I think they fell into the 'chosen one' hole and it made riddick a bit less appealing to me. First movie has a neat setting, unique creatures, good cast (claudia black is so wasted in this movie but it's not like there's any room for her character in the story desu), decent dialogue, and solid story where the characters' roles are flipped in some way as the sun goes down.Second movie has a good variety of locations, fun action and one-liners, and necromongers are cool. Makes for a huge departure from the more grounded familiar look of technology in the first movie and I kinda love that. Third movie has god awful dialogue compared to the other two, but some really fun bits especially the beginning with riddick reconnecting with his more primal survivalist side and adapting to the new world he's on. I didn't find the johns plotline to be really compelling desu idk, I think I was just put off by the dialogue so much that I found it all to be boring. Riddick is crafty and fun to watch in this one at least.
