4 > 2 > 3 > 5 > 7 > 1 > 6 > 8
4 is an instant classic, one of the best episodes of anything I’ve seen in recent memory. These rankings are based on one binge session last night and really just a pretense to say that 4 was good.
>>
>>220951411
Best show on TV by a wide margin. Lets hope S2 can keep up the quality and it doesn't go Severence S2 of the writers disappearing up their own arses.

>>220951581
The Enya sequence alone made the last episode good. There was a lot of satire that ep

>the people in the gas station just watching her set up the trap
>everyone he attacked being people that decided to help the creepy guy with a knife.
>it kept showing her running at full pelt which and the guy catching up with her just walking
>>
>>220951581
4 is definitely great.
After rewatching them though I've started to appreciate the episodes that show the bustling town more.
3 > 2 > 4 > 1 > 8 > 5 > 7 > 6

3 was the most balanced episode for me in terms of spooky stuff, character development, and plot. Lots of stuff happening like Tom meeting Marissa, encountering the hag, having the inaugural swim, etc. More of the unique settings too with the beach and our only glimpse so far of the Driftwood Diner.
I wanted so bad for Tom to have a romance with Marissa, she seemed perfect for him.
The worst episodes are the ones that are too confined in terms of location or narrative.
>>
So, I'm guessing the next episode will have the sea monster?
>>
>>220952177
Don't know if there's a preview or anything saying it but there's been lots more hints of spooky things in the town than they have enough episodes this season to cover (plus lots of characters who haven't had episodes covering them) .

>An American TV show that jokes lets the humour land by itself, doesn't care if you miss it or not and doesn't feel the need to explain why it's funny

Been a long time since there's been an American show with good dry humour that isn't "this is quirky, isn't being quirky funny?"

>the kind of sacred iconography you don't just riff
>>
>>220953961
agreed. Comfy show. It's spooky but doesn't go into grimdark territory and doesn't get all that violent. Only thing that bothers me is when they're having a serious moment then for no reason have to force some joke right in the middle of it. Let the serious stuff settle in.
>>
>>220954067
You can't tell me the build up to the joke in the Sea hag backstory wasn't funny as hell.
>>
>>220954128
that was the punchline, though.
I'm talking about a moment like when Tom is talking to Richard about the town's curse then Patty quickly opens the door because she forgot her purse. Then it's back to the serious discussion. Wasn't necessary.
but honestly it's such a minor complaint because everything else about the show is great
>>
>>220954015
God, I hope he comes back.

>>220952890
>Things are actually happening? Questions are being answered? Be still my heart

>neurotic 40-something who looks attainable but would actually have ridiculously high standards and wonder why she can't ever find a man
much more common than you think
>>
>>220954210
I get what you mean, that example in particular felt jarring, but sometimes it works. The funniest part of that episode to me was Warren dropping his old timey serious schtick to have a “fuck you” back and forth with Tom on the boat. It felt a little out of character for this man out of time to suddenly speak so casually and modern but it got the biggest laugh of the episode for sure.
>>
>>220952987
It's one of the rare actual femcel representations in media. She'd be way too hot and young in any normal show or movie.

that guy is a pretty well known comedian and one of my friend's never shuts the fuck up about him. his comedy is hit or miss to me though. his story about getting invited to a Super Bowl party with Dane Cook and Bill Burr there was pretty funny though. he ended up basically having to sit on Burr's lap on the couch and was freaking everyone out

i can't pick a favorite because i love episodes 2-5 equally much and the rest less than those but still a lot and also equally much. but i think like all tv shows, the early episodes benefited greatly from us not knowing quite what the fuck is going on yet and that kind of intrigue always makes a thing more interesting and enjoyable.

They should make a video game with the town layout faithfully recreated.
Alan Wake was sort of like that exactly, especially later on with the town segments.
Actually the first Alan Wake game (original, not remastered) is probably the best companion piece to this series.
Everything down to the main town, Bright falls church, primordial supernatural entity hidden under the the cauldra.
Both were Lovecraft/King/Twin Peaks inspired.

>It's one of the rare actual femcel representations in media

Absolutely is because so much about her nails not just being a bit autistic or weird, but its almost all a distinctly female style of it. A male loser would never get really noticeably mad and upset about that thing where she's told the guy in the coma can't hear her and she wasn't helping. That's very femininely neurotic and autistic. Female autists tend not to just give up on social ambitions or a desire to generally fit and be valued in the wider group nearly as easily, because women are socialized to value those things more on a more conscious level. Their autists tend to try much harder and get closer to the mark which makes them all the more frustrated when they still don't quite hit it and don't make much progress.

There's enough information to map out the interior of most of the main buildings too.
It's nice to see when they actually use a real building to shoot the scenes not just a prop set, and you can tell usually when you try to map it out.

The Salty Whale is interesting because the main entrance is upstairs, and the exterior shot is probably the real exterior because all the details match. You even see the muntins of the street-facing window from inside when Tom is trying to stop patrons from leaving in episode 1, and Rosemary walking up towards the main entrance in episode 4 after her smoke break.

Also The Salty Whale interior is interesting too. Knowing which direction the entrance is you can work out which direction the kitchen backalley door is.

Not really, go back to the /tv/ archives on 4plebs for November 2022 to February 2023.
There were like only two or three long threads on release. Then a massive lull between November 2022 and March 2023 since most people hadn't gotten around to watching it yet.
I made like five or so threads on Wednesday in February 2023 after I witnessed kino and was trying to get people to discuss the layout of Nevermore Academy and town of Jericho, and then I stopped making them when it was clear most people hadn't see it yet. Then after March 2023 snoodposting took over.

I hope Emergency Shelter isn't just inside The Salty Whale's basement, though it seems that's where it's going to take place since we've already been shown it below ground.
I was hoping for a dedicated storm shelter maybe by the old hospital or the asylum or even town hall or whatever.
Also seeing the real buildings that made up the exterior shots of the buildings in the show are a little depressing, don't look them up haha

Current Widow's Bay Mayor, Tom Loftis

HELLO FROM THE MAYOR

As Mayor, I'd like to personally invite you to enjoy all the beauty of Widow's Bay Island. Whether you want to get a tan and take a dip in our fine waters, or just enjoy the festivities, please join us at Widow's Beach on July 1st to see our Mayor take the inaugural swim to the buoy and back.

The beach is just a stone's throw from the Town Square, so you can enjoy some dining, shopping and romantic walks while you are here. Be sure [to] learn more about our island's rich and eccentric history at The Historical Society and the Richard Warren House. And while you are here, visit our historic lighthouse. We are so glad you are here!

OUR HISTORY

ISLAND FOUNDER
RICHARD WARREN

In 1681, Richard Warren was a merchant Pilgrim, a Puritan seeking a new community. There was a wicked storm at sea and the ship sank, leaving Richard to swim to the nearest shore, which became Widow's Bay Island. He was determined to make this undiscovered land his own, and he formed a settlement where Widow's Bay Township now stands proud and lasting.

With [his] first wife who died under mysterious circumstances (some say by Richard Warren's hand), Warren had seven seven [sic] children. In 1701, he married a 25 year old woman who traveled from Boston for the engagement, named Sarah. When a madness plague affected the island in 1702, Sarah attempted to leave the island with the children, but they sickened at sea and died.

Thanks to trade ships in the 1700s, after the plague, the township was rebuilt and thriving by the mid 1750s. There were setbacks, with rumors of strange and deadly fog, aggressive sea creatures [, and] other anomalies that threatened the well-being of the citizens of Widow's Bay. When you visit the Historical Society, you can see firsthand accounts and period articles and photos of some of the phenomena that envelopes the lore of the island. And, when you stay at Breakwater Inn, be sure to be on the lookout for ghosts and other hauntings!

Although no know[n] living relatives remain on the island, the Richard Warren Museum preserves the legacy of our island's founding father and family. Usually open by appointment, the museum does have holiday hours, so be sure to check in and see items from the Warren homestead, some as early as the late 1600s belonging to Richard's children and wife.

THE NEW YORK TIMES BUSINESS MONDAY REVIEW

TRAVEL

New England's Best Kept Secret
By ARTHUR LLOYD

Don't look for a Starbucks here. We have harkened back to a different time. A lack of modern amenities can feel unnerving at first. But after taking in the sparkling views and salty breezes, feeling so far from the mainland was a feeling most welcomed.

For this traveler, a weekend was certainly not long enough to enjoy and unwind on this time-capsule, historic island location. Although the ferry ride is long - 3 plus hours - and the journey might be a bit choppy with waves and storms and come [sic] from nowhere on the ride from Boston to the main dock of Widow's Bay Township, there was plenty of blue sky, sea life (dolphins!) and seagulls to make the journey interesting. This is also an ideal journey to work on your summer reading list, which invariably gets shorter every year. The ferry arrived on a Friday mid-morning without fanfare. A low-level hum blankets the island - some of the locals say if you listen, you can hear the island whispering to you. A lack of modern amenities can feel unnerving at first. But after taking in the sparkling views and salty breezes, feeling o far from the mainland was a feeling most welcome. I didn't miss having cell phone service at all.

Widow's Bay is the next Martha's Vineyard. Fill up on french toast and fresh maple syrup at the Driftwood Diner as locals proudly tell you rich stories about the island's founding father. My stay was nearly idyllic with the only sour note being my interactions with the Mayor, who is working too hard to sell up an already Edenic island.

Colorful History and Folklore

Although there are not many shops or restaurants, the few in town are plenty, and the locals have stories aplenty too. There is a Historical Society Museum with lots of strange and often unbelievable "history" to consider, as well as the Richard Warren House Museum, the home of the founder of Widow's Bay, who is still revered today.

From floods, to plagues, and other supernatural calamities, Widow's Bay has seen it all, and most of it borders on the unsettling. You can hear more about it when you visit the Historical Society - be sure to ask for Gerrie. She is a bastion of local knowledge, and is quite an interesting person herself. However at no time during my stay did I encounter a haunting.

Inaugural swim (episode 3) took place on Wednesday, July 1st at 1pm according to the calendar.
The travel writer arrived Friday mid-morning according to the article >>220962415 and stayed for the weekend, probably leaving Sunday afternoon. This was probably the previous weekend so episode 1 probably took place Friday, June 26th.
The article >>220962415 then was published Monday, June 29th, which is when episode 2 takes place. Tom stays the night at Breakwater Inn.
The sunset cocktails during episode 4 takes place on the same day as episode 3, so Wednesday, July 1st at 7pm at The Salty Whale. They discover the reverend on the same night.

We don't exactly know when episode 5 is but the service for the reverend takes place. However it's doubtful they'd leave the reverend's study for so long and it looks like Wyck and Patricia spent the night poring over it so it should be Thursday, July 2nd. Tom takes the shrooms.

Tom gets a call at 8:30pm at the beginning of episode 7 and they tell him he's been asleep for a day, so it's probably the evening of Friday, July 3rd. They do away with Richard Warren the same night.

Episode 8 takes place the morning after making it Saturday, July 4th (Independence Day).

Summary:
Episode 1 - Friday, June 26th
Episode 2 - Monday, June 29th
Episode 3 - Wednesday, July 1st
Episode 4 - Wednesday, July 1st
Episode 5 - Thursday, July 2nd
Episode 7 - Friday, July 3rd

Tom first meets Marissa on the morning of Wednesday, July 1st. She's on the island for a bachelorette party.
Patricia calls Tom presumably shortly after 7pm from The Salty Whale to ask why he's not at sunset cocktails.
At this time it's likely that Tom is with Marissa at the Driftwood Diner.
We see members of the bachelorette party arrive at The Salty Whale shortly after Patricia's call.
Tom goes home. Marissa pays a house visit. We never see Marissa at sunset cocktails so it's likely she didn't attend along with some others in the taxicab. This is the evening of Wednesday, July 1st.
Bachelorette destination parties are rarely just a day, especially for a place as remote as Widow's Bay where the ferry ride alone is 3 hours. Also they arrived in the middle of the week just prior to the Independence Day weekend.
Therefore it's not unlikely to assume that they'd be staying for the weekend as well, having planned a week-long trip.
Since it's Independence Day on episode 8, it's not unfair to assume that Marissa and the bachelorettes are still on the island.
If the storm arrives Sunday, July 5th, then they might also be trapped on the island.

Why do you faggots want to ruin a good thing
>>
You are retarded if you think there wont be a season 2. I don't want it but it's the way they set this up. The remaining mysteries are too big to solve in just two, 30 minutes episodes.
>>
>>220968730
nigga the word of mouth for this show is crazy. it is getting a season 2
>>
>>220967363
It's better that way
Every time some show I liked got a second season it turned into absolute shit

there really aren't that many mysteries left. The only major one is the underground cave with the bloody chair and whatever is locked in the shelter. And why people born on the island can't ever leave or they'll die. Maybe they're related issues.
>>
>>220968783
You just need to resolve the ancient pact shit, that's it
>>
>>220967573
Patricia has that Olive Oyl build
>>
Patricia just needs to have sex. It would resolve a lot of her issues.
>>
>>220968813
It depends on if they wanted a season 2 while making it though. They could wrap up this story with a nice bow in the finale to make it so stupid to have another season. A monster of the week could work for multiple seasons for some shows but not on a tiny ass island. It would get old fast

The actress (Kate O'Flynn) has amazing physicality.
She could easily do mocap. Gonna try to cap that part of her running from the fire.

I want more of these characters, but I don't think a season 2 would work at all.
Like as soon as the curse is lifted, Tom would gtfo of there with Evan asap, assuming neither of them sacrifice themselves to break the curse.
And Tom's only mayor in the first place because it's his roundabout way of trying to protect Evan by fixing up the island and to make it something more than a prison.
Also they already killed the founder and unearthed the details of the pact. I think the remaining mysteries can easily be resolved in two episodes.
And if they don't manage to lift it then it's a downer ending.

I'm wondering about whether Frances Warren will play any part in the plot though or if she was just there to indicate that the Warren line remains, because I was thinking earlier how she might be the eponymous widow.

But I did read somewhere that the show creator said that the ending would be open-ended which leaves the possibility of a second season.

The cause of the terror never being fully resolved is another trope they’ll play off of but there won’t be a S2

Watching movies and cuddling with Patricia.

Rewatching the first episode.
Rosemary's colour-blindness is definitely coming back to the story somehow.
>>
>>220970677
She’d be weird and have some quirk where she doesn’t like movies and only watches old game shows from the 70s
>>
>>220970791
I’m curious how it would. I don’t even remember seeing her since Patricia’s party. I’m assuming one of the next episodes will be on the water again
>>
>>220970912
It just doesn't sound like something they'd throw out there without a payoff.
>>
>>220969962
The writing on this bit was great.

>oh she lied about being in the murder house, that explains her attitude to her
>... she is still a bitch though
>... Yeah that was deserved

All in the space of about 20 seconds
